Abstract

Rattu, SS, M,Mktg2                                   Dr. Garryn Ch. Ranuntu, S.PM.Hum3     This research entitled “Illocutionary Act on the Interview of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs” is a pragmatic analysis focusing on speech act, especially, illocutionary act. This research is an attempt to indentify and classify types and analyze and describe functions of illocutionary act used in the Interview of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. This research is conducted by using descriptive method where the focus on this research is identifying illocutionary acts on the Interview. Furthermore, this research is done by using theory from Austin (1962) to analyze and classify those illocutionary acts according its function. The result of this research shows that there are 34 illocutionary acts found on the press conference and all the data are divided into five types of illocutionary acts and its function, such as: verdictives (declare, date, calculate, hold as metter as fact, estimate, and value), excersitives (ordering, appointing, directing, advising), commissives (declare an intention, promising, espouse, and oppose), behabitives (compliment and thank), expositives (giving a statement and giving a view).______________________________________Keywords: Pragmatic, Illocutionary Act, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Interview

Abstract

Lasut, M.Hum2                                     Donald Ringgo Lotulung, S.S M.Hum3     This research is entitled "Tindak Tutur Komisif dalam film The Conjuring 2. This study aims to identify, classify, and analyze the kinds and functions of commissive act in the film The Conjuring 2. This study used a descriptive method. Data were collected from conversations between characters, then classified and analyzed according to Austin's (1962) theory. Austin divided speech acts into three categories, namely locutionary acts, illocutionary acts and perlocutionary acts. Austin then classifies utterances according to the meaning of the illocutionary, namely verdictive, executive, commissive, behabitive, and expositive. There are twenty six kinds of commissive act in The Conjuring 2 movie by Chad Hayes, those are promise, declare for, undertake, intend, guarantee, bet, engage, agree, purpose, contract, vow, adopt, mean to, envisage, dedicate myself to, am determined to, covenant, bind, plan, propose to, espouse, shall, oppose, contemplate, consent and side with. The functions that have been found are commissive act intending, commissive act promising, commissive act declaring, commissive act vowing, commissive act undertaking, commissive act purposing, commissive act guaranteeing, commissive act meaning to, commissive act agreeing, commissive act engaging, commissive act opposing, while functions like betting, contracting, adopting, envisaging, dedicate myself to, am determined to, covenanting, binding, planning, proposing, espousing, shall, contemplating, consenting and siding with were not found in The Conjuring 2 movie._ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _Keywords: Commissive Act, Film The Conjuring 2, Pragmatic Analysis

Abstract

                                                    ABSTRACT      This research is entitled “Grammatical Ambiguity in The Interview (2014) movie by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg”. Ambiguity is a word, phrase, or statement which contains more than one meaning. The ambiguity that occurs at the sentence level is called grammatical ambiguity, this ambiguity is caused by the ambiguousness of grammatical forms or from the structure of sentence. The aims of this research are to identify and classify the forms of grammatical ambiguity and analyze the cause of the grammatical ambiguity that are found in The Interview movie (2014). The data source of this research is collected from The Interview Movie (2014). This research uses theory from Ullmann (1962). There are 62 dialogues of gramatical ambiguity. Those grammatical ambiguities are classified into 3 types; 1 preffix and suffix, inflectional ending, and equivocal phrasing (amphibology). There are, 42 prefix and suffix consisting of prefix un- totalling 6, prefix mis- totalling 3, prefix in- totalling 3, suffix –ly totalling 10, suffix –er totalling 6, suffix – ed totalling 7, and suffix –s totalling 7. 13 Inflectional ending and 7 equivocal phrasing (amphibology).Keywords: Grammatical Ambiguity, The Interview Movie (2014), Semantic

Lasut, M.Hum2                                   Dr. Garryn Ch Ranuntu, S,pd, M.Hum3     This study is entitled Prinsip-prinsip Kesopanan dalam Film Home Alone. The aims of this study are to identify, clasify, and analyze the maxims that related to politeness principles and their functions found in the Film Home Alone. The method of this study is descriptive method. The technic of this study are collecting, classifying and anaykzing data. The data were collected through conversation among the characters. This study using Leech’S (1983) theory. The result shows that there are six maxim of politeness principles and their function. Those are tact maxims, genorisity maxim, approbation maxim, modesty maxim, aggrement maxim, and sympathy maxim. Abstract

