Abstract

Theology holds an important role in the life of a nation, culturally, politically and economically. What kind of theology needs to be developed and will better serve the Indonesian society which is multicultural and religiously pluralistic? This article will be focusing on this issue while proposing some ideas on the importance of developing a constructive theology. Constructive theology is an alternative with emphasis on employing a theological method which starts from the real situation of the Indonesian society nowadays, where life, personalty and socially, has been underestimated, dishonored and even destroyed. A constructive theology would help the reorientation of one's mind set, point of view as well as our way of communicating and proceeding to be more inclusive, open and insightful for living our faith.

Budhisme mengundang setiap pengikutnya untuk ikut menghentikankesengsaraan melalui jalan pencerahan. Dalam tradisi Budhisme pencerahantidak dapat tercapai hanya dengan tindakan baik yang biasa. Pencerahanmengandaikan kesempurnaan tindakan baik ( Parami or Paramita). Abstract

The story of Judith seems less convenient for Scripture readers today. Judith, an ordinary Israeli widow, uses her beauty to establish herself in the camp of the Assyrian army. She deceives and lies to them. She then puts the commander of the Assyrian army into her deadly trap and kills him in his total unconsciousness. Should we call those heroic deeds? Does Judith deserve to be called a heroine? Moreover, despite the fact that Judiths courage is praised, there are some verses in the book of Judith which are oppressive to women, including to Judith herself. These verses emphasize the negative attitudes held by the Israelite society toward women.

Abstract

Mertons thought on Christians involvement in human issues is the result of hisstruggle in living spiritual life. At first, as a young monk he thought that in orderto meet God someone must break away from all sorts of problems that occur insociety. However, in subsequent developments, he discovered that when peoplewalked toward God through contemplation, where he had to detach his false selfand then discover his inner self, he will find that in his inner self a person is notonly in unity with God, but also with his fellowmen. Thus contemplation is a seaof love where person is in unity with God and his fellowman. Contemplation is adynamic experience of loving God animating a fraternal and peaceful life.

Abstract

Jesus was sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate. Although he found no guilt in Jesus, he decided to give Jesus over to the Jewish leaders who sought his death. Pilate, a Roman Judge, has thrown away the truth he believed and sentenced Jesus. On the other hand, the Jewish leader has thrown away their deepest conviction that God alone is their only King! They made themselves sons of Caesar, slaves of a Roman Imperator. Who is the winner in the trial before Pilate? It is not Pilate, nor the Jewish leaders. It is Jesus who keeps his strong conviction that God alone has power over him. He is God's Son, King of the Jews.

Abstract

Manusia secara fundamental merindukan Allah, yang mengatasi segala-galanya yang ada di dalam dunia. Ia tidak pernah dapat menjangkau Allah, tetapi Allah mendekati dia. Dengan demikian, Allah masuk ke dalam sejarah manusia dan menjadi bagian dari padanya. Allah mendapat suatu ekspresi insani, baik dalam rumusan firman-Nya naupun dalam kisah penampakan-Nya. Dan rumus serta gambaran itu tidak jarang menjadi objek iman sendiri. Dengan demikian terjadilah pluralisme agama dan pluralisme paham Allah. Dan, itu hanya dapat diterima kalau mengakui semua agama, termasuk agamanya sendiri, sebagai historis-relatif. Di dalamnya terwujud relasi dengan Allah yang absolut. Akan tetapi, tidak dapat disangkal ketergantungan pada tradisi dan kebudayaan, juga dalam penghayatan iman itu sendiri. Maka, yang penting sebetulnya bukan paham Allah, tetapi pemahaman akan relasi Allah dengan manusia. Relasi itu bukanlah sesuatu yang historis melulu, melainkan menyangkut hubungan penciptaan. Manusia, diciptakan menuju Allah, merupakan keterbukaan total bagi Allah. Dan, dalam keterarahan total kepada misteri ilahi, manusia dapat menjumpai Allah dalam situasi yang konkret.
