Abstract

After the collapse of the New Order, the debate on the discourse of Islamic women developed rapidly in various directions due to the influence of ideas from both the East and the West. Islamic thinkers from within the country are being challenged by the massive influence of global Islamism and the entry of modern western culture. This very complicated battle caused each faction of thought to have to find a way to speak up and propagate their discourse in the public sphere. The most appropriate tool to spread ideology in the midst of the development of society and technology is through popular culture. It can be seen that since the collapse of the New Order, each faction of thought propagated their version of discourse through literary works, magazines, films, entertainment programs on television, social media, to everyday commercial products through their advertisements and taglines. Most of the issues they dispute relate to the role of Islamic women, women's relationships with Muslim men, daily practices as Islamic women, and the image of Islamic women, such as the use of the hijab, clothing and accessories. The results of the research then show that although there are many outside thoughts that enter Indonesian society, the discourse of Islamic women in the traditional-moderate version of Islam as a thought that has long existed in Indonesia is still the majority discourse in society.

Abstract

Kaba or Minang oral literature is slowly being pushed aside by the rapid development of the times. Therefore, we need an action for preservation, namely by transferring the vehicle. One of the kaba entitled Kaba Sabai nan Aluih contains moral values, religious values, and cultural values. The transfer of Wahana Kaba Sabai nan Aluih is an opportunity as well as a strategy to maintain the cultural heritage of kaba or oral literature in the era of technological disruption. The transfer of the vehicle is also so that the ancestral heritage in the form of kaba is not lost and the value contained in it can still be conveyed to the next generation of the nation. This study aims to reveal the use of information technology, especially in making the script of Kaba Sabai nan Aluih in the form of animated films and other creative media. This research uses the perspective of the transfer theory theory. The data is sourced from literature studies or narrative texts in articles, books, and journals related to the transfer of vehicles. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. This study shows that the conversion of the kaba into animated films or other creative media can prolong the life of the kaba in society. In addition, to introduce the younger generation to the typical kaba from the Minang area, West Sumatra. In adapting kaba into an animated film requires a touch of technology. Through technology, kaba can be adapted by bringing the perspective of the nation's next generation closer, namely in the form of animated films. The concept of transfer of vehicle is only a bridge in order to be able to pass on the value of the past into the value of the present in a way that is acceptable, digestible, and more attractive to the current generation. The transfer of the vehicle is just an effort to adapt to the context of the times and the interests of the younger generation. Therefore, the more attractive media is technology-based or digital multimodal media. However, the orientation of the child is still led to the book. As long as it has a mature concept, collaboration from the creative media industry, and sufficient funding, the animation can be accepted by the community so that kaba or oral literature is well protected and continues to live in society even though it is in a different world.

Abstract

Palakesimpar lexicon had a great benefit, especially for people’s health. Besides that, this research was believed to have the value of local wisdom, which had a large enough contribution to developing the Indonesian language The aims of this research were to 1) determine the palakesimpar lexicon in the Javanese language; 2) classify the lexicons based on their function; 3) describe the cultural meaning and philosophy which was available behind the palakesimpar lexicon. Ethnolinguistics theory with a qualitative approach was used in this research. As a qualitative approach, this research used ethnolinguistic theory which was supported by the symbolic interaction theory. Data obtained from three sources include humans as informants, references or documents, and circumstances or events. Pieces of information obtained from the informants later were typed as writing which will form the words, phrases, sentences, sentences cluster, or text. The result of the research could find that palakesimpar lexicons consist of 28 units. They can be categorized according to their function in life as 1) vegetables, 2) fruits, 3) snacks, and 4) drugs. There were 13 kinds of vegetables, namely bligo, blestru, gambas, jipang, labu, kara benguk, kara buncis, kara krupuk, kara uceng, kacang gleyor, kacang tholo, kacang ruji, and kacang kapri. There were 8 types of fruits:  blewah, krai, markisa, melon, semangka, timun, timun wuku, and timun suri. There were 2 types of snacks: wuluh and bligo. The last, there were 3 kinds of drugs: cabe, mrica, and kemukus. Based on the analysis, it was known that palakesimpar lexicons had 28 units categorized as thukulan, not tandurans ‘plant’. The other lexical units worked as fruits, snacks, and drugs. For Javanese people, some of the palakesimpar lexicons can build the idiomatic expression. They had indirect meanings. The meaning of indirect meaning could be understood through context by applying the translation technique which was correlated with philosophical values in Javanese culture. The object of study that applies ethnolinguistics theory is still limited in number. There are many topics that have not been studied yet. For this reason, more adequate research both in terms of quantity and quality needs to be carried out. It is very important because, by this anthropological linguistic theory, the values of the cultural philosophy contained behind the use of language can be revealed.

Abstract

The term good-looking is still used in the labor recruitment process in recent years. Especially in the recruitment of bank employees in Indonesia. Bank employees in Indonesia often get the stereotype that "bank staff must be beautiful”. So, this study describes the representation of good-looking bank employees in Indonesia. From this representation, this study also explains that the term good-looking is a term that practices beauty standards in society. This study used qualitative methods and took the data from informal conversations with several informants. In this study, researchers applied the theory of post-feminism, namely beauty myth, and also used Foucault's theory of power relations. The results of this study show that some banking agencies do facilitate their employees in caring for and maintaining physical appearance. It also proves that a good-looking bank employee is according to social beauty standards (ideal height and weight, langsat skin, makeup, and others). This proves that the standard practice of beauty in women is still thriving in society, even in a job or career, not in the entertainment field.

Abstract

Religious activities at Bodhisattva Buddhist Sunday School (SMB), such as devotional worship, meditation, paritta recitation, and religious character building, are an integral part of religious education. However, there is still a gap between the level of student participation in these activities and their understanding of Buddhist teachings. This study aims to analyze the relationship between students' religious activities and their level of understanding of Buddhist teachings at SMB Bodhisattva. The method used is a quantitative approach with a correlational design through a survey technique. The sample was taken saturately from 100 active students at SMB Bodhisattva. The research instrument was a closed questionnaire using a Likert scale. Data analysis was performed using Pearson's correlation test through SPSS version 26. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between involvement in religious activities and understanding of Buddhist teachings. The indicators of worship and religious character habits contributed the most to this understanding. These findings confirm that consistent religious participation can shape students' understanding of the core values of Dhamma, such as the Four Noble Truths, the Law of Karma, and the Noble Eightfold Path. This study highlights the importance of integrating spiritual experiences into the non-formal Buddhist education process. The practical implications include the need for collaboration between SMB administrators, teachers, parents, and the temple community to create a conducive learning ecosystem for shaping a spiritually and ethically superior Buddhist generation.
