Savonius windmill is a kind of vertical axis windmill which is potential used to capture the energy from the wind. This research’s objective is to investigate about the dimension effects on the performance of the Savonius windmill models with modified curves and blades configuration. All of the models were made in two stages which each stage have two blades. Six dimension variations of windmill models has been made and investigated in range from 0.432 m2 to 0.552 m2. This research was conducted in a wind tunnel at wind speed range between 4 m/s to 7 m/s. The results showed that there were effects of the dimension of windmill on its performance. The lowest value of peak power coefficient is produced by a windmill model 92 cm of rotor,s diameter and 60 cm in height, that is about 0.31 at tip speed ratio 1.08.  The highest one is produced by windmill model 60 cm of rotor,s diameter and 92 cm in height, that is about 0.49 at tip speed ratio 1.18.

PT. XYZ is a company engaged in manufacturing of sanitary ware products. Various obstacles are faced by PT. XYZ in the course of its production, one of which is the problem of the quality of products produced from every production process. Based on historical data from July 2014 – June 2015, the percentage of defect for C models squat toilets reached 20.26%. The company wants the upper limit of defects products only reached 12% for each period of production. Based on previous research, there are two dominant types of defects are cracked/broken and uneven color. Therefore needed improvement through analysis of quality control approach FMEA method and ANOVA. The result of FMEA for cracked/broken defects obtained failure mode is the temperature and duration of combustion products are not appropriate (RPN numbers amounted to 648) and for uneven color obtained failure mode is glazed improper composition (RPN numbers of 576). This study also will provide corrective suggestions through the design of experiments by ANOVA method. The results of the experiment with the design of interaction factor ANOVA showed that long combustion products, glazed composition and temperature of the combustion products provide a significant effect on the amount of product defects

Paper industry produces paper rolls called jumbo rolls using paper machines. The paper rolls are then cut into rolls with different widths. The widths of rolls are determined by the customers’ demands and the different number of ordered rolls so that it is necessary to have an organization of cutting pattern from a jumbo into small rolls. The organization of cutting pattern aims to minimize the number of jumbo rolls used and rest of cutting. This research implements a column generation method to solve the problem. The column generation method is one of the linear programming techniques for the problem of supplies cutting. The iteration of column generation method uses revised simplex and knapsack problem with the completion of branch-and-bound method. If a solution is not an integer, the solution is converted into the integer using the first-fit decreasing method. Then, a display program with MATLAB is made based on the column generation algorithm. In this program, the solution may be in form of the number of rolls or the weight of rolls.Numerical examples are then carried out to show the effectiveness of the method. Based on the result of the simulation, the optimal solution is obtained, namely the minimum number of jumbo rolls and rest for several incoming order cases. In comparison to the manual calculation commonly practiced by paper industry, the results are well fitted. However, for big problems our approach is better because manual calculation is almost impossible to be done due to the expanding number of possible cutting pattern combinations.

Woven sacks made of plastic are used by various businesses. One of these business sectors that use plastic woven sacks is rice refining company. During this time, the quality of the resulting plastic woven products is still low and inconsistent. The Company experienced many problems with product defects caused by the production process. This is demonstrated by the large number of plastic woven sacks is not elastic, cannot withstand the load and tear. Troubleshooting for plastic woven products can be solved by QFD as a tool for identifying the need for good production process and connecting them with technical characteristics. The main focus of this method is to engage customers and experts in the product development process. Results of QFD would be used to improve product design. The results of this study indicate that the thread rolling process is a major cause of problems.

The performance of research and publications was an important measure of the academic reputation in higher education institution. A leading private university in Jakarta had poor performance in research and publications. This research showed that the cause was the lack of good data management mechanism of research and publication. Therefore, it could not give a good report. This research has created a conceptual model of data management research and publications by utilizing information system database. It would produce reports that required by both internal and external stakeholders.

Corrugating process is the process in making carton box which is  merging the top sheet of kraft paper (top liner), wave paper (paper medium) and kraft paper bottom (bottom liner) using glue. Output of corrugating process is corrugated sheet. The parameter of quality corrugated sheet is bursting strength. In the corrugating process, the value of bursting strength is influenced two factors: the speed and temperature of corrugator. In this study, we discuss the experiment to determine level of corrugator speed and temperature that can produce the maximum bursting strength. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) is used to design of experiment and analysis. RSM able to identify points outside the experimental area (order model I) and determine the point of maximum response with the method of steepest ascent, and may explain the relationship of quantitative independent variable responses (order model II). The result of this study is that optimum levels engine speed is 178 m / min and level temperature of 174.9 ° C. The optimum level of value response bursting strength of 13.8 kgf /mm2.
