Abstract

This study was an observational, cross sectional study with purpose toanalyze the effect of hotz plate appliance to the development ofmaxillary arch of patients with cleft lip and palate. Twelve sampleswith cleft lip andpalate, age under 2 years were recruitedfrom twodifferent hospitals. Six samples used hotz plate appliance wererecruited from Rumah Sakit Hasan Sadikin, Bandung while the othersix as control didn't use hotz plate appliance were recruited fromRumah Sakit Haji, Makassar. The result showed that minor maxillaryarch was similar in size with major maxillary arch of patient with hotzplate appliance, however, patient without hotz plate appliance, showed longer minor maxillary arch than major maxillary arch. It canbe concluded from this study that hotz plate appliance had an effecton the palatal development of patient with complete unilateral cleft lipand palate and also prevented the collapse of minor maxillary arch toeither anterolateral or anteromedial.

Abstract

Some research stated that coffee may act as an antioxidant, but has not mentioned concentrations can distinguish the production of antioxidants. One of the important antioxidant roles in preventing various diseases is GSH. The researchis intended to analyze the expression of antioxidant GSH of coffee beans in vitro. Furthermore, the culture ofperipheral blood monocytes of healthy people as much as 6 cc, mixed with the anticoagulant heparin. Ficoll-Hypaquecentrifugation and suspended in RPMI 1640 medium Buffy coat separated, washed, resuspended. Cells were placedon plate 96-well microtiter of 8 x 105 cells/well, and incubated. Then added RPMI, incubated and lymphocytesdiscarded. After washing, complete medium was added and incubation. Monocytes reacted with coffee with variousconcentrations (4 groups) and incubated 18 hours. GSH then analyzed by immunocytochemistry method. GSH cellsexpressing brown and counted under a light microscope (400x). The results indicated that a concentration of 3 g coffeebrewed in 300 mL of hot water has the greatest ability to increase GSH. It was concluded that coffee can improveGSHexpression on monocytes were exposed to DMBA, and the higher the concentration of the coffee bean, the higherthe expression of GSH.

Abstract

Patients with periodontal disease can lead to severe tooth mobility so often complains of pain when eating, decreased chewing ability and functional occlusion. Tooth mobility is a movement in a horizontal or vertical direction and one of the most unpleased effects from periodontal disease. Basically, tooth mobility is not a disease that requires treatment, but it is a symptom of periodontal tissue morphology changes, so it became a challenge for dentists in making decisions to maintain proper care of the teeth. Recent studies improved the use of periodontal splint with fiber reinforced composite (FRC) or fiber composite may lead to a long-term prognosis of teeth mobility due to periodontal disase. The case report describes treatment of chronic periodontitis patients with splinting fiber composites as a method for stabilization of the lower anterior teeth providing aesthetics, comfort, improved functionality occlusion, mastication and a good prognosis.

Abstract

The use of fixed partial denture (FPD) nowdays has been very popular in our society. This is due to their smaller size, and more convenient to be used and fixed in themouth. The choice of nickel chromium (NiCr)as the metal component of FPD isbased on its character of corrosion proof, light, and hard. However, nickel containedcan be allergic. Allergic reactions reported, vary from oedema of tongue and lip, andmouth lining until anaphylaxis. These reactions are related to the pattern andcorrosion modes, followed by the release of metalic ions like nickel into the oralcavity. This depends not only on the composition of metal, but also the temperatureand pH of the oral cavity. Some studies have reported the use of NiCr might causeinflammation reaction of periodontal tissue.

Abstract

Objective:The periapical dental radiography using bisect technique needs a special skill in managing autistic patient. Autism is one of the characteristics from handicapped children with behavioral syndrome caused by neurological disturbance characterized by behavioral disturbance, communication, and social interaction difficulties occurringin the first three years of the children life.Problems occurringin dental radiography in such children make the bisect technique necessary. Dentist and the operator need to do special preparations to optimally create the dental radiograph using two approaches, i.e. nonpharmacological and pharmacological approaches. Methods:In this case, dental imaging using bisect technique for autistic children is performed using modified technique for periapical and occlusal imaging as well as nonpharmacological approach.Result:Theradiograph examination for autistic children using modified technique can be done successfully. Conclusion:Dental radiographin autistic children canbe performed by modifying periapical radiograph using bisecting technique with nonpharmacological approach.

Abstract

Tongue cleaning is a simple and quick procedure to eliminate organisms and debris on tongue. Tongue cleaning canbe performed by using a tongue scraper. This study was conducted to determine the correlation between the index ofOHI-S and tongue coating, and explain the knowledge of oral hygiene and a tongue scraper tongue at an orphanage inMakassar. Subjects were children of orphanage Ashabul Kahfi, who attend and agree to all the procedures. Dentalhygiene assessed by OHI-S index and examination of the tongue by tongue coating index. A total of 24 boys and 16girls were given questionnaires before and after counseling. The results showed no significant correlation between thetwo indices (p=0.382). Distribution of the questionnaire answers showed increased correct answers after givingcounseling. However, based on the level of education and gender, showed no significant differences in knowledgeregarding the cleanliness of the tongue and a tongue scraper (p=0.858, p=0.486). Significant differences were also seen in the comparison group who use and do not use a tongue scraper. It was concluded that there was no significantcorrelation between OHI-S index and tongue coating, but counseling would increase knowledge of the child orphanageAshabul Kahfi although there was no difference in knowledge regarding the cleanliness of the tongue and a tonguescraper based on education level and gender.

Abstract

Generally, the treatment of immediate partial denture has the objective of enhancingthe aesthetics of the condition and position of protrusive anterior teeth that wouldimprove the appearance. Case study was carried out on 16-years-old female patientwith overjet far from normal that obstruct closing of the lips. The patient’s profilelooks convex with the labial maxilla protrudes and a clear undercut in anteriorregion. The diagnosis of patient was dentoalveolar protrusion along with multiplediastema, malocclusion class II division I of skeletal relation that caused by localizedaggressive periodontitis. The treatment was construction of immediate partial denturewith immediate extraction of maxillary anterior teeth accompanied with interseptalalveolectomy. Control was done 24 hours, three days, and seven days after insertion.Aesthetics, occlusion, articulation, retention dan stabilization looked very good.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of alkaline peroxide denture cleanser on the color stability of thermoplasticnylon denture base. This experimental laboratory research with pretest posttest with control group design used 24specimens of thermoplastic nylon (valplast) sized 20x20x2 mm as samples. Twelve specimens immersed in alkalineperoxide denture cleanser solution and the other twelve specimens immersed in aquadest as control. Time intervalsubmergence once for 1 hour, 8 hours and 12 hours each consisting of 4 specimens in alkaline peroxide solution and 4specimens in control solution. They were immersed in 8-hours time interval submergence times 7 by changing thesolution of alkaline peroxide every 8 hours, using 4 speciments for each solutions. Using ANOVA and independent ttest,it showed no significant color changes on thermoplastic nylon resin after immersed in alkaline peroxide solution  based on the time interval. However, there was significant color difference on the thermoplastic nylon resin immersed in alkaline peroxide and control solution at second to seventh interval of 8 hours immersed time with increase of time immersing. It was concluded that thermoplastic nylon resin have good stability although immerse in alkaline peroxide denture cleanser
