Abstract

ABSTRACKThe research is entitled “Family Value in Film Coco by Walt Disney Picture”.  It is written to fulfill the requirement of accomplishing bachelor’s degree in English Department Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University. Coco is an animated movie that tells the story of Miguel, a boy from the Rivera family who is very fond of music and he wants to be a musician, but the Rivera family is phobia with music. This research is about family value.  The purpose of this research are identify classify and analyze the theme in the Film Coco through the characters, plot and setting. The method used in this research is primary method. The writer uses the theory of family value from Lammana and Riedman (1990) to analyze and describe the family values in the movie. The result of this research is that the value in our family is important, through the values in the family we can know and understand the meaning of a family. There are three types of family values: togetherness, stability, and loyalty, through conflict and the plot. Keywords: animation film, family value, culture

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research, entitled “The Interrogative Sentence in the Film God’s Not Dead by Harold Cronk”, is aimed to identifying, classifying and analyzing the types of interrogative sentence found in the film. The data have been collected by downloading the movie and script of God’s Not Dead, observing the script by watching it directly, taking the data from the rerecorded and written data, taking notes whenever the interrogative sentence found and analyzing the data based on related theory. Interrogative sentence is a sentence consisting of a subject and in front of an auxiliary verb or Wh- question. Further explained that the question sentence beginning with an auxiliary verb is called a yes or no question and the other type of sentence consists of a question called tag question. The result shows that there are four forms of interrogative sentence in English used in the film. Those are yes/no interrogative, alternative interrogative, Wh- interrogative, tag question. Yes/no interrogative usually will be answered by yes or no, alternative interrogative offer two or more alternative responses, Wh- interrogative are introduced by Wh- word and they elicit an open ended response, tag question they are sometimes tagged onto the end of a declarative sentence.______________________Keywords: Interrogative Sentence, Grammatical Analysis, Film

Abstract

ABSTRACT              This study entitled “The Interrogative Sentence in the Film Man of Steel by David S. Goyer”, is aimed at identifying and analyzing the interrogative sentences found in the film. The data have been collected by focusing on the conversation among the characters in the film and analyzed based on Frank and Aarts and Aarts’ concepts. Interrogative sentence is a sentence that contains subject and open with an auxiliary verb or a wh-word. Interrogative sentence which is open with an auxiliary verb is called yes/no question and another type of  yes/no question that consist of statement appended to the question is called question tag. The result shows that there are three forms of interrogative sentence in English used in the film, those are yes/no question, tag question and interrogative-word question. Yes /No question can be answered by yes/no, tag question is a question that is added at the end of sentence, interrogative-word question begins  with a question word such as : what, who, why, when, where, how, whom or which. In this film the characters  use interrogative sentence without a question word but with rising intonation. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study entitled Commissive in the Novel The Stars Shine Down by Sidney Sheldon. In doing this research the writer used Austin’s theory (1962). Austin classifies the utterance according to the illocutionary meaning, those are verdictives, executives, commissives, behabitives, and expositives. Commissive act is a speech act that asks the speaker doing something in the future. This research is an attempt to identify, classify, and analyze the commissive in the novel The Stars Shine Down by Sidney Sheldon. The method that used in this research is the descriptive method. The data of commissive in the novel The Stars Shine Down were collected from novel. The data found in this research are identified and classified based on types of commissive, and analyzed the meaning of commissive in the novel The Stars Shine Down based on Austin’s theory. The result shows that the types and meanings found in the novel are promise (completing the tower, giving the building, and meeting with Marthin), engage (focus on, looking for smart people, giving a name, listening, seeing his sick father, building a hotel location, and buying a ticket), offering (read messages, lend money, and give advice), agree (Lara as an iron butterfly, Lara is bigger than her competitors, and beautiful city in Venice), intend (say something), guarantee (guard his father, complete the building, and Lara will success), mean to (go to New York), and declaration (assign new workers, send bert to London, and cancel the meeting). It is expected that the study can help the readers especially the students in learning pragmatics especially commissive in the novel The Stars Shine Down by Sidney Sheldon.Keywords: Commissive Act, Novel The Stars Shine Down, Pragmatic Analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “The Usage of Slang by Millennial in Malang”. The aims of this research are to identify the usage of slang by millennial in Malang to describe their forms and meanings.The usage data were collected from Millennial in Malang. The collected data were analysed using a descriptive methods introduce by Bloomfield (1933), Guth (1961), and Fishman (1971). Practically, this research may provide good comprehension to the readers about the forms of the usage of slang by millennial in Malang. The results show that the forms of the usage of slang are facetious mispronunciation, shortened forms, interjection, figurative expressions and nick name. In terms of meaning, the usage of slang by millennial in Malang words were analysed and translated according to the context used by using Urban Dictionary.As a conclusion. The millennial in Malang used slangs  for their daily conversation. Especially millennial in Roemah Kantja coffee house, their used slangs to talk with each other in every situation. Keywords : slang, millennial, malang, sosiolinguistic

