Abstract

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is the virus that causes AIDS (aquiredimmunodeficiency syndrome) and AIDS is a condition when the lymphocytes and whiteblood cells were damaged thereby weakening the body's natural defense system. NationalAIDS Commission (KPA) of North Sulawesi Province notify the data cumulative basisJanuary - December 2011 HIV / AIDS in North Sulawesi is a 1.928 case. This study aimedto investigate the characteristics of people with HIV / AIDS in VCT Clinics Hospital in thecity of Manado and reviewing management of therapy in patients with HIV / AIDS in VCTClinics Hospital in the city of Manado with Free Clinical Management of HIV Infection inAdults and Adolescents those used by the Guidelines National Antiretroviral Therapy in2007 from the Ministry Of Health.This study is a descriptive survey research and data collection as retrospective for3 months from June to August 2012 at the VCT Clinic Hospital that is in Manado city thathas a special clinic VCT (Voluntary Counseling and Test). The study was conducted on 71records medical records of HIV / AIDS and got Antiretroviral therapy (ARV). Data wereanalyzed with descriptive analysis. The results showed 4 ARV drug regimen where thereare 32 patients (45.07%) got Main Line (Duv-Nev) and there were 17 patients (23.94%)got Line Alternative I (Duv-Efv) there are also 9 patients (12, 67%) got Alternative line II(Stav-Hiv-Nev) and 13 patients (18.30%) got Alternative line III (Stav-Hiv-Efv).Keywords: HIV, AIDS, VCT clinics and ARV

Abstract

This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract in fresh Pinang Yaki(Areca vestiaria) seeds and the total content of flavonoid compounds. Total Antioxidant test usedFerric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) method and Chang method, 2002, for calculate thetotal flavonoids and for test the antioxidant activity. Result from this study showed that theantioxidant activity of fresh samples is 3.80375 mmol/100g and the total flavonoids in freshsamples is 7.2374 mg / kg.Keywords : fresh samples of Pinang Yaki (Areca vestiaria), Antioxidant, total flavonoids, FerricReducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP)

Abstract

Sea grass is a group of flowering plant, leaved, has its own roots and live in a shallow water.It usually used to capture sediment, compost, and as antioxidant. The use of sea grass onhuman needs to be conducted. Because of its potency and its component such as flavonoids, aresearch to identify kind of flavonoids in sea grass must be conducted. The aims of thisresearch are to isolate and identify flavonoids in sea grass (Syringodium isoetifolium) usingthin layer chromatography and spectrophotometer UV-Vis. Extraction was done withmaceration using ethanol 96% as solvent. Isolation was done by Thin Layer ChromatographyGF 6054, and n-butanol : acetic acid : water (BAA) (4:1:5). There are two spot after isolatewith TLC, the first is yellow spot with Rf 0,4 and second is red with Rf 0,8. Identification offlavonoids was done using spectrophotometer UV-Vis. Abstract

Crops Cassava (Manihot esculenta) contains carbohydrates, phosphorus, calcium, vitaminC, protein, iron and vitamin B1 can provide a healing effect on wounds. The content contained incassava able to give effect to the skin re-epithelialization of damaged tissues due to burns. Thisstudy aims to determine the effectiveness of the test extract tubers Cassava (Manihot esculenta) inthe dosage form of a cream with the concentration level of 2%, 4%, and 8% for burn woundhealing in rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus). Making cream formulation using cassava tuber extractoil phase in water and used as test animals 10 rabbits, divided into 5 treatment groups, namely, testthe cream treatment group, negative control group (basic cream) and a positive control group(Bioplacenton). Burns in the back with a diameter of 1.5 cm were treated and observed the healingeffects for 7 days. The results showed that from day-1 to day-7 observations burns suffereddiminution in diameter. It was concluded that the concentration of 2% cassava extract cream hashealing effect and increasing the concentration of 4% and 8% contained showed more effectiveand speed up the healing process.Keywords: cream, extract, cassava tubers, healing burns, rabbit

Abstract

This research aims to describe the antibiotics use in caesarean section patients due to its kind,route of administration, conformity of dose and frequency, and length of time given. It is adescriptive research. The data were collected in retrospective on 129 patients medical recordswhose received antibiotics, both prophylactic antibiotics and therapeutical antibiotics. Dataobtained shows that the third generation of cephalosporin which is ceftriaxone combined withmetronidazole (55.81%) is the most common kind of antibiotic that being used asprophylactic antibiotics and the most common therapeutical antibiotic that being used is thefirst generation of cephalosporin which is cefadroxil combined with metronidazole (53,59%).The prophylactic antibiotic’s route of administration is intravenously (IV) (100%) and oralfor therapeutical antibiotics (100%). The antibiotics doses that are being used bothprophylactic antibiotics and therapeutical antibiotics has been fulfilled the conformity of doseand frequency, with the longest duration of usage the prophylactic antibiotics is 1 day(80,92%).Keywords: antibiotics, surgical wound infections, caesarean section

