Abstract

ABSTRACT This study is entitled Silent Way Method Use in Teaching English in PIA English Course Manado. The research question is how the Silent Way Method was used in teaching English in PIA English Course Manado. The aim of the research is to identify and describe the Silent Way Method which was used in teaching English in PIA English Course Manado. In collecting the data, the writer observed a class in PIA for one month. The population is all classes divided into Beginner Class; Power Speaking 1,2,3; Prepatory Practical 1,2; Step Communication 1,2,3,4,5,6; Basic Communication 1,2,3,4,5,6 and Step 1 class was chosen as sample. The data consist of 10 students from different junior high schools in Manado. The data analysis was based on Gateggno’s theory on Silent Way Method. The collected data were identified and analyzed focusing on the aspects of Silent Way Method used in class in PIA English Course including the media. As the result, the teacher in PIA used a syllabus to help in their teaching preparation and in teaching systematically. The teacher’s roles as a lecture, educator and driver of creativity were found in class. Similarly,learners could express their opinion by using their own language, they can also explore words and sentences in English in their own way. As well the learnerin Silent Way Method can be more confident in expressing their questions and statements. The media gave support for the learner in learning English by using Sound – Color – Chart, Teacher’s Silence, Peer Correction, Word Chart and Rod. Abstract

ABSTRACT   Language is the most important part of human life. In communcation, people do not only utter sentence but also transfer it into behavior. Rejection is a form of communication. Rejectiom refusing something of the hearer and rejection belongs to perlocutionay act. Rejection can be divided into explisit rejection and implisit rejection. The collected data were identified and clasified in terms of explisit rejection and implisit rejection that found from the utterances of the characters. The identified and clasified data then analyzed descrptive based on the aspects of rejection (the aspects of perlocutionary act) that uttered by the characters of in the novel according to Leech (1983) and Crystal (1972) theory. The results show that there are two kinds of perlocutionary act found in the novel The Guardian by Nicholas Spark, those are explisit and implisit perlocutionary act whereas the aspects of rejection found in that novel are to get hearer to think, requesting, starting, and offering. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research which is entitled “Tanda V pada Fotografi Potret dalam Koleksi Foto 2017: Shutterstock” is focused on connotation and myths that can be found in the portrait photography. The aims of this research are to analyze the connotation and and describe the myths of V-sign that can be found in portrait phorography. This research uses Roland Barthes‟ theory in the process of analyzing the connotation and describing the myths of V-sign. The source of portrait photography was taken from photo collection 2017: Shutterstock, published by the Jon Oringer on their website at www.shutterstock.com. The method of this research is descriptive method. Every connotation and myth of V-sign found in the portrait photography was analyzed and described according to the process called order of signification.  The result of this research shows that based on the theory of Barthes there are seven different connotations contained in V-sign in the portrait photography. Those are happiness, underestimate, relief, success, independence, relax, political campaign. In addition, there are five kinds of myth contained in V-sign in the portrait photography. Those are are salute, humiliation, peace, victory, contradiction, freedom, two fingers salute.  The writer hopes that this study will help the reader to understand about semiotics especially connotation and myth and how those convey deeper understandings of meanings in portrait photography.  Keywords: V-sign, connotation and myth, portrait photography

Abstract

ABSTRAKTION   In dieser Untersuchung wird über die Arten der Deixis in der Bibel “Evangelium nach Markus” gesprochen. Als die theoretische Grundlage verwendet der Schreiber die Meinungen von Klein, Grebe, und Bünting.  Die Arten der Deixis bestehen aus den Personaldeixis, Ortdeixis, Zeitdeixis, und Objektdeixis. Das Problem in dieser Untersuchung ist welche Arten der Deixis, die es im Bibel “Evangelium nach Markus” gibt. Die Untersuchung hat Ziele, um die Arten der Deixis in der Bibel “Evangelium nach Markus” zu analysieren und zu beschreiben und dann  die Arten der Deixis. Der Schreiber benutzt den pragmatische Ansatz und deskriptive Methode, um die Bibel “Evangelium nach Markus” zu analysieren. Die Schlüßfolgerung der Untersuchung zeigt, daß die Bibel “Evangelium nach Markus” die Arten der Deixis enthält, die aus den Personaldeixis, Ortdeixis, Zeitdeixis,  und Objektdeixis bestehen. Die Personaldeixis werden am meisten in dieser Bibel verwendet.   Schlüsselwörter: Deixis, Bibel, Pragmatik

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “Types of Meaning in the Book of Proverbs.” The problems of this research focus on the seven types of meaning and their descriptions in the Book of Proverbs. The aims of the research are to identify, to classify the verses into the seven types of meanings, and to analyze the verses in the Book of Proverbs using Semantics approach. This research uses descriptive method. In collecting data, the writer focused on reading the words, phrases, or sentences in every verse from chapter 1-15 because the whole 7 types of meaning exist in chapter 1-15. The result of this research showed that there are conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, collocative meaning, reflective meaning, affective meaning, social meaning, and thematic meaning in the Book of Proverbs. The second result of this research is the seven types of meaning have variation in their descriptions.   Keywords: Types, Meaning, Book of Proverbs

