Abstract

ABSTRACT This writing takes topic about the Silvan formative history LihunuLikupang's district Regency East Minahasa Is Year North 1925 2013. The explanation of this topic, the writer not only issued what happened in the year 1925, but also explain about the period before. In this writing writer utilizes to methodic consisting of history four phases, which is: Heuristic, Critical analysis, Interpretation, and last phase is Historiography. Besides utilize history method, in this case writer also utilize social's knowledge as tool helps to enable analyses and interpretation is sharper to answer what does become problem in a writing. Lihunu's village constitute village that its resident comes from Sangihe's tribe, On year 1900 get in three brotherses of Sangihe's Islands means their arrival be subject to be catch fishes at Lihunu'sSilvan waters. since first few input and makes a abode it Sangihe's society is gone upon on its happening density, looking for new region, looking for new employment, etcetera. They work as fisherman and farmer then experiencing a lot of good developing in economic area, pendidkan, governance, and tradition. Abstract

ABSTRACT The research is entitled Interrogative sentences in English  and Tehit language. This study is an attempt to describe and analyze the English and Tehit language which focuces on the interrogative sentences in relation to their form and function in both languanges based on Aarts and Aart’s theory and to contrast both language using by theory.   The English and Tehit Language are two languages from different language families. English is included in Indo-European and Tehit Language is included in Austronesian. Each of them has its own characteristics. The English data have been collected from books, whereas the data of Tehit language have been collected by interviewing some informants.   Then, the data are analyzed and described using contrastive analysis approach. The result shows that forms of interrogative sentences in English are yes-no question, tag question and interrogative-word question while in Tehit language has two forms namely interrogative word question and yes-no question. English and Tehit language have similarities, in the form of interrogative word question. The difference is in the placement of the word question: in English question word is at the beginning of sentence and Tehit language at the beginning and the end of sentence.   Keywords: Interrogative sentences, English and Tehit Language, Contrastive Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACT             The title of this research is “Salam dan Ungkapan perpisahan dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Pasan: Suatu Analisis Kontrastif“. The study is an attempt to analyze, and describe, the contrast English and Pasan Language which focuses on Greetings and leave taking in relation to theirs forms and pattern in both languages.    Greetings and leave takings are part of talk and action while  very important in conversation, greetings is used for opening a conversation and also for establishing social relationship with the other people,  whereas leave takings is used to closing a conversation.  This research uses descriptive method and contrastive analysis. The data were taken from Library research and field research, in this case choosing informants and giving the interview.  The data were collected, analyzed ,and described, to find out the forms and patterns of Greetings and leave taking the writer used theory of  Wardhaugh (1986), Tilit  and  Bruder  (1985) , Brown and Ford (1961). After that, the data were contrasted by using Lado’s theory (1971). The results of this study is Greetings and leave taking in English and Pasan language has two forms, they are formal ad informal. The result is there are three patterns in English and four patterns in Pasan language on Greetings. Abstract

ABSTRACT   This research entitled “Ucapan Syukur dalam Acara Adat Syukuran Panen di New York City dan Tana Toraja” is an attempt to analyze the kinds of ceremonies held in harvest thanksgiving. In obtaining the traditional ceremonies, the data were collected by interviewing some native speaker and searched in internet. Descriptive method is applied to describe and analyze the collected data by employing Hymes’ concept in the ethnography of communication i.e. the acronym SPEAKING (S=Setting and Scene, P=Participants, E=Ends, A=Act Sequence, K=Keys, I=Instrumentalities, N=Norms of Interaction and Interpretation, G=Genre) The result of this research shows that some traditional ceremonies held in Harvest Thanksgiving in New York City and Tana Toraja. They are Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York City as the opening ceremony of Thanksgiving day by using modern touched, such as marching band, cheerleaders, some famous band, giant balloons, floats, clowns, broadway shows, Thanksgiving dinner that was held in New York City in the night when all family member get together for a special meal and ecclesiastical ceremony that held before afternoon in Tana Toraja when Harvest Thanksgiving and some traditional dances shown after the ecclesiastical ceremony. The differences are ecclesiastical ceremony was not exist in New York Harvest Thanksgiving and Parades were not find in Tana Toraja. Abstract

