Abstract

Background: Numerous studies have shown an effect of rapidly spreading SARS-COV-2 on combined anxiety-depressive disorders and maladjustment syndrome occurrences. Objective: To determine the primary medical students’ reactive anxiety level and the final scores of their educational progress in distance learning during the SARS-COV-2 pandemic. Materials and Methods: The study involved 824 students at medical universities in Saratov and Moscow. The assessment of the reactive anxiety level was carried out according to the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, STAI; the average score of students' academic performance was calculated according to the data of the technological platform "1C: Enterprise" version 8.4.1. The survey was completed during distance learning in May 2020. The quality of distance learning was compared to a similar score for 2019, when students were trained in a traditional way. Statistical analysis was conducted using Statistica 6.0. Results: It was shown the presence of moderately severe disorders among the primary medical students according to the average score of reactive anxiety (43.28 ± 12.85), that expressed more in females s (p<0.05), After distance learning, lasting 25% of the whole course, the overall performance score in theoretical knowledge did not change significantly (p>0.05) but the practical skills suffered much especially in time trend (p<0.05). Novelty: It was found that a high level of the reactive anxiety negatively affects the students' adaptive capabilities and the education quality. The specificity of programs at different faculties can determine the state of the students' psychological status. Findings:Timely transition to online classes during pandemics helps to preserve the students' mental well-being and the quality of the educational process. Abstract

Utilization of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) provides increasing demands on decreasing traffic congestions, transportation safety, and environmental problems as well as increasing transportation capacity. Over the past few years, one of the most disruptive and transformational technologies, blockchain technology, has emerged. As a result of offering more security, privacy, traceability, transparency, and decentralized authority, the utilization of blockchain technology in ITS have increased drastically. Despite this increase, there is a lack of a good understanding of what are the Critical Success Factors (CSF) to support IT providers for designing their products properly, and to provide industry leaders to focus on the main drivers of their outstanding projects. This study aims to explore and analyze CSFs that can facilitate the success of blockchain-based ITS, which has so far been neglected despite its remarkable relevance. In doing so, eleven primary studies, identified as a result of conducting a systematic literature review (SLR), were taken as a baseline to develop the model of CSFs. Additionally, since the number of existing studies related to CSFs for blockchain and ITS are limited, an expert panel was formed to evaluate and contribute to the model. Abstract

Teaching research methodology is one of the core components of various degree programs. Scholarship around teaching research methodology is beginning to grow with most work concentrated in Social Work, Health, Social Science, and limited work in the area computing education. This paper presents a reflection on adopting a student centred approach towards teaching research methodology course to three different groups of fourth level university students. In this paper the strategies for facilitating deep learning in teaching research methods and research methods in the Information Systems domain will be discussed. In addition, reflections on the use of a student centred approach, student experiences and strategies used. The experiences and strategies relate to facilitating deep learning. Abstract

The selection of the sample in a survey constitutes a significant parameter for the research process. A disagreement of opinions is observed in the field of management between researchers regarding which sample fabricates better results in surveys administered in public organizations. Some of them support that only the senior levels of the management hierarchy should participate in (Elite Orientation Model), while others support the participation of representatives from all levels (Multiple Informants Model). A questionnaire was administered to people from the three levels of Hellenic Sport Federations (HSFs) management hierarchy (employees, directors/managers, Board members) in order to investigate their perception about the degree to which excellence processes (enablers / results) were implemented. The purpose of this paper was to investigate which is the most appropriate model, regarding the selection of participants in studies about the administration /management of public organizations. Statistically significant differences regarding their perceptions for the topic under investigation were revealed, which were directly related to their level in the hierarchy. Abstract

The objective of this paper is to identify the relationship between the dimensions of performance motivation and value preferences of project managers in large companies. To examine the relationship, it was first necessary to find out what the value system of project managers is and what their motivational profile is. The research took the form of a questionnaire survey in large Czech companies, which belong to CZ-NACE C. Standardized questionnaires were used for data collection. The PVQ questionnaire was used to determine the value system and the LMI questionnaire was used to determine the motivational profile. Data were evaluated by using descriptive statistics and relationships were evaluated by using Person's correlation coefficient. Student's t-test was used to verify statistical significance. It was found that the analyzed values in the set of respondents are almost the same, all analyzed values are perceived by the respondents as significant. The most represented value among the respondents is benevolence and the least represented is tradition. We identified identical findings in the case of analysis of performance motivation. Of the four dimensions of motivation examined, the project managers addressed confidence in success to be the most important. A statistically significant relationship was found between commitment and power and success, between flexibility and stimulation, universalism and benevolence, between self-control and power, success, conformity and safety, and between confidence in success and power, success and stimulation. Doi: 10.28991/esj-2021-01282 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

