Transformation of technology has developed a new place for business activity known as social commerce, where Instagram has become the most popular social commerce. In promoting products through social media, mereks often use endorsers in product endorsement. Macro influencers who have broad audience range and unique self-presentation are proven to give positive impact towards product endorsement. The effectiveness leads to a new question, how do macro influencers present themselves in a product endorsement post? This research is conducted to answer that question. The method that is used in this research is a qualitative method to identify influencer self-presentation in product endorsement. Results of this research shows that influencers do not use a different self-presentation in product endorsement. The influencer put the endorsement strategy on their post. Another finding shows that mereks have some deals in self-presentation of influencers within a product endorsement post.

The study examined journalism practices covering Coronavirus disease (Covid-19), particularly online journalism in Solo, one of the metropolitan cities in Central Java Province of Indonesia. Solo is the first city in Indonesia to declare an extraordinary event due to the Covid-19 pandemic after coronavirus-linked deaths were reported. The notion of a dilemmatic situation, mainly in content selection, is the central perspective in this research. This research referred to news value theory and agenda-setting that used a qualitative approach method. The data were obtained through interviews with 20 journalists of online media in Solo. We also included non-participatory observation in the Solopos.com newsroom. The study suggests that, to some extent, journalists face a dilemma in choosing content to present news that concerns the public interest during the Covid-19 pandemic. The dilemma included determining interesting issues, attracting the public interest, and becoming meaningful to the readers, but not to endanger the personal safety and maintain professional sustainability because there is no news worthy of a life.

The research was focused on investigating the collaborative process between stakeholders and the differences in the two countries’ interests. This qualitative research was a case study with content analysis and descriptive techniques. The data collection techniques used were in-depth interviews with relevant stakeholders and document collection. The study results indicate that all stages have been carried out in the collaboration process, starting from face-to-face, building trust, negotiation and discussion, and commitment. However, the differences in the two countries’ interests are also clearly visible, such as the Government of Indonesia prioritising the placement and protection of migrant workers and prioritising the protection of users (employers) and International Domestic Migrant Workers (employees or Indonesian Domestic Migrant Workers) in Malaysia.

Current technological developments give games have quality and facilities that are not inferior to other media. One of them is that game players can interact with each other online so that the game is not only used for entertainment but also verbal and non-verbal interactions. Game users today are not only children but also parents who play online games. In fact, online games are also often played between parents or husband and wife. On the other hand, the increase in online gaming activity for the husband who acts as the head of the family can create problems with family communication patterns. This is because the husband has a powerful role in family members. Therefore, these conditions can affect the harmony of the family. This study aims to determine the relationship between playing online games and family communication patterns in terms of intensity, frequency, and motives in married adult men. The data were collected using a questionnaire distributed online to 100 respondents throughout Indonesia. The data obtained were then analysed using the SPSS program. The results showed that playing online games did not affect family communication patterns. Game players have different reasons according to the intensity, frequency, and motive of playing the game so that it does not have a negative effect on family communication patterns. Thus, it can be concluded that online games can positively impact family communication patterns if appropriately implemented.

This study sought to examine any form of criticism and resistance against the growing religious intolerance in Indonesian contemporary indie songs. The study of indie music is often marginalised in media and communication studies, even though the music itself is an effective form of media to convey socio-political messages. Indie music shows an increasingly crucial role within the map of cultural products in Indonesia mainly because it is considered an important means of conveying messages and alternative media for new Indonesian youth. Indie musicians cover sensitive issues within their lyric, including religious intolerance perpetrated by conservative Muslim groups in Indonesia. Through the discourse analysis method by Teun Van Dijk, this study found three forms of resistance discourse found in Indonesian indie music: a critique towards middle-class Muslims hypocrisy, rejection against the imposition of the sharia law, and the lament over the loss of humanity in religious practice. The research findings show that indie songs serve as a medium of resistance to a more secular, youthful audience against many issues seldom covered in mainstream media.

The development in Video on Demand (VOD) services technology has proven to increase the chance of binge-watching. However, early literature about binge-watching only focuses on health risk and their opinion on this topic. Therefore, this study intended to find aspects that affect binge-watching duration among college students. Theory of planned behaviour (TPB) that discusses the role of attitude and intention on an individual’s behavior was applied to find the affected aspect of binge-watching duration. Variables such as need for completion, personalised suggestions, and cliffhanger were analysed as moderators. Participants of this study were active Indonesian undergraduate students who were selected by applying snowball sampling method. Data were collected using online questionnaire using Likert Scale and terbuka questions on Google Form. The results indicate that TPB, need for completion, personalised suggestions, and cliffhanger correlated to binge-watching duration among undergraduate students.

Public participation in policymaking remains a significant challenge in Indonesia. Previous studies found that public participation in the policymaking process is still dominated by the elite (i.e. policymakers). This paper argues that a lack of well-informed public causes diminishing public involvement in policymaking. This study aims to fill the gap in public participation study in Indonesia, particularly the impact of public information on public participation. This study measures to what extent public information awareness and public information service may form public participation behaviour. As quantitative research, this study uses a survey as the primary method to collect data. The questionnaire was constructed through concepts and legal documents related to public information disclosure and public information services. The multi-stage proportional random sampling is applied with the number of samples in this study is 1,584 in 25 provinces (out of 34 provinces). The results show that public information awareness significantly impacts public participation, while public information service satisfaction does not affect public participation.

This systematic literature review aimed to analyse the studies on organisational communication, especially female leadership. The data collection was conducted on Google Scholar, Researchgate, and other reputable journals using the following keywords: “female leadership in organisational communication,” “women, leadership and organisation,” and “organisation, leadership and gender.” From these searches, fifty articles were investigated for the role of female leadership in organisational communication perspective. The result indicates that women can carry out their role as leaders in line with the organisational transformations. As leaders, women must be able to become the main communicator in the organisation. The results also reveal that from the perspective of organisational communication, many female leaders use democratic leadership styles. In terms of Role Theory, we found that female leaders can carry out their roles well, thus positively impacting the organisation.

The practice of obscuring news and advertising is still a problem in the Indonesian mass media. This research aimed to unravel journalistic ethics problems, especially those related to advertorials (advertisements delivered in an editorial style). The clear separation between news and advertisements is one of the two pillars of journalistic ethics, apart from separating facts and opinions to maintain journalistic independence. The research approach used was qualitative-descriptive, with data collection techniques through interviews (to journalists), observation and document searches. The results showed that most of the printed mass media studied tended to blur the boundaries between news and advertisements through various means, such as removing or shortening advertorial information.
