Abstract

Using crown as restoration to replace missing natural teeth is currently very popular. Successful restoration is therestoration that can last in a long time in the oral cavity. But sometimes there is a result of the use of restorativematerials that can’t be accepted by the body tissues. Therefore this study with a quasi experimental longitudinal designwith samples of 100 people user crown (porcelain, acrylic and metal crown). Prior using denture, the patient is given adental health education (DHE) and tartar cleaning and maintenance agreement. CPITN examination for signs ofinflammation (gingival discoloration, gingival bleeding, calculus and pocket depth) before and after the use of crown3, 6 and 12 months. Data were collected and analyzed by independent t-test. The results showed that there weresignificant differences in the results at month 3 to month 6, and month 6 to month 12 in acrylic and metal restoration(P <0.05). While the porcelain restoration is no significant difference in outcome between treatments at months 3, 6and 12 (P> 0.05). It was concluded that the porcelain restoration is a material that can be accepted by the body because it does not cause gingival inflammation.

Abstract

Objective : Gingival pigmentation (changes of the gingival color) from brown to black discoloration may occur due to exogenous and endogenous factor. Increased concentration of heavy metal in the blood has been known to be one of the exogenous factors that could lead to gingival pigmentation. Nuha is a sub-district in South Sulawesi which soil contains high concentration of nickel and other heavy metals. Heavy metal contaminations in the water, soil, or air have detrimental effects on human health, particularly the oral cavity.Material and Methods : This study proposed to determine the association between duration of residence with gingival pigmentation to the community of Nuha District of East Luwu society. This study was a descriptive observational with cross-sectional study design. Results : The population in this study was all of the Nuha residents. The sampling technique used was simple two-stage cluster sampling. Gingival pigmentation in this study was measured using Dummet Oral Pigmentation Index (DOPI).Conclusion : The data obtained showed significant association between duration of residence with maxillar and mandibular gingival pigmentation in the residents of Nuha District of Luwu Timur. p-value for maxillar DOPI was 0.003 and for mandibular DOPI was 0.000.

Abstract

Prosthetic rehabilitation is the rehabilitation process of masticatory and esthetics function for patients missing teeth and alveolar bone by means of manufacture and installation of dentures. The prosthetic rehabilitation commonly used include denture adhesive bridge, fixed-fixed bridge, as well as telescopic overdenture. Adhesive bridge is bridge denture consisting of single pontic and two retainer wings attached to the abutment using cement or resin. Fixed-fixed bridge is a bridge denture with rigid connectors on both ends of the pontics, whereas the telescopic crown Overdenture is a removable denture that uses linked precision on the original tooth in the form of primary coping on abutment and secondary coping on the denture. To expose the procedures of prosthetic rehabilitation using adhesive bridge and fixed-fixed bridge on the maxilla and telescopic crown Overdenture on mandible. Male patients aged 32 years came with complaints of difficulty to chew food because he had lost some teeth behind. In the maxilla, teeth are lost in the region of 15 and 16 performed by making the fixed-fixed bridge with abutment teeth 14 and 17. Loss of teeth in the region of 26, performed the manufacture of adhesive bridge with a box preparation on the occlusal 25 and 27. In the mandible, tooth loss in the region of 36,37,46, and 47 performed manufacture of telescopic crown Overdenture with primer coping on the teeth 35.38, 45, and 48 and the secondary coping on a metal frame. Prosthetic rehabilitation especially in the case of loss of back teeth is very important because with the denture patients can chew properly and maintain the stomatognathic system.

Abstract

Cracked tooth syndrome is usually found in daily dental practice. The incidence ofcracks teeth tends to increasing. People are living longer and keeping their teethlonger. As a consequence, people have more complex restoration and endodontictreatment, leaving teeth more prone to cracks. In addition, stressful lives may provokeunconscious habits such as clenching and bruxism which can induce cracks in teeth. However, many cracks teeth can be saved nowadays when the characteristic signsand symptoms of cracked tooth syndrome can be diagnosed earlier in itsdevelopment

Abstract

Dowel crown restoration is a restoration which is often performed by dentists in daily practice. Dental crowns requirethe dowel crown restoration due to several factors including the crown damage cause has been very severe. Dowelcrown restoration usually consists of two parts, namely dowel with core and crown restoration on it. The core must behigh enough in cervico-occlusal direction to obtain sufficient retention for the attachment of the crown. In some casesthis condition cannot be fulfilled because the cervico-occlusal distances are too short resulting from extrusion of thetooth. This paper is reporting a case of management tooth maxillary second premolar with limited cervico-occlusaldimension with dowel crown restoration in one unit. The technique was a combination of direct and indirect method. The result was an accurate and retentive dowel crown, and has a good aesthetic.

Abstract

A retrospective study has been performed for odontogenic cyst at Ear, Nose andThroat-Head and Neck Department, Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University, Dr.Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital during period of 1999-2008. Eighteen cases ofodontogenic cysts were found in age interval of 5-40 year and dentigerous cyst wasfound in young age of 5 and 8. Predominantly affected female than male with ratio2.6:1 shown in 16 cases of dentigerous cyst found in female than 2 cases in male and, mostly found in maxilla 16 cases (88.8%) than mandible 2 cases. The most commonclinical features are alveolar bone swelling, pingpong ball phenomena slowlyenlarged without pain. Radiographic appearance of dentigerous cyst revealedradiolucency shadow with radioopaq mass inside the capsula associated withunerupted tooth in 16 cases (88.8%), while the radicular cyst showed radiolucencyaround the periapical area nonvital tooth without radioopaq appearance inside thecapsula in 2 cases (11,2 %). CT scan examination revealed formation of dentigerousand radicular cyst as similar. The managements of odontogenic cysts wereenucleation of the cyst in 17 cases and marsupialisation in 1 case, with good result.

Abstract

Dental implants, or completely said as dental implant bodies, function as analogues of tooth roots, achieving aunion directly with jawbone following their insertion into a prepared socket in the bone. Implant system have threebasic components, namely the dental implant body that is lying in the jawbone, abutment that lies on the jawboneand the prosthesis. Dental implants may stabilize a removable prosthesis, complete or partial overdentures, and orsupport and stabilize a fixed prosthesis. In designing implant-supported removable prostheses, there are three formsof anchorage frequently used, namely bar/sleeve (clip) joints which links two or more implants, ball/cap anchoragesapplied individually to two or more isolated implants, and magnets/magnetic keepers. Implant-supported fixedprosthesis is either screwed to or cemented on to the abutment.

Abstract

In making removable denture, some aspects must be considered: retention, stabilization, support, comfort, andaesthetic. Retention plays an important role in the success of a removable denture. Retention can be obtained from theundercut area, or friction of the denture’s components to the abutment or abutment. Clasp as a retainer, both of metalcasting and wire have been frequently used in the removable partial denture. The clasp has some shortcomings in itsusing, namely color of the metal can sometimes interfere with the aesthetic of the wearer and cannot be placed on teeththat have experienced extensive caries. Telescopic crown as retainer has several advantages, which can be used oncrown of abutment that has experienced extensive caries or tooth that will be an abutment but have endodontic-treated.On telescopic crowns, retention is obtained from the friction between the primary crowns against secondary crown thatserves as a retainer. This case report describes two cases of a removable denture with a metal framework using atelescopic crown on one tooth that serves as a retainer in the case of one-side free-end edentulous.