Problems and modern tendencies in the field of creating complex models of combat operations are considered. The systematic analysis of existing models of combat operations is carried out and their conformity to modern conditions and development of military art is defined. Features of combat operations models development when using means of simulation modelling are exposed with the use of a method of mathematical simulation. The structure of the complex simulation modelling of actions of forces is formed. The composition of standard models of components of the security and defence sector is determined and the sphere of their application is outlined, which allows controlling the unit in different situations at the stage of choosing decisions at different levels of management. The main directions of the development of modelling complexes and systems are determined. The practical implementation of these approaches, along with the implementation of the principles of cost-effectiveness of models, their coordinated development, system compatibility of models for different purposes and large-scale use of proven commercial decisions will create a cluster of combat operations models, which is a real tool for effective decision-making on troops management and allows laying down technical requirements for the development of a modern complex of simulation modelling. Doi: 10.28991/esj-2021-01294 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

For channel codes in communication systems, an efficient algorithm that controls error is proposed. It is an algorithm for soft decision decoding of block codes. The sufficient conditions to obtain the optimum decoding are deduced so that the efficient method which explores candidate code words can be presented. The information vector of signal space codes has isomorphic coherence. The path metric in the coded demodulator is the selected components of scaled regions. The carrier decision is derived by the normalized metric of synchronized space. An efficient algorithm is proposed based on the method. The algorithm finds out a group of candidate code words, in which the most likely one is chosen as a decoding result. The algorithm reduces the complexity, which is the number of candidate code words. It also increases the probability that the correct code word is included in the candidate code words. It is shown that both the error probability and the complexity are reduced. The positions of the first hard-decision decoded errors and the positions of the unreliable bits are carefully examined. From this examination, the candidate codewords are efficiently searched for. The aim of this paper is to reduce the required number of hard-decision decoding and to lower the block error probability.

Abstract

The correct real estate property price estimation is significant not only in the real estate market but also in the banking sector for collateral loans and the insurance sector for property insurance. The paper focuses on both traditional and advanced methods for real estate property valuation. Attention is paid to the analysis of the accuracy of valuation models. From traditional methods, a regression model is used for residential property price estimation, which represents the hedonic approach. Modern advanced valuation methods are represented by the artificial neural network, which is one of the soft computing techniques. The results of both methods in residential property market price estimation are compared. The analysis is performed using data on residential properties sold on the real estate market in the city of Nitra in the Slovak Republic. To estimate the residential property prices, artificial neural networks trained with the Levenberg-Marquart learning algorithm, the Bayesian Regularization learning algorithm, and the Scaled Conjugate Gradient learning algorithm, and the regression pricing model are used. Among the constructed neural networks, the best results are achieved with networks trained with the Regularization learning algorithm with two hidden layers. Abstract

The paper deals with the topic of corruption that has been understood as a global social problem since the 1990s. Its theoretical background is rooted in the theory of social constructivism. Social constructivism highlights the social strategy in which increased social discourse about a particular topic implies and reflects a growing interest of the society in the topic to arouse a robust awareness of the issue as a social problem. It analyses academic journals and conference paper proceedings that appear in a well-known database of academic journals and texts, namely in Web of Science. The research follows PRISMA methodology and it was conducted as an analysis of the terms and collocations that are connected to the issue of corruption with the aim to identify relevant research papers which have appeared in Web of Science since 1995. The idea behind this analysis was not only to identify the journal papers and papers published as conference proceedings but to compare the results geographically with well-known officially acknowledged state and government data dealing with the issue of corruption, and then to look for connections between these two areas, i.e. academic and governmental data. The results show significant differences between post-communist countries versus the so-called West regarding how they present information about corruption in their academic discourse. Despite the fact that the West supports the East in its fight with corruption economically, it is not reflected sufficiently and adequately in the relevant academic discourse. Abstract

The PISA tests are considered as a quality measurement for education. If it is so, then their high results might influence the proportion between blue and white collars. As the intellectually demanding functions can be more easily executed over the internet, in a long term, this fact should be reflected in a growing proportion of e-working. To study this assumption, we examine adopting e-working within selected thirty-five countries. Research questions were formed as follows: Is there a demonstrable influence of favorable PISA results on the overall rates of e-working in certain states? Is it possible to sustain different components with e-working? Can appropriate e-working legislation contribute to the overall rates of e-working at a state’s level? Our study adopted Spearman’s Rho correlation using 4 numerical variables to measure the strength of association between pairs of variables – the proportion of e-working and four country’s PISA averages in Mathematics, Science, Reading and Financial Literacy. Its results indicate a positive correlation: the probability of e-working increases with the PISA results growth. Further, Qualitative Content Analysis was used. Based on our data e-working will not go away and it is time to update law on e-working. Governments should formalize rights and duties. Face-to-display work is likely to be an unstoppable evolution at workplace. These components affected higher e-workability. These results draw attention to how e-working is becoming major element in common life with some challenges and difficulties and that we need to study these two influencer factors in order to optimize its arrangements. Doi: 10.28991/esj-2021-01277 Full Text: PDF
