Abstract

Worm infections or can be called by worming included into an infection caused by a parasite. Soil Transmitted Helminths Intestinal Nematodes are worms groups are in their life cycle to reach the infective stage requires soil with certain conditions. Eosin 2% is the dye that is used in the examination of Intestinal Nematode worm eggs. Red fruit (Pandanus sp.) which is a natural plant material and acidic contain carotenoids which produces orange-red pigment. Beta carotene is the predominant pigment of red-orange color that is found naturally in plants and fruits. The aim of this research is to determine the best concentration from variation of red fruit (Pandanus sp.) juice that optimally to color the eggs of the worm. Research conducted experiments with various concentration ratio of red fruit (Pandanus sp.) juice and distilled water (1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, 1:5). From this research it found that the results indicate the ratio of concentrations of red fruit (Pandanus sp.) juice and distilled water (1:2) can be used as an alternative reagent eosin 2% for their examination of worm eggs. But in the visual field that uses red fruit (Pandanus sp.) juice and distilled water (1:2) still looks much dirt as a nuisance and does not give a contrasting background. It can conclude that red fruit (Pandanus sp.) juice can use to color the eggs of the worm.

Abstract

Tofu is one of processed soybeans that have a high nutritional value and low price. Levels of protein in tofu can be enhanced by enzymatically. One of the protease enzyme which is commonly used in the food industry is bromelain enzyme. The bromelain enzyme in pineapple is widely available. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the bromelain enzyme from pineapple juice to protein content by examining the enzyme concentration and incubation time to get the best protein content. This research was quation experiment. The experimental design for this research was randomized block design with 2 factors. Factor I consist of 4 levels (enzyme concentration 35%, 40%, 45% and 50%) and factor II consist of 2 levels (incubation period with enzyme of 6 and 12 hours). The data obtained were then analyzed statistically by multiple linear regression test. The results showed that the best protein content was obtained from the preparation of tofu with the addition of bromelin enzyme from pineapple juice with concentration of 50% and with the incubation time for 12 hours, that is 16,6195%. Statistical test results obtained value of p <0.05, so it can be concluded that there were a relationship/correlation between the enzyme concentration and incubation time to the protein content. Based on the results of research can be suggested that bromelin enzyme from pineapple juice can be used to increase protein content in tofu.

Abstract

Colorectal cancer is one of the five type of highest insiden in Indonesia. One of development cancer therapeutics directed to combination of chemotherapeutic agent and chemopreventive compounds. One approach to finding a chemopreventive compounds is through the exploration of natural ingredient especialy herbs. Flavonoids is group of compounds from plants that have been widely studied as anti-cancer activity. Leave of pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan) is, kind of Legumes plants rich in flavonoids among others cajanol, quercetin, luteolin, apigenin formonentin, vitexin, orientin, biochanin A, pinostrobin, dan isorhamnetin. This study aims to determine the content of chemical compounds in the methanol extract of leave pigeon pea that has anticancer activity using WiDr colorectal cancer cells with MTT (3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazolyl-2)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) method, followed by flowcytometry test. The result of the cytotoxicity test of methanol extract of pigeonpea leaves have IC50 of 307 ug/ml and with flowcytometry method showed necrosis WiDr cell.

Abstract

Alfa mangostin, gamma-mangostin and xanthone group compounds are secondary metabolites contained in mangosteen (G. mangostana L.) which can be isolated from the fruit, bark, leaves and rind of mangosteen. All three compounds were shown to inhibit stronger against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Alfa mangostin also active against Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus bacteria that are resistant to vancomisin and methicillin. Objective of this study to determine the antibacterial activity of methanol extract of mangosteen rind against Staphyllococcus aureus and Escherechia coli in vitro. Antibacterial activity test used is the diffusion wells and paper disc diffusion method. The test results obtained antibacterial activity of methanol extract of mangosteen rind can inhibit the growth of Staphyllococcus aureus at a concentration of 16%, but below its resistance zone diameter Cyprofloxacin. As against Escherichia coli, the methanol extract of mangosteen rind could not inhibit the growth of bacteria.

Abstract

Abstract

Chicken meat is a good source of protein for daily consumption. It is very easy decayed biologically by enzymes or microbial spoilage. White galangal (Alpinia galanga Linn Swartz) is a kind of spice crop that can live in the highlands and lowlands. Generally, people utilize white galangal as a blend of seasoning. Galangal’s role as a food preservative is inseparable from its anti-microbial activity and secondary metabolite contents, i.e. essential oils. The anti-microbial is a biological or chemical compounds that could interfere the growth and activity of microbes, particularly microbes as a food spoilage. This research goal is to determine the number of bacteria in chicken meat with the provision granting the white grated galangal rhizome (Alpinia galanga Linn Swartz). This was a descriptive study with laboratory testing. We use pour plate method for the bacteria number determination. Independent variables is the indwelling time with grated white galangal for 1-5 hours and the dependent variable is the number of bacteria in chicken meat. The result showed that total number of bacteria after smeared with white grated galangal rhizome for 1 hour 463.500 CFU/gr, 2 hour 130.250 CFU/gr, 3 hour 58.250 CFU/gr, 4 hour 142.500 CFU/gr and 5 hour 302.500 CFU/gr. This study showed that grated white galangal has proven to reduce the number of bacteria in chicken meat.
