Abstract

Along with the increase of human mobility, the portable refrigerator becomes very important because it can be used to store goods or drinks to be durable or cooler. Therefore, a refrigerator using thermoelectric is an option. Thermoelectric fridge besides easy to carry anywhere is also easy maintenance, durable, more compact, lightweight, no heavy rotating components, no use of freon and small power. Refrigerator research with thermoelectric has been done with series and parallel electric circuits to know the effect of the circuit difference to the performance of refrigerators. This study uses a mini fridge with an overall dimension of 40.8 cm x 32.6 cm x53.8 cm and with 2 thermoelectric modules TEC1-12706 model. The electrical power used for each circuit is about 12 W. The data retrieval in the test uses DAQ MX 9714 NI data logger which is connected to the PC using LabView program. The results show that the test research with a water load of 1500 ml results in the temperature of the refrigerator room of about 22.54oC for the series and 23.10oC for the parallel. While the value of COP obtained with the series circuit is 0.45 and with the parallel circuit is 0.4. There is no effect of the form of the circuit on the performance of the refrigerator.

Abstract

Brake system is an important thing of vehicle. Many kinds of brake pads presents by each factory. Brake pads made of asbestos and non asbestos material. Each of them have excess and lack. This research aims to know the performance of each type of brake pads so that it can show the excess and lack of each type of product. As user, we have to choose a product which will be used in our vehicle cleverly. The research be done by giving variations in load of brake and weight of rider at a constant speed. The load of brake used spring with the variation are 2 kg, 3 kg and 4kg. While, weight rider are varied with 54 kg and 111 kg.Research result shows that increasing load of pull brake led to increasing the value of worn out and a decline in the braking time, while increasing weight of the rider causes an increase in the value of worn out and braking time at all types of brake pad products. In dry condition, the lowest wear is 1,37x10-4 mm/second in non asbestos pads and the highest wear is 3,088x10-5 mm/second in asbestos pads. While, the smallest braking time is 28,79 seconds in asbestos pads and the biggest is 64,26 seconds in non asbestos pads. In wet condition, the lowest wear is 2,422x10-5 mm/second in asbestos pads and the highest wear is 7,716x10-5mm/second in non asbestos pads. While, the smallest braking time is 29,46 seconds in non asbestos pads and the biggest is 62,71 seconds in asbestos pads.

Abstract

This paper describes how to simulate and control the two DoF inverted pendulum system, a dynamics of multibody system. The control strategy used is based on the conventional feedback method for the stabilisation of the two DoF inverted pendulum system. Simulation study has been done shows that conventional method i.e. pole placement control strategy is capable to control multi input and multi output of the two DoF inverted pendulum system successfully. The result shows that pole placement control strategy gives satisfactory response that is presented in time domain.

Abstract

The more demands of the consumers for quality product have made the industry develop product which can satisfy the customers. This study aimed at finding out the design process and the product development which observed the customer’s needs and wants, and developed the initial design to obtain the design which met customer’s wants and needs. This study employed QFD method to identify the Voice of Customers (VoC). VoC was obtained through questionnaire, distibuted to 90 customers from 3 UKMs, i.e. UD Tiga Puteri, and two competitor UKMs, UKM Debu and UKM Mia Bamboo Collection. The questionnare distribution was undertaken to find the lavel of the customer’s interest, so that the UKM needed to develop a new product which met the customers’ satisfaction. From the three studied design, the old design (A) and the two new designs (B and C), the new desigm of chair (C) was the most appealing to the customers, with the average grade of 4.26, and the least appealing was the chair with the design (A) with the average score of 3.54. As for the bamboo chair product development according to the priority for improvement were, respectively, finishing process with priority contribution of 5.7, the strength value with the priority contribution of 2.5, durability with priority contribution of 1.9, and the aspect with the lowest priority value was colour with the score of 0.9.

Abstract

AbstractBrake is one component of a motor vehicle that serves to slow or stop the study aims to determine the value of the wear of each brand of brake drum caused by variations in the speed of the motorcycle Honda Supra X125 on the braking load 6 kg. Brake that is used in this study there are three variations of the brand is a brand HONDA GENUINE PART, ASPIRA, and KOMACHI with variations at 40, 50 and 60 km / h and braking load 6 kg. The research was conducted in two phases, namely the field of testing and measuring brake wear in the lab. Metrology using a profile projector, in addition to the Rockwell hardness testing is also performed to determine the hardness of each brand of brake lining before and after testing higher speeds with the same braking load time, braking distance and the wear rate also increased. From the research results smallest brake lining wear occurs there at a speed of 40 km / h and braking load 6 kg. Genuine Parts for the Honda brand it wear amounted to 1.574 x 10 -5 mm / sec, while the brand Aspira it wear 8.47 x 10 -5 mm / sec and brands Komachi it wear 3.500 x 10 -5 mm / sec. Largest brake wear occurs at a speed of 60 km / h and braking load 6 kg. Genuine Parts for the Honda brand is equal to 2.373 x 10 -5 mm / sec, while the brand Aspira it wear 3.626 x 10 -5 mm / sec and brands Komachi it wear 3.701 x 10 -5 mm / sec.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of shot peening on stress corrosion cracking of a low carbon steel in ocean water environment. The dimension of specimens were prepared in accordance with the ASTM G39. The hardness testing was carried out using microvickers with 0,25 kgf load in the longitudinal direction. The corrosion cracking test was immersed into artificial sea water for about 7 months. The test shows that the pitting corrosion is dominantly nucleated at the metal film interface. The biggest pitting corrosion was occurred under the static loading of 70 for the specimens unpeened. The presence of pitting corrosion promotes stress corrosion cracking. The cracking has a intergranular branched morphology which is typical for the chloride cracking of low carbon steel

Abstract

Sacrificial anode protection is one type of corrosion protection used to inhibit corrosion rate. The sacrificial anode protection works by utilizing the potential difference between anode and cathode. This research aims to determine the effect of variation in the distribution of quantities and distribution of sacrificial anode aluminum to SS400 steel corrosion rate. The method of calculating the corrosion rate used is the weight loss test. The results of this test indicate that the more uniform distribution of the anode on the surface of the cathode the better the resulting protection will be. The best protection is produced by 4 pieces of sacrificial anode size of 0,5 x 4 cm with an average rate of corrosion rate of 0,1067 mm/year. Protection with 2 pieces of sacrificial anode size 1 x 4 cm resulted in corrosion rate with average value 0,1462 mm/year, while on protection of 1 victim anode with size 2 x 4 cm can produce protection with average value of corrosion rate 0,1677 mm/year. Equivalent distribution of numbers and distributed anodes can narrow the distance between the anodes so that the value of the material's resitivity is smaller and the electrons can be distributed evenly over the entire cathode surface. The corrosion that occurs in SS400 steel is a kind of uniform corrosion. It is seen from the size of the cavity that occurs on each side of the specimen after the immersion process.

Abstract

This paper reviews the potential and challenges for the application of biodegradable bone screw materials. Currently, in the field of medical sciences and biomedical engineering devices, a non-degradable bone screw is the most acceptable concept to repair a bone fracture. However, with the new intervention and development of advanced materials, either in polymer-based or metallic-based, opens a possibility to use a degradable bone screw. Magnesium-based material is one of the most promising candidates for biodegradable bone screw application, which is the main focus of this paper. Casting technologies for producing magnesium alloys will also highlighted.