Abstract

Stability is the ability of product to maintain its nature and characteristics similar to itsorigin during storage and use period. Furosemide is one of drugs product that works as diuretic.The aim of this research was to study the effect of temperature on furosemide stability. Themethod using in this research is factorial Complete Random design. There are two factors in thisresearch,factor A is temperature (40oC, 50 oC, and 60 oC) and factor B are period (60, 120 and180 minutes). There are three samples in this research. Analysis of furosemide content usingSpectrophotometer UV-Vis at λ = 271 nm. Obtained data were analyzed using spss ver. 20. Thedifferences between variable were statistical analyzed. The result shows that the decreasing offurosemide in tablet starts at temperature 50°Cafter60minutes heating for sample A and C.Sample B decrease at temperature 50°C after 120 minutes heating.Keywords: stability, furosemide, spectrophotometry UV-Vis

Abstract

Ambon banana weevil contains medicinal properties that are useful in the process ofwound healing. The purpose of this study is to formulate an ointment of Ambon banana(Musa paradisiaca var. sapientum) weevil extract and to test the ointment to heal open woundon the skin of male rat (Rattus norvegicus). This study is experimental descriptive in thelaboratory. Ambon banana weevil extracts used in the manufacture of ointment formulation.The number of tested animals used was 18, with 6 treatment groups, ie injuries withoutointment application, negative control, positive control, banana weevil ointment 10%, bananaweevil ointment 15%, and the banana weevil ointment 20%. All mice were injured with a8wound of 1.5 cm long. The wounds were applied with ointment three times daily. Observationwas conducted everyday from day 0 to day 8. All data was tested statistically using ANOVA(Analysis of Variant) followed bay LSD (Least Significant Difference) test. Qualitative datawere presented descriptively. The results showed that the banana weevil formulation meetsthe ointment test requirement according to Famakope Indonesia Edition III, i.e wounds werenarrowed, scabs were formed, and then wounds were closed. Statistical tests showed thatthere were significant effects on wound healing in white male rats, ie 4.004 > 2.45. Based onthe results of the study it can be concluded that the preparation of an ointment made frombanana weevil met the requirement, and concentration of 10%, 15%, and 20% gave effect tothe healing of open wounds on the skin of white male rats.Keywords: ointment, extract, Ambon banana weevil, wound healing, white male rats.

Abstract

Drug storage at heat air condition, high humidity room, and exposed with light lead todrug degradation. Temperature changes is one of external factor cause unstability ofpharmaceutical product.The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of temperature onnifedipin stability. The method using in this research is factorial Complete Random design.There are two factors. Factor A is temperature(40oC, 50 oC, and 60 oC) and factor B are period(60, 120 and 180 minutes). There are three samples in this research research. Analysis ofnifedipin content using Spectrophotometer UV-Vis. Obtained data were analyzed using spss ver.20. The differences between variable were statistical analyzed. The results shows that sample Aat temperature 60 oC, after 180 minutes treatment decrease to 86,47%, Sample B 86,43%, andsample C 85,66%, respectively. Abstract

Iced beverage syrup is processed in liquid form which has a variety of flavors andcolors. The dye banned methanyl yellow syrup used in drinks because it can cause poisoning,gastrointestinal disorders, and liver tissue damage if consumed in the long term. The purposeof this study was to prove the existence of a dye content of the beverage methanyl yellowsyrup that circulate in the city of Manado. Samples beverage syrup totaling 18 samples weretaken representing 8 districts and the central city of Manado, and then analyzed methanylyellow dye using color reaction, Thin Layer Chromatography and UV-Vis Spectrophotometer.The results showed that in all 18 samples beverage syrup is not identified either dye methanylyellow color reaction method, Thin Layer Chromatography method and UV-Visspectrophotometry. Abstract

This study aimed at finding out the effectivity of Salacca (Salacca zalacca [Gaertn]Voss) rind extract on blood sugar decrease of white male wistar (Rattus norvegicus L.)induced with sucrose. Completely randomized design method was used in this experiment.The subject of the experiment were 15 white male wistar which were divided into 3 (three)groups namely negative control group, treatment group with the dose of 150 mg extract/kgbody weight, and positive control group using glibenclamide 0.45 mg/kg body weight. Dataobtained from the examination of the fasting blood sugar were 30 minutes after inductionwith sucrose and at minute 15, 30, 60, and 120 after treatment was given. The data isprocessed using ANOVA and LSD test to compare between the negative control group,treatment, and a positive control. The analysis revealed a significant difference betweennegative control and treatment, negative control and positive control, but did not show asignificant difference between treatment groups with the positive control. The conclusion ofthis study is Salacca rind extract has an effect on blood sugar levels decrease of white malewistar induced with sucrose.Keywords: Salacca zalacca (Gaertn.)
