Abstract

ABSTRACT        This study entitled “ The Adjective in English and Tabaru Language: A Contrastive Analysis‟‟ aims at identifiying and classifiying the adjectives in English and Tabaru Language, in terms of froms types and position.        The English data were collected from some English book. while the Tabaru Language data was collected from six s informants.        The data was analyzed  using Frank , than theory than contrasted   Lado‟s theory to find out  the differences  adjective of both Language in terms of their types and position.        The result shows that English  has six types of adjectives those are determiner ( article, demonstrative adjective, possessive adjective, numeral adjective, relative and interrogative adjective, and adjective of indenfinitie quantity). And descriptive adjectives whereas Tabaru Language has those types except relative adjective in term of position. Tabaru Language doesn‟t have adjectives after in definite pronoun. Abstract

ABSTRAK Penulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui lebih jauh tentang proses perkembangan masyarakat Sangihe di kelurahan Kombos, dan pola hidup masyarakat Sangihe baik di bidang ekonomi, pendidikan, sosial budaya, agama, sistem pemerintahan dan adat istiadat. Penulisan ini mengambil judul tentang Perkembangan Masyarakat Sangihe di Kelurahan Kombos Barat Tahun 2000-2010 Ditinjau Dari Aspek Sejarah. Dalam penulisan ini penulis menggunakan metode sejarah yang terdiri dari empat tahap, yaitu Heuristik, Kritik analisa, Interpretasi, dan yang terakhir Historiografi. Data diperoleh melalui membaca literatur yang relevan dengan perumusan masalah yang telah ditetapkan, kemudian diklasifikasikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa, adapun faktor-faktor yang mendorong terjadinya persebaran orang Sangir antara lain didasarkan pada terjadinya bencana alam, kepadatan penduduk, berkurangnya tingkat kesuburan tanah, mencari lapangan kerja baru, dan sebagainya. Kelurahan Kombos Barat merupakan kelurahan yang penduduknya sebagian besar berasal dari suku Sangihe. Orang Sangir datang merantau ke wilayah Kombos Barat dengan maksud mencari pekerjaan dikarenakan berkurangnya tingkat kesuburan tanah, kepadatan penduduk, mencari lapangan kerja baru dan sebagainya. Mereka bekerja sebagai nelayan, petani ladang, dan tidak sedikit bekerja sebagai buruh dan tukang. Di wilayah ini mereka hidup berbaur dengan masyarakat yang ada di Kombos Barat, sehingga ada yang kawin mawin dengan masyarakat setempat dan akhirnya mereka menetap dan tinggal di wilayah ini. Perkembangan selanjutnya pada bidang ekonomi, pendidikan, sosial budaya, agama, dan adat istiadat.

Abstract

ABSTRACT   Language is one of the most important characteristics of human behavior. In communication, people not only utter sentences but also transfer it into behavior and this is called speech act. According to Searle (1970:105), illocutionary act is divided into five categories; those are assertive, directive, commissive, expressive and declaratives. The purposes of this research are to identity, classify, and analyze the category of illocutionary and theory functions through utterances found in the film by The  Devil  Wears  Prada  by David Frankel. The collected data have been taken through the utterances that uttered by the characters and analyzed them descriptively based on the theory of Searle. The  research finding, it shows that there are five categories of illocutionary acts in that film. Those are assertive, directive, commissives, expressive and declarative. The functions of the category of illocutionary act found are asserting, complaining, requesting, begging, offering, thinking, and blooming, congratulations. This study is expected to give contribution to the language development in linguistic studies especially in analyzing illocutionary act through pragmatic analysis. Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research conveys how literature works, especially novels that understand the personality of the main character. This study answers two problems, namely: (1) What is the character of the main character in the novel “Di sini Cinta Pertama Kali Bersemi ? (2) What moral message do the authors want to convey through the novel Di sini Cinta Pertama Kali Bersemi?The method used in this research is descriptive analysis method. In this method the researcher divides the activity into 2 stages: first, analyzing the sosychological approach of the main character Di sini Cinta Pertama Kali Bersemi based on character theory according to Hippocrates and Galenus. The second analyzes moral messages based on attitude, behavior and karmic order in the novel “Di sini  Cinta Pertama Kali Bersemi”..The data source of this research is the novel "translated by Disini Cinta Pertama Kali Bersemi” 1990. It is 300 pages long and was first published by the Indonesian Torch Foundation, a member of IKAPI DKI Jakarta. This research is in the form of direct and indirect quotes contained in the novel Di sini Cinta Pertama Kali Bersemi.The results of this study indicate that the literary Sosychology approach in the novel Disini Cinta Pertama Kali Bersemi. Is an emancipation character of the main character who tells the romance of emancipation of a woman who has steadfastly championed her rights and obligations starting from education and love life.Keywords: Field of Literature.