Abstract

                                              Abstract    This research entitled “Persahabatan dalam Novel Charlotte’s Web karya E.B. White (1950)” is written to fulfill the requirements of accomplishing bachelor’s degree in English Department, Faculty of Humanities, Sam Ratulangi University. The focus of this investigation is to find the friendship portrayed in the novel Charlotte’s Web. This research particularly investigates the types of friendship and the portrayals of the friendship in the novel. The writer used the theory from W. D. Ross (1999) to identify and classify the data and the theory from Robert Stanton (1965) to analyze the friendship portrayed in the novel Charlotte’s Web. The results of this research show 3 (three) types of friendship and 4 (four) types of characters portrayed. The three types of friendship are: 1) friendship of utility, 2) friendship of pleasure, and 3) friendship of the good. The two types of character portrayals are the friendships according to: 1) character’s speech and 2) character’s action.Keywords: Friendship, Types of friendship, Character, Novel, Theory of Novel.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled ‘Morphological Process of Nouns in English and Gorontalo Language: a Contrastive Analysis. The objective of the analysis are to identify, and describe the morphological process of nouns in English and Gorontalo language and finding out the similarities and the differences of morphological process of nouns in English and Gorontalo language by using of O’Grady’s (1992) theory and contrastive method using Lado (1957) and Whitman (1970). The English data were collected from several English textbooks. Some of them are Morphology: Word Structure in Generative Grammar (1990) by John T. Jensen, and the data of Gorontalo Language from the native speaker’s four informants who can speak Gorontalo Language at the age of 20-60 years old in Manado. The result of this research shows that in morphological process of nouns in English and Gorontalo language have some similarities and differences. The similarities are that English and Gorontalo language have affixation as prefix and suffix, reduplication as full of reduplication, compounding as endocentries and excocentries compounding. The difference is that English language has not infix affixation but in Gorontalo language has an infix affixation, reduplication in English has full reduplication with variety of phoneme and in Gorontalo languages have a partial reduplication. Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research is an attempt to describe and analyze the term of address in English and Biak Language. In this research the writer uses Wardhaugh‟s, ErvinTripp‟s theories and Lado‟s concept, whereas the concepts relating to the terms of address to find out the differences of both languages. The aims of this research are to identify and classify and to find out the kinds of the term of address in English and Biak language and to contrast them, in order to find the differences. The English data were collected from several relevant text books and some sources from internet and previous thesis about the term of address that has been done before, whereas the Biak language data were collected from informants through investigation. The results show the types of English terms of address have (1) situations marked by status, (2) power, (3) identity and (4) generation, whereas Biak terms of address have (1) addressing terms using name (2) addressing terms using kinship, (3) addressing terms using intimacy, (4) addressing terms using respect and (5) addressing terms using mockeries. Abstract

ABSTRACT ­The  topic of  the research is “Gereja Masehi Injili di Bolaang Mongondow” (GMIBM) Pusat Kotamobagu 1923 – 2014. Focus of the research on 3 (three) important points : The beginning of the Gospel in Bolaang Mongondow.How to process of the Christian Evangelical Church in Bolaang Mongondow (GMIBM) Kotamobagu Center was born.The growing of the Christian Evangelical Church in Bolaang Mongondow (GMIBM) Kotamobagu Center since 1923 – 2014. The Methods to used in this research were : Heuristic, Critic and Analyzing, Interpretation, Historiography. Source of the research is show that Gospel comes in Bolaang Mongondow to brought by Europen (Spain, Portugal, Netherlands). Church of Kotamobagu center was born since 1910 – 2014 and then consecrated on February 23 th 1923.

Abstract

ABSTRAKTION In dieser Untersuchung wurde die moralische Botschaft im Film Tschick von Wolfgang Herrndorf geschprochen. Diese Untersuchung hat das Ziel, um die moralische Botschaft im Film Tschick zu identifizieren, zu klasifizieren und zu beschreiben.Als theoretische Grundlage benutzt die Schreiberin die Meinungen von Nurgiyantoro und Suseno. Nach Nurgiyantoro (2013:429) ist Moral etwas, die den Leser von dem Verfasser durch seine Werke geliefert wird. Die Moral zeichnet an das Verständnis (Lehre) über das Gute und die Böse in der Beziehung mit der Handlung, Verhaltung, Verpflichtung, usw. Weiter Suseno (2007:142) teilt die moralische Botschaft wie folgt: Ehrlichkeit, Selbständigkeit, Verantwortung, Unabhängigkeit, Mut, Demut, Kritisch.Die Daten warden durch Film Tschick bekommen. Die Schreiberin benutzt deskriptive methode.Als die Schlüßfolgerung findet die Schreiberin sechs Arten im Film Tschick, nämlich: 1) Ehrlichkeit, 2) Selbständigkeit, 3) Verantwortung, 4) Unabhängigkeit, 5) Mut, 6) Demut. Stichwörter: die moralische Botschaft, der Film, Tschick
