Abstract

                                                      ABSTRACTThis research is entitled “Praanggapan Dalam Film Little Women Karya Greta Gerwig”. This research attempts to investigate the pragmatics presupposition in the film Little Women by Greta Gerwig. In this research, the researcher attempts to identify, classify and analyze the types and meanings of presupposition in the film Little Women by Greta Gerwig. The data were collected from the film Little Women by Greta Gerwig. In identifying, classifying and analyzing the data, the researcher uses the theory of Yule (1996). The result shows that there are five types of presupposition and their function applied by the characters in their dialogues. First, existential presupposition consist of 393 utterances that presuppose the existence of an entity. Second, factive presupposition consist of 60 utterances that presuppose information that is presumed to be something real or a fact. Third, lexical presupposition consist of 23 utterances that presuppose other meanings or implied meanings that are understood. Fourth, structural presupposition consist of 132 utterances that presuppose information regarding something in speech in the form of interrogative sentences or 5W1H structures, this can be seen in interrogative sentences which are conventionally interpreted with question words. Fifth, counterfactual presupposition consist of 11 utterances that presuppose not only something is not true but also contradicts the existing reality. Sixth, non-factive presupposition presuppose that something is assumed to be unreal consisting of 0 utterances or no data of this type of presupposition found in the film Little Women by Greta Gerwig. The most frequent presupposition in this film is Existential Presupposition which consists of 393 utterances. This research is expected to give contributions to the development of linguistic studies, particularly in Pragmatic analysis. It is also expected to help the readers to have knowledge of the pragmatic presupposition.Keywords: Presupposition, Pragmatics, Film Little Women

Abstract

                                                   ABSTRACT     This research is entitled “Perjalanan Pahlawan Wanita seperti Terefleksi dalam Film Zootopia Produksi Clark Spencer” it is intended as a requirement to accomplish the bachelor‟s degree at Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University Manado. Thisresearch focus on the heroine‟s journey of Judy Hopps. The purposes of this research are to identify, classify, analyze, and describe the heroine‟s journey of Judy Hopps. This research used descriptive qualitative method by Johnson (1953). In identifying, classifying the writer used theory plot by Freytag (1895) and theory of heroine‟s journey by Murdock (1990) and in analyzing the data the writer used theories of character by Eder et. al (2010) and film by Synder (2011) . The results of this research are Judy has gone through all of the stages of the heroine‟s journey. The heroine‟s journey Judy had gone through was (1) separationfrom the feminine, (2) identification with the masculine, (3) road of trials: meeting ogres and dragons, (4) finding the boon of success, (5) awakening to feelings of spiritual aridity: death, (6) initiation and descent to the Goddess, (7) urgent yearning to reconnect with the feminine, (8) healing the mother/daughter split, (9) healing the wounded masculine, (10) integration of masculine and feminine.Keywords: Heroine’s Journey, Zootopia, Character, Setting, Plot, Film

Abstract

                                                   ABSTRAK     Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan mengenai majas yang terdapat dalam lirik lagu karya Melly Goeslaw pada albumnya yang berjudul “Melly”. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mengidentifikasi, mengklasifikasi, dan menganalisis majas yang terdapat pada lirik lagu karya Melly Goeslaw pada album “Melly”. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh dengan mendengarkan dengan seksama lagu Melly Goeslaw pada album “Melly” dengan cara mencari lirik tersebut diinternet dari situs youtube dan google. Data dianalisis menggunakan teori stilistika. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan dalam kesepuluh lirik lagu pada album “Melly” digunakan beberapa jenis majas yaitu 1.) Majas perbandingan 2.) Majas pertentangan, 3.) Majas penengasan. Dari ketiga majas tersebut majas yang paling mendominasi adalah majas penengasan dengan total ada 8 jenis majas, majas perbandingan terdapat 6 jenis, dan majas pertentangan terdapat 3 jenis.Kata Kunci: Gaya bahasa/Majas, Stilistika, Lirik lagu, Album “Melly”                                                                                                     ABSTRACT     This study describes the figure of speech in the lyrics of the song by Melly Goeslaw on her album entitled “Melly”. The purpose of this study is to identify, classify, and analyze the figure of speech found in the lyrics of the song by Melly Goeslaw on the album “Melly”. The source of data in this study was obtained by listening carefully to the song Melly Goeslaw on the album “Melly” by searching for the lyrics on internet from Youtube and Google sites. The data were analyzed using stylistic theory. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluced that in the ten song on the album “Melly” several types of figure of speech were used, namely 1.) comparative of figure of speech 2.) oppositional figure of speech 3.) affirmation figure of speech. Of the three figure of speech, the most dominant figure of speech is the figure of speech of affirmation with total 8 types, the figure of speech in comparison there are 6 types, the figure of speech of opposition there are 3 types.Keywords: style/figurative language, stylistics, song lyrics, Album “Melly”

