Abstract

                                               AbstractThis research entitled “Gangguan Emosi dan Perilaku pada Gilly Hopkins dalam The Great Gilly Hopkins karya Katherine Paterson” is intended to fulfill a requirement to accomplish the ”Sarjana” degree at Faculty of Humanities, Sam Ratulangi University, Manado. It aims at determining emotional and behavioral disorders of the main character, Gilly Hopkins. Gilly was lacking of social skills, could not adjust her emotion, and misbehaved in her social environment. Those personality traits made bad impacts on other people in her surroundings who interacted with her. This study used the theory of emotional and behavioral disorder by Daniel Hallahan and James Kauffman (1988), and employed descriptive method in analyzing the data from the novel. The results show that the main character, Gilly Hopkins has emotional and behavioral disorders by showing her characteristics, such as fighting and beating, teasing and disturbing, shouting, disobeying commands, vandalising, being impolite, being arrogant, being hyperactive, being easily angry or feeling offended, and being a liar. The factor which triggered emotional and behavioral disorders in Gilly is family factors. It gave bad impacts on her surroundings, such as making other people felt dejected, uncomfortable, angry, sad, and involving them into a debate and her bad deeds like stealing. ----------------------------------------------------- Keyword: Emotional and Behavioral Disorder (EBD), Novel The Great Gilly Hopkins.

Abstract

                                                ABSTARCT          The study entitled Illocutionary Acts in the Novel The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. In doing this research the writer used Searle’s theory (1970). According to Searle, illocutionary is a part of speech act and speech act is the center of Pragmatics. Illocutionary act menas uttering a certain sentence with a certain sense and references. Serale devided ilocutionary act into five categories, namely assertives, directives, commissive, ekspressive and declarative. The purpose of this research is to identify, clasify and analyze the function of illocutionary act in the novel The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. The collected data have been indentified to the utterancess with contain illocutionary act that are used by the characters in the novel and analyze descriptively based on Searle’s theory. The result shows that there are five kinds of illocutionary act in the novel. Those are asserives, directives, commissives, ekpressives and declaratives. The function of illocutionary act in the novel are suggesting, stating, greeting, aplogizing, thanking and declaration. It is expected that the study can help the readers especially the student in learning pragmatics specifically illocutionary act in the novel The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas.Keywords: Illocutionary Act, Pragmatics, Novel The Three Musketeers

Abstract

                                                 ABSTRACTThis research is entitled “Penggunaan Alih Kode oleh Youtubers Indonesia : Suatu Analisis Sosiolinguistik”. This research aims to identify, analyze, and describe the codeswitching that appeared on youtube by Indonesian YouTubers and explain the reason for the phenomenon mentioned above. This research uses the descriptive method. The theories of Hoffman (1991) and Janet Holmes (2013) are used in this research. The data were collected from youtube videos in Indonesian – English, and English-Indonesian from July – December 2019 that was uploaded by more than 13 Indonesian YouTubers who were subscribed by the writer on youtube. The total number of code-switching is 90 data found from the conversation in videos and the title of content video. The result of this research shows that there are three types of code-switching on youtube, namely Inter-sentential switching with 39 data, Intra-sentential switching with 30 data, and Emblematic switching with 211 data. The result of this research also shows that there are six reasons which influence the use of code-switching on YouTubers, namely talking about a particular topic with 29 cases found, being emphatic about something (express solidarity) with 17 cases found, Interjection (inserting sentence fillers or sentence connectors) with 17 cases found, repetition used for clarification with 11 cases found, Intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor with 10 cases found, expressing group identity with 6 cases found. The dominant reasons which YouTubers used are talking about a particular topic with 29 cases found.Key Words : Code Switching, Youtube, Sociolinguistic

Abstract

                                           ABSTRACT      The title of this skripsi is “Alih Kode dalam Program “Nebeng Boy Vlog Musim 2”. The research uses descriptive method and analyzed from socilolinguistic point of view. The aims of this research are to identify, classify, and analyze the code switching appeared on “Nebeng Boy Vlog Season 2” and to find the forms and reasons. This research uses the theory of Romaine (1995) to identify the forms and Hoffman (1991) for analyzed the reasons. The data were collected from 10 videos on “Nebeng Boy Vlog Season 2” in Boy William’s youtube channel. The total number of code switching are 205 data found in the conversation of Boy William and all his guests. The results of this research show that there are two types of code switching. They are inter-sentential code switching and intrasentential code switching. The results of this research show also that there are six reasons which influence the use of code switching on the program “Nebeng Boy Vlog Season 2”. They are talking about particular topic, quoting somebody else, showing emphatic (express solidarity), interjection (inserting sentence fillers or sentence connectors), making repetition used for clarification, and intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor.Keywords: Sociolinguistics, Code Switching, Nebeng Boy Vlog Season 2

