Abstract

Snake fruit (Salacca zalacca) is one of the typical fruits from Indonesia. Pondoh is one of the snake fruit species largely found in Yogyakarta. The kernels of snake fruit are wastes, but contains a lot of cellulose. Cellulose can be processed into methyl cellulose And be used as food additive. This study aimed to understand the optimized the optimizing synthesis of methyl cellulose through the concentration of NaOH, dimethyl sulfate and reaction temperature. The study was conducted by extracting cellulose using 4 % NaOH concentrations. Dehemicellulose and bleaching were done to dilute hemicellulose and lignin. The optimization of methyl cellulose was done using Response Surface Methodology with various concentrations of NaOH (10, 15, 20, 25, 30%), dimethyl sulfate (2, 3, 4, 5, 6 ml), and temperature (45, 50, 55, 60, 65°C). NaOH could change cellulose crystalline region and formed Na-cellulose. Dimethyl sulfate can be acted as substitution agent, while temperature controlling plays role to obtain appropriate conditions for reaction. The results showed that the use of NaOH concentration, dimethyl sulfate and temperature affected the degree of substitution, OHC and lightness. The addition of NaOH and dimethyl sulfate in producing methyl cellulose had more effect on the increasing of degree of substitution than temperature treatment. The optimum condition of methyl cellulose were 0.91% NaOH; 3.52 ml of dimethyl sulfate, at 46.51°C temperature.

Abstract

The availability of rainfall data is an important requirement in various activities. The limitations of observational data make the satellit precipitation product (SPPs) as an alternative. However, the data must be verified before being used. Verification methods are done by using matric statistic methods such as correlation, error and relative bias. Meanwhile, to see the ability of SPPs in detecting rainfall events, it uses a contingency table method. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the ability of SPPs against observation data. Evaluation of SPPs rainfall data is carried out based on a time scale, namely monthly, 10 daily, and daily. This research uses the data from 2018–2020. On a monthly and 10 daily scale, the CHIRPS data shows excellent linearity and rain detection ability. On a daily scale, IMERG shows better linearity than GSMaP and CHIRPS in every season, with moderate to strong correlation coefficients. However, these data tend to be underestimated with a very large bias. In terms of detecting daily rain, GSMaP tends to be better than CHIRPS and IMERG on every season based on the CSI index. However, in the dry season and transition II, the ability tends to be lower. In general, for the amount of rainfall intensity, the three SPPs data still has a fairly large error against the observation data eventhough the ability to detect rainfall is good.

Abstract

Abstract

In this paper, a thinned linear array with Cavity backed U-slot Patch has been investigated using the Genetic Algorithm to minimize peak sidelobe level and the number of antenna elements. One of the essential steps in the Genetic Algorithm method is a crossover, which uses the Paired Top Ten and Combined Top Five rules applied to the Cavity backed U-slot Patch antenna. The peak sidelobe level value is -18.63 dB with a array filling of 63.33% at the broadside angle using Combined Top Five rules. In Paired Top Ten, the peak sidelobe level value is -19.48 dB with a array filling of 70%. The two methods are still better as compared to a dense array. This study is essential in the development of radar technologies since it needs a low sidelobe level.

Abstract

The rate of train accidents in Indonesia is still high, mainly caused by humans related to fatigue while on duty. One of the factors that influence the level of fatigue is the duration of the previous sleep time which causes the level of alertness at work to decrease. This study aims to determine how significantly a person alertness performance decreases due to sleep deprivation using Sustained Attention Test. The study was conducted with laboratory experiments using a train simulator involving twelve participants aged 21.2 ± 0.92 years. The independent variable is the duration of sleeping time before driving with a duration of eight hours for normal conditions and a duration of two hours for sleep deprivation. The dependent variable is the parameter on the Sustained Attention Test which is tested before and after driving using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The results showed that there was a increase in the value of the Sustained Attention Test, especially the error and miss parameters which were significant due to sleep deprivation with an average significance of p-value less than 0.05 and increasingly significant with an average of p-value less than 0.01 after driving activity. This shows that sleep deprivation greatly affects the drivers performance while on duty.

Abstract

The stream of sustainable city-region pinpoints the need to build an enhanced life support system. While it is expected to provide adequate foods for the current and future generation, the agriculture sector is, nevertheless, facing a challenge to sustain amidst the current massive urban sprawl. The study presents a case study of Western Indonesia, which is considered as one of the vast growing regions. The growth of urban centres creates a centrifugal force, resulting in a leapfrog development towards the outskirts, which usually causes the loss of prime agricultural lands. Existing planning documents were also unable to control the sprawling phenomenon, which impact at the current setback of farmers’ well-being. Previous studies show that the ability of peri-urban agriculture to accommodate self-provision of food and to ensure adequate income for farmers appear as the most prominent motivation which encourage farmers to stay engaged in farming sectors (Adrianto et al., 2013). Overall, this study uses qualitative analysis to investigate opportunities to preserve agriculture land by find out the requirement of agriculture land for farmer’s well being. This research comparing the minimum wage of each province in Sumatera and the income of farmers from agricultural production, so it is known that farmers on the island of Sumatra must have an average land area of 0.85 hectares to achieve welfare.

Abstract

Moringa (Moringa oliefera) contains several antioxidant compounds such as quercetin and chlorogenic acid. However, antioxidants have weaknesses, namely that they are easily damaged by exposure to oxygen, light, high temperatures, and drying. One way to maintain and increase the stability of antioxidants is by encapsulation. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum formulation of quercetin nanoencapsulation of moringa leaf extract using chitosan and sodium tripolyphosphate (Na-TPP) using the ultrasonication method. Moringa leaf extract was obtained by repeated ultrasonication 1x 15, 3x15, and 5x15 minutes, frequency 24 kHz, and using alcohol 96%. The encapsulation process was carried out with three variable ratios of the amount of chitosan: Na-TPP added to 10 mL of Moringa leaf extract solution (F0), namely 5:1 (F1), 2:1 (F2), and 1:1 (F3). Test results for flavonoids as quercetin using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer showed that the Quercetin content in Moringa leaf extract ultrasonicated 5x15 minutes was 12.146%, the characterization of the Particle Size Analyzer (PSA) showed encapsulated particle sizes of 170.3 and 209.7 nm with polydisperse index <0 .5, the antioxidant activity test using the DPPH method showed that F0 was 61.4% and F2 had the highest antioxidant activity, namely 81.2%. Analysis of the morphology of nanoparticles using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) showed that the particles were spherically distributed evenly. Nanoencapsulation of Moringa leaf extract has resulted and an increase in the antioxidant activity of Moringa leaf extract after encapsulation using Chitosan-NaTPP, from 61.4% to 81.2% (F2).