Abstract

ABSTRAKTION In dieser Untersuchung geht es um die Deixis-Typen im Jugendmagazin (JUMA). Diese Untersuchung hat das Ziel im die Deixis Typen zu identifizieren, zu klasifizieren und zu analysieren. Di Datenquellen werden von einige Jugendmagazine genommen.Um dieser Untersuchung zu identifizieren und zu klasifizieren, benutzt die Schreiberin die Pragmatische Analye und die Deskriptive Methode. Als Theoretischen Grundlagen benutzt die Schreiberin die Meinungen von Bünting besteht die Deixis – Typen aus Performatorische Elemente, Performatorische Elemente, und Lokaldeiktische Elemente weiter Klein heit die Deixis – Typen wie folgt : Personaldeixis, Ortsdeixis/ lokale, und Objektdeixis  Als die Schluβfolgerung findet die Schreiberin Deixis Typen im Jugendmagazine nämlich: Performatorische Elemente/ Personaldeixis, LokaldeiktischeElemente/ Ortsdeixis/ lokale, und Objektdeixis     Schlüsselwörter: Deixis, Pragmatik Analysis, das Jugendmagazin (JUMA)

Abstract

ABSTRACT             This research is entitled “The Reflection of Discipline of Joe as the Main Character in the Film Lean on Me (1989)”. The objectives of this research are to find out, classify and analyze the discipline of Joe’s character. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The data of discipline concept were collected from books, skripsis and articles, and the data about discipline of Joe’s character were taken by screenshoting the scene in the film. The data that have been collected then analyzed by using Kenneth’s theory about discipline and to analyzed about the discipline  writer by using Snyder’s theory. The result of the research shows, that the discipline of Joe are gives orders a student to put the cigarette off, giving three days reward to the trouble maker student, telling do not smoking at school, ordering to take the foot out of the chair, expurgating the student who broke the school rules and telling to stay away from drugs, Joe scolding the teachers cannot run the school well, he scolding them because they can’t control the students, he asking to the teacher to apply the discipline to the student. While Joe’s discipline that reflected by his gesture, action, and speech are Joe pointed to the student and said to put out the cigarette, Joe take his point finger upward to affirm and said to his student that coming to school is only one reason that is to learn, moving his right hand toward the teacher for to write the trouble maker student to giving reward, and moving his head right side with the upset face to the teacher and scold them.  Keywords: The Reflection of Discipline, Joe’s Character, Lean on Me Film

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “The Translation Book of James in the Contemporary English Version and New Indonesian Translation Bible” is written to identify, classify and analyze the differences book of James in the Contemporary English Version and New Indonesian Translation Bible. The method used in this research is descriptive method. The data were taken from the book of James based on Contemporary English Version and New Indonesian Translation Bible in terms of personal pronouns, conjunctions, plural and singular forms, vocabularies, and tenses by using the Larson’s (1984) and Lado’s (1971) theory. The book of James in the Contemporary English Version and New Indonesian Translation Bible has 30 differences in terms of grammatical structure and lexical meanings. Both of the books have 5 chapters consist of 107 verses. There are 169 sentences in the book of James in Contemporary English Version but the book of James in the New Indonesian Translation Bible only has 127 sentences. The differences are most commonly found by the writer are the use of conjunctions and plural and singular forms. Keywords: Translation, Contrastive, Book of James.
