Abstract

ABSTRAKTION Diese Untersuchung bespricht über die soziale Ungleichheiten in Berlin und Jakarta, die es in der Poesien Jakarta von Arifin C. Noer, Berlin 1950 von Rudolf Leonhard,Jakarta von Emha Ainun Nadjib, Berlin von Wolf Biermann gibt. Diese Poesien beschreibenüberdiePerspektivedes Autorsüber die sozialeUngleichheiten in der Gesellschaft. Um die Ziele der Untersuchung zu erreichen, wird deskriptive Methode verwendet. Als theoretische Grundlage wird die Theorien von I. A. Richard verwendet, die Waluyo und Djojosuruto zittiert. Nach dem die PoesienJakarta von Arifin C. Noer und Jakarta von Emha Ainun Nadjib analysiert wurden, haben sie ein gemeinsames Thema, nämlich die sozialen Ungleichheiten des Lebens in der Stadt Jakarta. In der Zwischenzeit, die PoesienBerlin 1950 von Rudolf Leonhard und die Poesie Berlin von Wolf Biermann zeigen, daß es auch die sozialen Ungleichheiten in der Gesellschafft während der Fehde zwischen der Bundes Republik Deutschland und Deutsche Demokratische Republik gibt.   Schluβelwörter : die Poesie, die Perspektive, die soziale Unglechheiten.

Abstract

                                               ABSTRACTThis analysis entitled " Senyapan di dalam Gelar Wicara The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Suatu Analisis Psikolinguistik" is about linguistic learning in a psycholinguistics view. In this study, the writer analyzes the types of pause, one of the forms of speech disfluency in the object of research, the host and the guest stars in the tv talk show The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, presented in the transcript of the talk show aired on 1 May 2020 and 2 May 2020. Pauses during spontaneous conversations is very common in daily life. The theory used to support this research is the theory of FoxTree (1995) and Bortfeld et al (2001). This research is focused on the types of speech disfluency that are pauses, which consist of silent pauses and filled pauses. The purpose of this study is to identify the types of pauses that occur in the talk show, and to find out the causes of pauses that occur in it. This analysis applies a qualitative descriptive method. The stages carried out in this research process are collecting data by downloading the video talk show, taking data transcripts with subtitles, identifying forms of pauses, classifying forms of pauses, looking for the causes of pauses, and summarizing the results of the analysis. The results of this study are the total number of pauses produced by the speakers are 183 times. Silent pauses are produced in the amount of 123 times (67%) and filled pauses are 60 times (33%)Keywords: Pause, psycholinguistic analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research entitled “Rights and Freedom Oppression in Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” is written to fulfill the requirement of finishing Bachelor’s Degree in English Department Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University. It focuses on explaining the Rights and Freedom Oppression in the reflection of the main character as a woman. It also aims at identifying and analyzing the effects of Rights and Freedom Oppression to Black women in general.  In this research, the writer used the theory of rights by W.J. Sidis (1940), freedom by Henry W. Nevinson (1921), and oppression by Tony Booth (2013). The methodology used in this research is divided into three steps: preparation, data colletction, and data analysis. In preparation, the writer read the whole novel and writings relating to the topic. In data collection, the writer found out the ideas and materials through the dialogues, actions, characters, and narrations in the novel autobiography as the supporting elements. In data analysis, the writer used the intrinsic approach to look at the dialogues, actions, characters, and narrations. Extrinsic approach was also employed through the comparison of the depiction of Americans social condition and Black people’s life to analyse the correlation of the data.  The results of this research show that the Black people, especially the women, experienced complex oppressions in relation to their rights and freedom as portrayed in Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “Deiksis dalam Novel The Notebook Karya Nicholas Sparks”. There are some very common words in our language that can’t be interpreted at all if we don’t know the context, especially the physical context of the speaker. These are words such as here and there, this or that, now and then, yesterday, today or tomorrow, as well as pronouns such as you, me, she, him, it, and them. Some sentences of English are virtually impossible to be understand and if we don’t know who is speaking, about whom, where and when and it’s included in deixis. The objective of research is to identify and analyze the types of deixis and the deixis which is the most used in the novel The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. This research focuses on the novel The Notebook which consists of 213 pages. The research uses qualitative approach in order to find out the types of deixis in the novel The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks supported by Levinson’s Theory. The result of this research shows that there are four types of deixis that could be found in the novel The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks such as person deixis (first person deixis like: my, I, mine, and me, second person deixis like: you, and third person deixis like: she, he, her, his, him, them, and they), temporal deixis like: today, yesterday, later, then ,now etc , spatial deixis like: there, here, discourse deixis like: this story, these things, and social deixis is about the different social class between human like low class, middle class, and high class, but in this research of the novel The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks the writer did not find the social deixis.   Keywords: Deixis, Novel, The Notebook, Pragmatics Analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT   The research is entitled ‘Interrogative sentences in English and Sangir Language. This study is an attempt to describe and analyze the English and Sangir Languagewhich focuses on the interrogative sentence in relation to their form and function in both languages based on Aarts and Aart’s theory and to compare by using Lado’s theory. The English and Sangir Languages are two languages from different language families. English is included in Indo-European and Sangir language is included in Austronesian one. Each of them has its own characteristic. The English data have been collected from books, whereas the data of Sangir language have been collected by interviewing some informants. The data are then analyzed and described using contrastive analysis approach. The result shows that forms of interrogative sentences in English are yes-no question, tag question and interrogative word question. English and Sangir language have similarities, in the form of yes-no question word is at the beginning of sentence and Sangir language at the beginning of sentence. The differences both languages are in form and function. In English has three form of interrogative sentences such as yes-no question, wh-question and tag question. Sangir language only has one question form such as Wh-question (Karapa, Koapa, Nikapura, Kangere, Suapa, Kosai). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Keywords : Interrogative sentences, English and Sangir Language, Contrastive Analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This study is an attempt to identify, classify, and analyze the metaphor in the Book of Proverbs. Metaphor is a figurative language that takes two different things which not have relation. The purpose of this research is to get the form of metaphor and the meaning of metaphor in through sentences that had about metaphor.  This research uses a descriptive method. There are three steps to finish this research. First step is preparation, the writer reads the Book of Proverbs to find out the data. The second step is data collection, the writer  collects the metaphor found the proverbs then identifies the kinds of metaphor according to the theory of Lakoff and Johnson (2003). The  third step is data analysis, to the data analyze  about the metaphor in the Book of Proverbs in the Bible, the writer uses the theory from Lakoff and Johnson, to analyze and describe metaphor in the Book of Proverbs.    The result of this research shows there are 27 metaphors in the Book of Proverbs in the Bible. There are divide into three kind metaphor According   to the theory of Lakoff and Johnson (2003) thus are three form metaphor:  anthropomorphic metaphor, animal metaphor, synesthetic metaphor found in the Book of Proverbs.  The finding of this research support the theory of Lakoff and Johnson (2003).  Keywords : Metaphor, Semantic analyze, Proverbs