Abstract

                                                        ABSTRACT     This research is entitled “Eurocentrisme dalam Film Cinderella (2015) yang di produksi oleh Disney” It is written to fulfill the requirement of accomplishing bachelor degree in English Department Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University. The focus of this research is about eurocentrismand the protagonist characters in the filmCinderella 2015. This research used descriptive qualitative method and the writer used two theories, such as the theory of eurocentriam from Samir Amin in his book entitled Eurocentrism1989 and the theory of character from Edgar V. Roberts in his book Writing Themes about Literature(1983) to identify, describe and analyze the data. Abstract

                                                     ABSTRACT     This research is entitled “Terms of Food and Beverage in English and Tobelo language (A Contrastive Analysis)”. The objectives of this research are to identify and classify the types of food and beverages in English and Tobelo language and o analyse the differences and similarities of the terms of food and beverages between English and Tobelo language. This research uses a descriptive method. The data of food and beverages in English were collected from skripsi, journal, or article from the internet, while the data in Tobelo language were collected by interviewing informants by phone calls, furthermore in taking the data pictures of food and beverages in Tobelo language, the writer conducted picture searching of food and beverages by the internet and also took some pictures from the traditional markets and then confirmed the data of the images taken were appropriate and correct with the intended data to the informants. The collected data have been analyzed by using the theories from Frisch in Hickerson’s and Foley’s and then to get a contrastive analysis the writer uses the theory of Lado’s also to find out the difference and similarities of the two different languages. The result shows that the data of English food consist two types those are solid food and beverages/drink. Tobelo language consist of three groups those are solid food, liquid food, and beverages/drink. English food and beverages has 8 ways of making food and beverages, Tobelo language has 9 ways. English food and beverages has 8 types of basic food and beverages ingredient, while in Tobelo language has 10 types of basic food and beverages ingredient. The differences found are in English categories has no liquid food while in Tobelo language has. In English language have many kinds of bread while in Tobelo language have many kinds of cakes/cookies. In the way of food and beverages are made, Tobelo language has nonofu/fufu(smoke/fumigation) but in English has not. In the basic ingredient of staple food in English has wheat and bread while in Tobelo language has rice and sagu(sago)._______________________Keywords: Terms, Food and Beverages, English Language, Tobelo Language, Contrastive Analysis.

Abstract

                                                        Abstract     This research entitled “Genetic Structural Analysis on Novel Rogue Lawyer by John Grisham: An Analysis of Sociological Literature”. The focus of this research is a sociological analysis on Rogue Laywer. It is showing the social structure and author’s idea reflected in imaginary world using genetic structuralism theory. In this analysis, the writer attempts to analyze the social structure and author’s idea by looking at the characters, plot, setting. The data were collected from the novel Rogue Lawyer. The writer uses the theory of Literature by Wellek and Warren (1956) in order to analyze the intrinsic approach. He also uses Lucien Goldmann (1980) theory about genetic structuralism, and Ashley Crossman theory about social structure (2019) to analyze the extrinsic approach. The method employed in this research is descriptive method. The result of this study shows that there are three social structures included in the novel, those are law and law enforcement, social structure of family, also about upper class and lower class. Abstract

                                                   ABSTRACT     This research is entitled “Childhood Trauma as Reflected in The Film Joker by Warner Bros 2019”. The aims of this research are to identify and classify the main character who experiences childhood trauma in the film, and this research focused on childhood trauma conditions from the main character by using a psychological approach. The writer uses three theories from Horney (1939), Wolfe (1999), and Stanton (1965) in the process of identifying, classifying, and analyzing related to childhood trauma and characters. The method used in this study is a descriptive method. In doing this research, the writer watches the joker film, reads joker script, some journals and book. The data were collected by the writer from joker film and its script, related to character's speech, character conduct, character conversation and character action. The result of this research shows that there are four types of childhood trauma that happened to the main character, namely physical abuse, child neglect, sexual abuse, and emotional abuse. The writer hopes that this research could enrich psychological research in literature, and can make anyone understand the causes and ef ects of childhood trauma experiences.Keywords: Childhood Trauma, Child Abuse, Film Joker, Character Development, Psychology Analysis.