Abstract

This research entitled “Dampak Penggunaan Smartphone dalam Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris (Persepsi Mahasiswa)”. The objectives of this research are to identify and analyze the impacts of using smartphone in learning English based on Baker’s  (2005) theory. The impacts are portability, colaboration and motivation. The researcher uses qualitative approach in order to find out students’ perception about the impacts of using smartphone in learning English. The social situation in this research is   the 4th semester students at the Faculty of Letters. The researcher took 25 students who use smartphone as samples of this research.  The instruments of this researh are questionnaires and open-ended question. The results of this research show that there are some impacts of using smartphone in learning English according to students’ perception. They are portability, collaboration,  motivation and according to students’ perception smartphone can increase their ability in learning English. These results support Barker et al., theory about the impact of using mobile phone in learning English. But there are negative impacts from portability, the students as stated smartphone can be a tool for cheating, and it tends to make students to do things instantly and can be addicted to it. Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research is entitled “Taboo Words in the film Bad Boys II by Michael Bay A Sociolinguistic Analysis”. The objectives of this research are identify, classify, and analyze the types of taboo words.  This research uses a descriptive method. There are were three steps to finish this research, the first step is preparation, the data taboo words in the film Bad Boys II were taken from internet and understanding the movie script, also read some books like journal and skripsi. The second step the writer watches Bad Boys II movie, printed script of the movie, then the writer reads the script and find out the conversations that contain taboo words. The third step is the data were analyzed using theory of Wardhaugh uses seven types of taboo words (1986). The results of this research show that there are 103 taboo words found in Bad Boys II. According to theory of Wardhaugh, there are seven types of taboo words, those are taboo words related to mother in law, animal, sex, death, excretion, bodily function, and religion. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled “Lexical Taxonomy of Food in English and Sundanese (A Contrastive Analysis)”. The objectives of this research are to identify, classify and describe the lexical taxonomy of food and to analyze the similarities and differences of food taxonomy used in both languages. This research uses a descriptive method. There are three steps to finish this research, the first step is preparation. In this step, the writer reads some books about lexical taxonomy. The second step is data collection. In this step, the writer collets the kinds of food that include in lexical taxonomy in English and Sundanese. The third step is data analysis. In this step, the writer identifies, classifies, and describes the data about lexical taxonomy in English and Sundanese according to Frisch in Hickerson (1980:120) theory and then the writer uses Lado’s (1957:114) theory to contrast the data of both languages. The results show that in solid and liquid foods, there are several types of food, such as: rice, fruits, vegetables, bread, meat, fish/seafood, processed food, alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic beverages. The second results show that the lexical taxonomy of food has variation. For example, in English, the variety of food is bread and in Sundanese the variety of food is rice, because bread and rice are the main food. Whereas, the lack variety of food is tuak, because it only has one kind of alcoholic drink. The findings of this research support the theory of Frisch in Hickerson and Lado. Abstract

ABSTRACTS This study entitled “English Adjective in Journal English Teaching Forum”, is aimed at identifying , classifying and analizing English Adjetive‟s found in the Journal. The data have been collected by reading all the pages from that Journal and analized them based on Harman‟s concept. The research questions are : What are the forms of adjectives are found in Journal English Teaching Forum? What are the functions of adjectives are found  in Journal English Teaching Forum? Objective of the research : To identify and classify the form of adjectives found in Journal English Teaching Forum and To analyse the function of adjectives found in journal English Teaching Forum. The result found in the journal : In terms of descriptive adjective the writer found, five forms, of descriptive adjectives those are quality adjective, quantity adjective, compound adjectives, color adjective and size adjectives. In terms of definitive adjectives, there are two forms. In termsof function, adjective can be formed as attributive and predicative. Both of  them arefound in journal Teaching English Forum this Journal.  Key Words : English adjective, grammatical analysis, Journal : English Teaching Forum.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This skripsientitled Code Switching in Indonesian Artist: Sociolinguistic Analysis. The aim of this research is to identify, analyze and describe the code switching appeared in some Indonesian Artist Utterance and explain the reason for the phenomena mentioned above.   The theories that are used in this research are by Hoffman (1991) and Fishman (1876) and this research used a descriptive method. The data was taken from Youtube.   The result of this research shows that there are two kinds of code switching, Intra-sentential switching and Inter-sentential switching. The reasons of  the code switching in artist through its speaker, listener or opponent saying, changing situations of the presence of the  third person, the formal changes into the informal, change of subject, and its prestigious.   Key Words: Sociolinguistic,  Code Switching, Youtube, Indonesian Artist

Abstract

ABSTRACT This Skripsi is entitled “Bentuk Permintaan Sopan dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Wayoli : Suatu Analisis Kontrastif”. The problem of this research is how the forms of polite request in English and Wayoli Language  and how to use the forms. The research questions to be answered are what are the forms of polite request in English and Wayoli Language and what are the similarities and differences of both languages. In terms of methodology, the writer used descriptive method and contrastive analysis. The whole data were collected by doing library and field research. The data of both languages were analyzed based on Lado’s (1971) theory. The results of this research show that the polite request in English and Wayoli language have some similarities and differences. Both languages have polite form. Besides that, the differences in both languages are found in terms of structure, forms of sentences, distribution of verbs and personal pronouns which were used to address the hearers.   Key Words: Polite Request in English and Wayoli Language, Contrastive Analysis.
