Abstract

This study aims to find a set of vehicles routes with the minimum total transportation time for pharmaceutical distribution at PT. XYZ in West Jakarta. The problem is modeled as the capacitated vehicle routing problem (CVRP). The CVRP is known as an NP-Hard problem. Therefore, a simulated annealing (SA) heuristic is proposed. First, the proposed SA performance is compared with the performance of the algorithm form previous studies to solve CVRP. It is shown that the proposed SA is useful in solving CVRP benchmark instances. Then, the SA algorithm is compared to a commonly used heuristic known as the nearest neighborhood heuristics for the case study dataset. The results show that the simulated Annealing and the nearest neighbor algorithm is performing well based on the percentage differences between each algorithm with the optimal solution are 0.03% and 5.50%, respectively. Thus, the simulated annealing algorithm provides a better result compared to the nearest neighbour algorithm. Furthermore, the proposed simulated annealing algorithm can find the solution as same as the exact method quite consistently. This study has shown that the simulated annealing algorithm provides an excellent solution quality for the problem.

Abstract

One of the most critical factors affecting iron pellet quality is the reduction in FeO (Iron Oxide) index in the final product. This study aims to predict factors affecting the FeO (Iron Oxide) of iron pellets and find out the contribution of each factor to reduce the pellets FeO (the ideal amount is between 0.4 to 0.6) using data mining techniques. When the FeO index's value is in the optimal range, the quality and price of pellets are higher. The data used in this study was collected from the pelletizing plant of Gol-E-Gohar in Sirjan, Iran, and the decision tree and regression algorithms are used in this analysis. Forty-five factors that can affect the FeO (Iron Oxide) index of the final product were studied, showing that the Magnesium Oxide and Airflow of the inlet fan of the indurating machine had the greatest impact on the FeO (Iron Oxide) of iron pellets.

Abstract

Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP) is known as an NP-hard problem. It is because CVRP problems are very hard for finding optimal solutions, especially in large instances. In general, the NP-hard problem is difficult to solve in the exact method, so the metaheuristic approach is implemented in the CVRP problem to find a near-optimal solution in reasonable computational time. This research uses the DPSO algorithm for solving CVRP with ten instances of benchmark datasets. DPSO implementation uses tuning parameters with the One Factor at Time (OFAT) method to select the best DPSO parameters. The outcome objective function will be compared with several PSO models proposed in previous studies. Statistical test using One Way Reputed Measure ANOVA is needed to compare algorithm performance. First, ANOVA uses for comparing’s results. Then, ANOVA is also used to test DPSO’s performance compared with DPSO-SA, SR-1, and SR-2 algorithm. The computational result shows that the basic DPSO algorithm not competitive enough with other methods for solving CVRP.

Abstract

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has changed how to work, learn, socialize, and many business sectors applied for the Work from Home (WFH) rule. This research aims to measure workers' mental and physical workload while working from home use Rating Scale Mental Effort and the physical workload was using calorie needs. The calculation for calories needs using physical condition of participant and food consumption in a day with Lifesum Application. Participants consisted of 40 males and 40 females. The result shows that the value of mental workloads on males and females with no different significance. But the average amount of female's work and mental workload effort is higher by 9.98 than men. More than 60% of male and female workers working from home belong to the category of heavy work seen from their calorie needs. According to the number of calories remaining, more than 70% of male and female workers have an excess amount of calories that is not suitable for worker health. This study suggested that employees need to improve the work system online to reach a healthy working system both mentally and physically. The relevant company can use the suggestion of this paper result in providing workload to employees during WFH.

Abstract

Accessibility to tourist destinations is an important component in a tourism system, especially for natural tourist destinations located in suburban areas. Good linkage of travel information and physical connections with local transportation services for intercity travel can facilitate more people to travel and promote national tourism destinations. This research takes the popular national tourism destinations and their public transportation service in Taiwan as a research object due to the unavailability of integrated public transport information service. Free Independent Travelers (FIT) demand is growing. This research aims to integrate intermodal public transportation information to support FIT by proposing a seamless way journey planner. In this scenario, the journey planner requires timetable data as input. The Connection Scan Algorithm is used to find the earliest arrival time routes at their destinations. This journey planner is built in PHP language and can complement the official tourism travel information website by Tourism Bureau, MOTC. Hence, the FIT could get the quickest routes to reach the destinations without compiling the public transportation information provided independently.

Abstract

Product quality has now become one of the main factors that every company must have to compete globally. One way is to reduce the number of defective products in the production process. This method is a continuous improvement effort made by PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia and companies engaged in the automotive sector that produces cars. One of the processes is packing roof panels whose output will be sent to importing countries where the number of requests per month is relatively high but still has a high defect rate. Based on production data and defect data for the January-February 2019 period, roof panel packaging production has a 1% -3% defect rate. This company must reduce the defect rate to achieve the company target of zero defects. This study aims to improve the quality of the packaging process by minimizing the number of defective products. This study uses the Six Sigma method with DMAIC phases. This method has several phases, namely, Define, Measure, Analysis, Improvement, and Control. Corrective action to reduce product defects based on 5W + 1H is to formulate a repair plan at the upgrade phase, namely by making SOPs spraying anti-rust and supervising operators who produce roof panel packaging. The improvement results reduced the DPMO value from 33,500 units to 2,050 units and increased the sigma level from 3.33 to 4.37. The DMAIC phase effectively controls and improves product quality levels in the automotive industry.

Abstract

Aside from human factors, tire blowouts and other tire imperfections are major contributors to the persistently high road accident rate. While tire imperfections are categorized as part of the mechanical factors affecting road accident, the tire maintenance personnel and the vehicle owners' human behavior plays a significant role in ensuring that accidents due to tire imperfections are minimized. Therefore, this study aims to determine the accuracy of the pressure gauges used by tire maintenance personnel, popularly called vulcanizers in Nigeria, and to determine the level of awareness of vehicle owners about the basic information that affects the safe use of tires on the road. The study consists of two stages. The first stage investigates the accuracy of the pressure gauges used by twenty vulcanizers in four different districts in Birnin Kebbi, the northwestern part of Nigeria. The second stage was an online survey regarding the tire maintenance behavior of 87 participants, who were formally educated from Diploma to Ph.D. level. The study's findings showed that about 25% of the vulcanizers do not use pressure gauges to measure air pressure during tire inflation, and less than 17% of the readings taken were accurate. Yet about 60% of the respondents believe that vulcanizers' pressure gauges are reliable and less than 30% of the respondents know that the expiring date of tires is four years in Nigeria. Therefore, there is an urgent need for proper awareness about tire usage and maintenance among the general population. It would also be appropriate to include such basic road safety information in the school curriculum at all levels.