Sigarlaki, S.S M.Hum³     This research entitled "The Associative Meaning in Book of Job". The problems of this research focus on the five types of Associative Meaning, that is connotative meaning,social meaning, affective meaning, reflected meaning and collective meaning and their descriptions in the Book of Job. The aims of the research are to identify, classify the verse into the five types of associative meanings, and to analyze the verses in the Book of Job using Semantics approach. This research uses descriptive method, supported by Leech's theory. In collecting data, the writer focused on reading the words, phrases, or sentences in every verse from chapter 1-42.The writer found 19 words, 8 pharases, and 17 sentences which contains the five types of associative meanings. The result of this research that the writer found that are 14 date of connotative meaning, 5 date of social meaning, 10 date of affective meaning, 5 date of reflective meaning, and 10 date of collocative meaning in the Book of Job.Keywords:Meaning, Associative Meaning, Book of Job, Descriptive Analysis.

Abstract

                                                     ABSTRAK     Skripsi ini khusus membahas mengenai jenis tindak tutur ilokusi dan frekuensi penggunaan ilokusi apa saja yang terdapat dalam kumpulan Cerpen Dilarang Mencintai Bunga-Bunga karya Kuntowijoyo. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode padan dan teknik metode padan. Dari hasil penelitian ini, penulis menemukan 5 jenis tindak tutur ilokusi yaitu ilokusi asertif, direktif, komisif, ekspresif, dan deklaratif. Berdasarkan hasil analisis ditemukan ilokusi asertif yang mengandung 4 maksud tuturan yaitu menyatakan, mengusulkan, mengeluh, dan mengemukakan pendapat. Ilokusi direktif yang mengandung 4 maksud tuturan yaitu memerintah, memohon, menuntut, dan memberi nasihat. Ilokusi komisif yang mengandung 1 maksud tuturan yaitu menawarkan. Ilokusi ekspresif yang mengandung 5 maksud tuturan yaitu mengucapkan terima kasih, mengucapkan selamat, memuji, mengecam, dan menuduh. Serta ilokusi deklaratif yang mengandung 1 maksud tuturan yaitu mengucilkan.Kata Kunci: Tindak tutur ilokusi asertif, direktif, komisif, ekspresif, dan deklaratif.                                                     ABSTRACT     This thesis specifically discusses the types of illocutionary speech acts and the frequency with which the illocutionary use is contained in the collection of short stories Dilarang Cinta Bunga by Kuntowijoyo. This research uses the equivalent method and the equivalent method technique. From the results of this study, the authors found 5 types of illocutionary speech acts, namely assertive illocutionary, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that the assertive illocutionary contains 4 speech intentions, namely stating, proposing, complaining, and expressing opinions. The directive illocutionary contains 4 utterances, namely ordering, pleading, demanding, and giving advice. Commissive illocutionary which contains one utterance intent, namely offering. Expressive illocutionary containing 5 speech purposes, namely to say thank you, congratulate, praise, criticize, and accuse, the declarative illocutionary which contains one utterance intent, namely to exclude.Keywords: illocutionary speech acts assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative.

Abstract

                                                      ABSTRACT     This research is entitled “Ilustrasi Psikopat dalam Film The Orphan oleh Jaume Collet-Serra”. It is written to fulfill the requirement of accomplishing bachelor degree in English Department Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University. The focus of this research is psychopath behavior and the impact of psychopathic on other characters in the film The Orphan. This research uses descriptive qualitative method by Nasir (1998:63), and the writer uses two theories, the theory of psychopath from Lyyken (1957) and the theory of character from Edgar V. Roberts (1983) to identify, describe and analyze the data. Based on the analysis of Ilustration of psikopath in the film The Orphan. It was found that Psychopaths have a brave nature in taking cruel actions and they can do so without having the slightest guilt. In this film there are 4 types of characters from a psychopath, namely failure to conform to social norms (Failure to conform to social norms), as directed by repeated lies (Deceitfulness), Aggressive traits exhibited by physical or repeated attacks (Aggresiveness), and are consistently irresponsible as demonstrated by repeated failure to maintain consistent work behavior (Consistent irresponsibility).Keywords: Psychopath, Literature and Psychology, Film, The Orphan