Abstract

ABSTRACT The title of this research is “The Effect of Family toward Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet’s Behavior”. The objectives of this research are to identify and describe the effect of family in Pride and Prejudice to analyze the influences of family toward Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth’s Behaviors. The data are collected by focusing on the role of family toward Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet and what is the influence to their behavior. The method used in this research is descriptive method and which apply intrinsic and extrinsic approach in analyzing the data.  The writer uses Psychological theory to identify Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth behavior’s. The purpose of this research is to show the role of family in Pride and Prejudice especially, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth’s behavior and the effect of family toward their behavior. The result of this research shows that the effect of family has a big influence to Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet’s behavior.   Keywords: The effect of family, psychological theory and Pride and Prejudice.

Abstract

ABSTRACT               The research entitled ‘Derivational Affixes in English and Tabaru Language (A Contrastive Analysis)’ written as a research to indentify, classify and analyze the derivational affixes in term of form, function and meaning in verb, noun, adjective and adverb. Beside that. the objectives of research are to find the differences of derivational affixes in English and Tabaru language by using O’grady’s (1987) theory and contrasting them by using Lado (1971) method. This data uses descriptive method. The English data were collected from several English textbooks, namely Contemporary Linguistic Analysis : An Introduction (1987) by O’grady and Jhon ; The descriptive Analysis of word (1946) by Nida and the data of Tabaru language were taken from three native speakers as informant who were born and lived in the land of Jailolo, precisely in Bukumatiti village. They were selected based on age, gender, intelligence, knowledge of language, communicative personality and acceptable social group. The results of this research show that the types of English derivational affixes are prefixes and suffixes; the types of Tabaru derivational affixes are prefixes, suffixes and confixes. The functions of both English and Tabaru language derivational affixes are whether to create new lexem that may change the part of speech or not. The differences Tabaru language has confixation but English doesn’t; negative meaning in Tabaru language based on suffixation process but in English though prefixation process; and form variation in English cannot attach to number base form but in Tabaru language it can attach.                                                                                                                                                    Key Words : Derivational affixes, English, Tabaru language.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Every word in the sentence has three classifications namely, syntactic category, syntactic functions and semantic roles. This research is related to the verb in the language Galela. This in the syntactic category serves as predicate verbs that require many types of arguments that must be present in the verb construction. Verb arguments it is located can be moved, that means the position of verbs in Galela not rigid in the sentence. On the role of semantic diverse grouping is applied, used nine kinds of semantic roles among actors, goals, experience, luck, place, tools, time, attributes and results. This study uses Sudaryanto (1993 ), data used in this study were taken from written sources of the biblical book Galela language, all of which are written using language Galela. Abstract

                                              ABSTRACT     Lexical ambiguity can be prevented listeners or readers to understand the true meaning of a word because have more meanings. The relationship between one meaning and another can be influenced by figurative factors or only its literal meanings. Thus, the objectives of this study are 1) to identify and classify the forms and types of lexical ambiguity, 2) to analyze the literal meanings and metaphorical extensions in lexical ambiguity, and 3) to describe similarities and differences in lexical ambiguity in English and Talaud. In obtaining English data, writer uses literature review that carried out in the linguistic books of Kreidler (1998), Cruse (1986), and Wolfgang et.al (2013), also the journal English Teaching forum 2018 volume 56 number 1. Meanwhile the data source of Talaud was obtained from the observation, recording, and interviews. Theory used of this research are Cann's (1993: 8) lexical ambiguity theory, Saeed's (2003) literal meaning theory and metaphorical extension, and Brown's (1980) theory of contrastive analysis. The results out of 100 data was found the differences and similiarities of Lexical Ambiguity in English and Talaud language. The finding appears in Polysemy and Homonymy forms. In Polysemy found several factors viz., the factor of representation, cause-effect, and community’s habit. The significant differences arise in the homograph where the meaning in Talaud language can be distinguished on its syllable stress while in English language often caused by different phonetic transcriptions.Keywords: Ambiguity, Metaphorical extensions, Meaning, Talaud Language