ABSTRACT There are two subclasses of verbs in English: those are lexical verb and auxiliary verb. Three types of auxiliary verbs are: tense auxiliaries, do auxiliary, and modal auxiliaries. Modals are a class of auxiliary verbs that combine with the base form to make verb phrase with a wide meaning.   This study is an attempt to describe and analyze modals in the drama “A Doll’s House” by Henrik Ibsen. The aim of this research is to identify and classify the form and meaning of modals.   The method which is used in this research is descriptive method. The data of modals have been taken from the sentences in the drama “A Doll’s House” and have been analyzed by using Azar’s concept.   The result of this study shows that modal forms which are used namely can, may, must, will, should, could, might, and would. Ought to, had better, and shall are not found in the drama “A Doll’s House”.   The study can be continually done by analyzing modals in other literary works by using the concept of Azar. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research which is entitled “Ironi dalam Novel Paper Towns, Karya John Green.” focuses on the types of irony reflected through the characters in the novel. The writer chooses this interesting novel because this novel is one of John Green’s works which achieved the New York Times bestseller for children's books and was awarded the 2009 Edgar Award for best young adult novel. A film adapted from this novel was released on July 24, 2015. The purpose of this study is to identify, analyze, and categorize the types of Irony in this novel. Through this research, we can make a society to be realistic in developing our obsession, assumption, and thought. This research uses Edgar V. Roberts’s theories from his book, Writing Themes about Literature (1964:54). He states that “a character in literature is an extended verbal representation of the human being specially the inner self determines that thought, speech, and behavior.” In addition the writer uses intrinsic approach to gain understanding about the characters and their interaction in the novel. The result of this research shows that the three tupes of irony, namely Verbal Irony, and Situational Irony, and Dramatic Irony are found in the interaction between characters in the novel.   Keywords : Novel, Plot, Characters, Irony, Paper Towns, John Green.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis  research  is  entitled  “Pujian dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Tontemboan (Suatu Analisis Kontrastif).” The objectives of this research are to classify, to identify, and to describe the topic of compliments and compliment responses in English and Tontemboan language, and also to analyze the similarities and the differences of the compliments  and compliment responses in both languages. This research uses a descriptive method. The data of compliments and compliment responses in English language were collected from novel, films, and journals, while the data in Tontemboan language were collected from the informants of native speaker by doing observation. The data that have been collected then analyze by using the theory of Wolfson in Richard and Schmidt (1986) and theory of Richard and Schmidt (1986), and then the writer uses the theory of Lado (1957) to make a contrastive analysis in finding out the similarities and the differences of English and Tontemboan language. The result shows that the topic of compliments in English consists of personal attribute, possession, children, pet, accomplishment, and change in appearance, and the topic of compliments in Tontemboan consists of personal attribute, possession, children, pet, accomplishment, and change in appearance. The compliment responses in English are acceptance, agreement, rejection, shift, and return, and the compliment responses in Tontemboan are acceptance, agreement, rejection, shift, and return. The similarities of the topics of compliment in English and Tontemboan which are found namely personal attribute, possession, children, pet, accomplishment, and change in appearance, and the compliment responses in English and Tontemboan namely acceptance, agreement, rejection, shift, and return. The difference of both languages namely the topics of compliment in Tontemboan is found about food, while English language hasn’t. The response of compliments in English is found high fives, while in Tontemboan are found smile and laugh. The adjectival words which are used in English compliments namely beautiful, great, good, great, lucky, special, smarter, intelligent, charming, kind, nice, bright, cherry, best, grown up, amazing, incredible, very good, well, prefect, and awesome, while in Tontemboan namely keter, te’es, jago’, kagagah, keli, weru, wangker, kemel, kalo’or, papasungan, mantap, bos, wangko’,  dan rangka’. The verbal words used in English compliments namely like and love, and in Tontemboan language namely malekep’o, makeilek’o, and aweano. The adjectival used frequently in English are beautiful, great, and good, and in Tontemboan namely gagah, numanam, and wangker.  Keywords: Compliments, English and Tontemboan Language, Contrastive Analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRAKTION In dieser Untersuchung wurdeDie Kohäsivsgramatik im Evangelium nach Johannes von Johannes beschrieben. Die Quelle der Daten wurden aus Evangelium nach Johanes genommen. Um die Daten zu analysieren benutzte, die Schreiberin die deskriptive Qualitativ Methode. Als die theoretische Grundlage werden die Meinungen von Brinker, Halliday und Hasan, und Beaugrande und Dressler. Halliday und Hasan sagen, daß die Kohäsionmitteln in zwei Teile zu teilensind; nämlich die gramatische Kohäsion und die lexikalische Kohäsion. Die gramatische Kohäsion aus besteht  dieReferenzeskohäsion, die Substitutionskohäsion, die Ellipsenskohäsion, und die Konjunktionskohäsion. Klaus Brinker nennt die Kohäsionmitteln als die Wiederaufnahme. Die Wiederaufnahme wird in zwei Formen geteilt, nämlich die expliziter Wiederaufnahme und die impliziter Wiederaufnahme. Die gramatische Kohäsiongehört zur expliziter Wiederaufnahme. Aber nennt er die Substitution als die Teile von Wiederaufnahme. Beaugrande und Dressler  sagen, daß die Substitution in Paraphrase ist. Das Ergebnis der Untersuchung zeigt, daß es alle Formen der Kohäsivsgramatikim  Evangelium nach Johannes  gegeben werden. _______________________________ Schlüßwörter :  Die Kohäsivsgramatik,  Evangelium nachJohannes

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled “Penolakan Peter Pan untuk menjadi dewasa dalam novel Peter and Wendy karya J.M Barrie” is written to fullfil the requirement of accomplishing bachelor’s degree in English Department Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi university. The focus of this research is Peter Pan’s rejection in the novel.The writer use theory from Leary (2001) to analyze rejection in the novel. This research also  include reason and impact of the rejection. The writer use extrinsic approach to discuss about relation of psychology and literary to identify, analyze, and describe about Peter Pan’s rejection who portrayed in the novel Peter and Wendy and to analyze the impact of Peter Pan’s rejection.The result of this research is Peter Pan’s rejection for being mature is also relate to his past, before he live with the fairies. Peter Pan’s rejection about maturation in this is portrayed with the other character. From the rejection for being mature, the writer find six impact from the rejection.Keywords: Character, Rejection, Peter Pan’s Rejection

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study entitled “Schizophrenia of the Main Character in the Novel Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. A Psichological Approach.” The objective of this research is to identify, classify and to analyze the mental dissorder namely ‘Schizophrenia’ of the main character in the novel entitled Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. The study is based on Psikological approach generally, and specifically on ‘Schizophrenia’. ‘Schizophrenia’ of the main character then will be classified and categorized by its symptoms and causes. The writer is focusing on the main character with the extrinsic approach of analysis. Therefore, emphasizing on the identification of ‘schizophrenia’s’ sympthoms as it is indicated on the main character, based on the diagnosis of international standard Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (2000), as well as identifying the determining factors of how the main character in the novel Fight Club related with the mental illness, namely ‘Schizophrenia’ based on a UK medical journal, The Lancet (2009). The result of this study shows how schizophrenia affects the main character in the novel Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk.