Abstract

                                                      ABSTRACT     This research is entitled “Euphemism in English and Sangirese language: A Contrastive Analysis”. The objectives of this research are to identify and classify the words and phrases of euphemism in English and Sangirese language and to analyze and describe the differences and the similarities of euphemism between the two languages. This research uses descriptive method. There are three steps to finish this research, those are preparation, data collection, and data analysis. This research uses the theories of Wardhaugh (2006:240) and Fromkin (2003:479) to find out the euphemism in English and Sangirese Language, and Lado (1957) to find out the differences and the similarities between the two languages. The English data have been collected from sociolinguistic books, articles or journals, videos, movies, and English previous researches done by student in Faculty of Humanities. Sangirese language data have been collected by interviewing some informants who are native speakers of Sangirese language. The finding shows that the differences of the categories of euphemism in both languages are: English has no categories of euphemism uses on the sea, euphemism word related to supernatural, euphemism word related to drink and food, euphemism related to human physics, euphemism word related to bathing and euphemisms related to bed, while Sangirese language has these seven things. The similarities between two languages are: English and Sangirese has euphemism words which have the same meaning, form, and function, those are euphemism word related to death, euphemism word related to unemployment, euphemism word related to criminality, euphemism word related to sex, euphemism word related to natural body function, euphemism word related to sex organs. This research expected to help the students in identifying euphemism in their languages and give knowledge to publics of what euphemism is and how important euphemism in human society.Keywords: euphemism, English and Sangirese Languages, contrastive analysis

Lasut, M.Hum2                                  Donald Ringgo Lotulung, S.S M.Hum3     This study entitled “Illocutionary Act in the Film Maleficent by Linda Woolverton: A Pragmatic Analysis”. The method that is used in this research is descriptive method. The purpose of this study is to identify, classify and analyze the kinds and functions of ilocutionary act in the film Maleficent by Linda Woolverton. The data were collected from conversations between characters, then classified and analyzed by using theory of Searle in Leech (1983). There are five kinds of illocutionary act in the Film Maleficent by Linda Woolverton, those are assertives, directives, commisives, expressives and declaratives. The illocutionary functions of assertives in the film Maleficent by Linda Woolverton are stating, asserting, suggesting, complaining, reporting. The illocutionary function of directives which were used by the characters were asking, commanding and requesting. Advising and ordering functions were not found in film Maleficent. The illocutionary functions of commissives are promising, vowing and offering. The illocutionary functions of expressives are thanking, congratulating, blaming, accusing, praising and apologizing. The illocutionary function of declaratives are punishing and canceling while function like naming, baptizing and promoting were not found in film Maleficent.--------------------------------------------------------Keywords: Illocutionary Act, Kinds and Function, Film Maleficent

Abstract

                                               ABSTRACT      The title of this research is “Perlocution in the Film Do You Believe by Jonathan M.Gunn (A Pragmatic Analysis)” and it is intended as a requirement to accomplish a degree at the Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University. The aims of this study are to identify and classify the types of perlocution and to analyze and describe the meanings of perlocution in the film Do You Believe. Theories from a few experts are applied in this study, such as theory from Austin (1962) to unfold the meaning of perlocution in general and theory from Leech (1983) to unfold the categorization of 15 aspects of perlocution. The results show that there are some aspects of perlocutionary such as get hearer to know, persuade, encourage, irritate, frighten, amuse, get hearer to do, inspire, impressed, get hearer to talk, distract attention, attract attention, bore, deceive, embarrass.Keywords: Perlocution, Linguistic, film Do You Believe