Abstract

                                              ABSTRACT This research entitled “The Traditional Symbols of Marriage in Buru and Ireland: A Semiotic Analysis”. The objectives of this research are to identify, classify, analyze and describe the kinds and meanings of the traditional symbols of marriage in Buru and Ireland and to find out the similarities and the differences of traditional symbols of marriage in Buru and Ireland. This research used a descriptive method. The data of Buru marriage symbols were taken by interviewing four informants who are the native speaker to explain what is unknown by writer, while the data of Irish marriage symbols were taken from several articles. The writer used Peirce‟s theory in anylizing the data and Lado‟s theory in contrasting both cultures to find out the differences and similarities. The result of this research shows that the marriage culture in Buru has 6 kinds of symbol such as areca nut as a symbol of agreement, spear and machete as a symbol of proposal, the dowry for the bride‟s parents, sign for daughter and son in law as a symbol husband and wife, the dowry for all family of the bride, and gong. Irish marriage culture has 9 kinds of symbol such as claddagh ring as a symbol of love, loyality and friendship, bouquet as a symbol of fertility, blue wedding dress as a symbol of lucky, wedding cake as a symbol of fertility, honeymoon as a symbol of the bride and groom after marriage, magic hanky as a symbol of fertility, make-up bells as a symbol of reminder of the couple wedding vows and also restore the harmony, the lucky horseshoe as a symbol of luck and braided hair as a symbol of feminime power and luck. The similarities of traditional symbols in Buru and Ireland are the kind wedding proposal, wedding ring and giving coin which have the same meaning. The differences of both cultures are Irish traditional merriage has wedding dress, wedding cake, honeymoon, bouquet, make-up bells, lucky horses, magic hanky and braided hair while Buru has not. Buru traditional marriage uses the symbols such as areca nut, spear, machete, dowry and gong, while Irish traditional marriage has not. Abstract

                                           ABSTRACTPreposition is a word which is placed before a noun or pronoun. It shows the relationship between word and some other words in a sentence. In this study, the writer uses descriptive methods in this research. The data were collected by finding sentences containing prepositions and the writer underlines the sentence that has the prepositions. The writer classifies the data that have been found according to the concepts used. Data are taken from the entire Book of Daniel in the Bible which consists of 12 Article 357 verses. The writer analyzes the form and meaning by using the concept of Aarts and Aarts (1982) and Harman (1992). The result of this research shows that prepositions on the book of Daniel King James Version are found in terms of form and meaning. The forms are simple prepositions (one-word preposition) consist of : At, in, before, of, between, on, by, since, despite, until, during, up, from, with, whereas complex prepositions (multiword preposition) consist of : According to, in front of, as to, in spite of, because of , in terms of, by means of, on account of, by virtue of, on behalf of, in accordance with, out of, in addition of, with regard to. The meanings of the preposition that founded, consist of : refers to place, time, goals and objectives, source or origin, cause or reason, way, tool, inclusion, size, and circumstances.Keywords : Prepositions, Form and Meaning, The Book of Daniel King James Version.

Abstract

                                          ABSTRACTThe title of this research is “Deiksis Persona dalam Film Pride and Prejudice Karya Joe Wright (Analisis Pragmatik)”. This study is an attempt to describe, classify, and analyze person deixis found in the film Pride and Prejudice. The aim of this research is to identify, classify the type and analyze the function of person deixis used in the film. This research uses descriptive method and pragmatic analysis. The data of deixis have been taken from the sentences in the film Pride and Prejudice and analyzed them by using Levinson’s theory. The types of person deixis are: first person deixis, second person deixis, and third person deixis. The result of this study shows that person deixis in this film are first person deixis: I, me, my, mine, we, our, us; second person deixis: you, your, yours; and third person deixis: they, their, them, it, he, his, him, she, her.Keywords: Person deixis, Pragmatic Analysis, Film Pride and Prejudice

Abstract

                                             ABSTRACT       This research is entitled "Analisis Praanggapan dalam novel In a Blue Moon karya Ilana Tan". This research discusses what kinds of presuppositions exist in the novel In a Blue Moon. The purpose of this research is to identify, classify, and analyze the types of presuppositions in the novel In a Blue Moon. The research data were taken from inter-character utterances containing presuppositions in the novel. The data is then analyzed using George Yule's theory. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The results of this study found all kinds of presuppositions in the novel In a Blue Moon, based on Yule's theory. Starting from existential presuppositions, marked by the use of nominal and pronominal (-ku) phrases in speech. Then factive presuppositions, characterized by the use of verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and nouns. Furthermore, lexical presuppositions are characterized by the use of prepositional phrases, nominal phrases, verbs, as well as adverbs. Furthermore, structural presupposition is characterized by the use of the word question what, when, who, how, and why. Meanwhile, for non-factual presuppositions, it is marked by the use of verbs, and for counterfactual presuppositions, it is marked by conjunction.Keywords: Pragmatics, Presuppositions, Novel “In a Blue Moon”.
