Abstract

Gandrung is a distinctive art that has become the mascot of Banyuwangi tourism. Behind the fame of Gandrung's art today, there is a debate concerning the existence of Gandrung. The debate occurred between two groups who had different views about Gandrung. This study aims to dissect the reality of the existence of Gandrung based on these different views. The focus of this research is the reality of Gandrung in the Osing community in Banyuwangi. This research uses a qualitative approach. The data of this research are in the form of utterances sourced from the results of interviews with Gandrung art activist informants. Based on data analysis, it was found that Gandrung's reality in Banyuwangi included: (1) Gandrung and art for struggle, (2) Gandrung differences then and now, (3) Gandrung art is not a ritual, (4) Gandrung dancers are not highly educated, (5) Gandrung is considered far from religion, and (6) Gandrung is a good user of witchcraft.

Abstract

The objective of this research were to find out the hedonism practices through main character dialogues in The Wolf of Wall Street movie based on Weijers’s theory of hedonism and happiness which consist of six types of hedonism, they were folk hedonism, value and prudential hedonism, motivational hedonism, normative hedonism, hedonistic egoism, and hedonistic utilitarianism. This research used descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. The data were taken from the main character dialogues in The Wolf of Wall Street movie. The result of the research showed that there were five types of hedonism practices found in the main character dialogues of The Wolf of Wall Street movie, they were folk hedonism, value and prudential hedonism, motivational hedonism, hedonistic egoism, and hedonistic utilitarianism.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the forms, attitudes, and typical speech acts of the illocutionary commentators by gender on President Donald Trump's speech at the Liberty University. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative approach to speech acts. Data sources were obtained from commentators on President Donald Trump's speech. The data used was comments written below the speech video display downloaded on Youtube. The data analysis technique was an interactive analysis consisting of four stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data analysis, and drawing conclusions.

Abstract

ABSTRACT:This study aims to investigate the process of online peer assessment implementation in a writing activity and to find out the students’ responses toward the implementation of online peer assessment in learning writing skills. This research uses a qualitative approach and case study as the research design. The data were collected with the triangulation data by observation, interview, and documentation. Observation checklist, in-depth interview, and documentation used as data retrieval instruments. The subject of this study is an English teacher and students of class XI TKJ 1 at SMKN 1 Rawamerta. The result of this study shows that teaching writing to the students’ responses toward the use of peer assessment was positive. It can be seen from the attitude and enthusiasm. Students agreed that peer assessment is a very effective technique used in writing activities.  Keywords: Peer Assessment, Writing Skill
