Abstract

Just like others, women undergone an imprisonment sentence also have specific women needs relating to biological, psychological condition, and the vulnerability as a woman. In Indonesia, the government commitment in fulfilling the special needs has started with the signing of a number of national and international regulations. The materialization of the commitment ismandated to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, in this case is the Directorate General of Corrections that has a job and function relating to criminal execution. To see the seriousness of the government in executing the commitment, the Center for Detention Studies did a surveyon the quality of correctional service in 12 women penitentiaries involving 385 women inmates and 35 women detainees in 4 (four) different periods in between 2013-2015. The result shows that the commitment to provide the women special needs has not yet been done well. The strong patriarchal paradigm considering that women are not supposed to commit any crime causes some components in women detention to be not gender-sensitive yet. The shape of the building and the facilitation pattern shows that women are not expected to become an occupant of detention facility. As the consequence, the specific needs of women spending their time in detention facility are neglected.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the productive, reproductive and community roles of fisherwomen in Muara Angke, Kecamatan Penjaringan, North Jakarta. The subjects of the study were two fisherwomen who work in the processing of green shells, as owners and as shellpeelerlaborer. The study explores women’s experience as breadwinners in the marine sector including the experience as a catch fisherwomen. The results showed that the role of fisherwomen in the productive and improvement of the family economy is very real,either directly or indirectly as a fisherwomen or processor of marine products. Three roles of fisherwomen in Muara Angke, sub-district Penjaringan, North Jakarta namely productive, reproductive, and social community. The fisherwomen took part in supplementingfamily income. In addition to performing reproductive roles related to domestic work, fisherwomen also have an active social role in social movements in order to maintain their living spaces and their spheres. The study found the tendency of women to abandon therole of capture fisherwomen when carrying out the role of biological reproduction.

Abstract

As a signatory to the Beijing Convention, Indonesia has the responsibility to live up to certain expectations, one of these is to safe guard human rights and the right to freedom of sexuality and access to sexual health. In this article we show this is not the case. In particular, because police are allowed to conduct raids on hotels and people are too scared to be open about their sexuality. As a result of being scared, people are not able to access sexual health care. Police raids are imposing a sexual morality agenda and the media is exploiting such raids by using horrific pictures, denigrating language maintaining stigmatization. If Indonesia is to get serious about HIV prevention, discrimination against GBV, police raids and violence against LGBT must stop.

Abstract

This paper investigates stereotype of first ladies and image being built during 2014 Indonesia presidential election. Wives of candidates in the election are highly accomplished as well as being graduated from universities, yet these facts are not exposed adequately in the media as part of public education on equality. Most of the time, they are being posited as faithful-partner and bold-supporter of their husbands/ partners. Interviews held by the media frequently narrate the drama within the house, family, and their romance. Their career and professionalism are being hidden from the public. Platform of empowerment and gender equality are highly cultivated, promoted, and campained by political-parties as well as NGOs, yet missed the wives to be involved. The capacity of the presidential candidate’s wives on gender, equality and women’s empowerment platforms designed by the political parties need to be promoted and scrutinized.

Abstract

The lack access in knowledge, education, training and economic factor has made women and girls become prone-victims of trafficking. Malaysian Govt has reported that 4.268 sex commercial workers are coming from Indonesia. They are mostly trafficked via the borders of Malaysia and Indonesia. To cut the chain of violence, it is necessary to cut the whole syndicate of traffickers instead of one trafficker. International diplomacy between Indonesia and Malaysia is hoped to foster the reduction of human trafficking, specifically women and girls as way to advocate international gender instruments.

Abstract

This paper investigates the alternative spirituality based on ecofeminism, meaning excavating the feminine spirituality before the birth of monotheism. Feminine spirituality exposed the female god, that is Goddess even before the pre-(his)tory. Faith on the existence of Goddess were not only existed within the Egypt, Greek, and the West but also in ancient Indonesia. Ecofeminist spirituality connected the spirit of the Nature, Wo-men corporeality and female sexuality.