Abstract

                                                   ABSTRACT     This research is entitled “The Terms of Food in English and Patani Language: A Contrastive Analysis”. This reseacrh is an attempt to identify, classify, analyze and describe the terms of food which are used in English and panati language. The English data have been collected from thesis and from the internet, whereas the Patani language data have been elicted from some informants. The qualitative descriptive method is used to describe and analyze the kinds of food by using Frisch in Hickerson theory. After describing the kind of food in English and Patani language, the writer makes a contrastive analyze by using Robert Lado theory in finding out the similarities and diffrences of both Language. In this research the writer uses Givon (1994) and Leech’s theory (1971) to analyzing the data, and Lado (1957) theory to contrasting both languages to find out the differences and similarities. The result shows that the kind of terms of food in English and Patani language consists of two groups, they are solid food and oil food. Solid food consists of fruits, vegetable, bread, meat, fish and seafood, and proccesed food. The form of food in Panati are liquid and solid food. English food term consist of word and phrase and the meaning only denotative. Patani society has so many celebrations that used the certain name. Word, phrase, and clause as lingual forms of Panati food. The meaning are denotative and connotative meaning.Keywords: The Terms of Food in English and Patani Language, Contrastive Analysis

Abstract

                                                     ABSTRACT     This research is entitled “Taxonomy of Food and Beverage in English and Tondano Language (A Contrastive Analysis)”. The objectives of this research are to identify, classify and describe the taxonomy of food and beverage, the way food and beverage are made and the basic ingredients of food and beverage in English and Tondano Language and to find out the similarities and differences in both languages. The data of food and beverage in English were collected from the text books, articles, and the website, while in Tondano Language were collected from informants and also by taking picture of foods and beverages in some wedding party, sorrow ceremony, restaurant, and traditional market. The data about foods in English and Tondano language that have been collected then identified, classified, and analyzed by using the theory of Frisch in Hickerson and the theory of Foley. Then, the data of both languages were contrasted by using Lado’s theory. The results of this research showed that in English and Tondano language, there are similarities in the food categories namely solid foods and beverages in English, and in Tondano language namely solid foods, and beverages. In English there are six kinds of solid food, such as meat, bread, fruits, vegetables, fish and sea food, but in Tondano language has five kinds of solid food, such as meat, fruits, vegetables, fish and rice. English and Tondano language has the same kinds of drinks, such as alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink. The way of food and beverage in English are made: namely baking, grilling, sauteing, boiling, steaming, blending and squeeze, while in Tondano language it is tapan/panggang “grilling”, tinumis/tumis “sauteing”, ginoreng/goreng “frying”, pinera/woku “frying/grilling”, kinukus/kukus “steaming”, tinunu/bakar “baking”, and rinubus/rebus “boiling”. Food and beverage based on the basic ingredients in English are meat, fish, wheat, flour, fruits, vegetables, milk, coffee, and herbal plants, while in Tondano language are daging “meat”, ikan “fish”, sayur-sayuran “vegetables”, buah-buahan “fruits”, susu “milk”, tepung “flour”, umbi-umbian “tubers”, beras “rice”, kopi “coffee”, pohon “tree” dan daun “leaf”.Keywords: Taxonomy of Food and Beverage, English and Tondano Language, Contrastive Analysis

Abstract

                                                     ABSTRACT     This research entitled “Makna Konotatif dalam Pidato Donald John Trump”. This research examines about connotative meaning found in Donald John Trump’s speech. This study has two research problems, which are the kinds of lingual forms that have connotative meanings described on Donald Trump’s speech and the functions of connotative meanings stated on Donald Trump’s speech. The aim of this research is to identify and classify the kind of lingual forms and analyze and describe, the functions of connotative meaning on Donald John Trump’s speech. The data were taken from several Donald John Trump’s speech such as Donald Trump Inauguration Speech on 21st January, 2021, Donald Trump’s speeches to United Nation General Assembly, President Donald Trump delivers annual address at State of the Union 2020 and Donald Trump Farewell speech from White House. The researcher uses a semantic theory by Geoffrey Leech (1981). The researcher identified and classified the phrases and sentences and then analyzed and described the connotative meaning. As the result, there are 40 phrases which consist of connotative meaning. The researcher found also there are 14 phrases with informational function, 13 phrases with expressive function, 10 phrases with aesthetic function, 2 phrases with phatic function and 1 phrase with directive function that found in this research.Keywords: Connotative Meaning, Semantic Analysis, Donald John Trump’s Speeches
