Abstract

The major purpose of this paper is to determine the opportunities and challenges relating to successful innovation management in SMEs in German and Slovakia. The objective and the subjective stances to research comprise three interlinking philosophies: epistemology, ontology and axiology. For this study the major design elements are the explanatory and the exploratory approaches and a case study is the selected research strategy. In order to answer the research problem, numerical and textual data is gathered. The empirical research studies revealed significant cultural influence on innovation management and related organisational change associated with it. It also highlighted substantial differences between success and failure factors in SMEs and large companies and there were implications that formal innovation management was less important from SMEs than for large companies. This research identified key innovation management success factors for SMEs and made three new findings, which add to the current knowledge: innovation circles were an effective innovation management approach to generating and developing ideas and getting innovation to market quickly; government agencies that encourage firms to collaborate effectively enhance the level and success of innovation; SMEs and large companies have distinctly different rankings of barriers to innovation and small and micro firms are more effective in original product innovation and speed to market than medium sized companies.

Abstract

Application of renewable energy sources is a relevant area of energy supply for urban infrastructure. In 2019, the share of energy produced by such sources reached 11% (for solar energy) and 22% (for wind energy) of the total energy produced during the year. However, these systems require an improvement in their efficiency that can be achieved by introducing electric vehicles. They can accumulate, store and transfer surplus energy to the city’s power grid. A solution to this problem is a smart charging infrastructure. The existing studies in the field of charging infrastructure organization for electric vehicles consider only models locating charging stations in the city or the calculation of their required number. These calculations are based on socio-economic factors and images of a potential owner of an electric vehicle. Therefore, the aim of this study is to develop a methodology for determining the location of charging stations and their required number. The calculation will include the operating features of the existing charging infrastructure, which has not been done before. Thus, the purpose of this article is to research the operation of the existing charging infrastructure. This will provide an opportunity to develop approaches to the energy supply of charging infrastructure and city’s power grid from renewable energy sources. The article presents an analysis of data on the number of charging sessions during the year, month and day. Abstract

Internet or Web consists of a massive amount of information, handling which is a tedious task. Summarization plays a crucial role in extracting or abstracting key content from multiple sources with its meaning contained, thereby reducing the complexity in handling the information. Multi-document summarization gives the gist of the content collected from multiple documents. Temporal summarization concentrates on temporally related events. This paper proposes a Multi-Document Temporal Summarization (MDTS) technique that generates the summary based on temporally related events extracted from multiple documents. This technique extracts the events with the time stamp. TIMEML standards tags are used in extracting events and times. These event-times are stored in a structured database form for easier operations. Sentence ranking methods are build based on the frequency of events occurrences in the sentence. Sentence similarity measures are computed to eliminate the redundant sentences in an extracted summary. Depending on the required summary length, top-ranked sentences are selected to form the summary. Experiments are conducted on DUC 2006 and DUC 2007 data set that was released for multi-document summarization task. The extracted summaries are evaluated using ROUGE to determine precision, recall and F measure of generated summaries. The performance of the proposed method is compared with particle swarm optimization-based algorithm (PSOS), Cat swarm optimization-based summarization (CSOS), Cuckoo Search based multi-document summarization (MDSCSA). Abstract

Hospital is one of the most complex organization with highly intensive interaction between stakeholders (patients, nurses, doctors, staff, etc.). In the operation of a hospital, the use of Information technology has been proven to improve effectiveness and efficiency. However, in the majority of cases, the processes to achieve the Strategic Objectives through implementation of Information Technology are full of challenges. Based on the case study in Dharmais Cancer Hospital, there are many symptoms that are identified by this study and lead to 4 issues, namely: lack of ownership from Business users, lack of alignment between business strategy and IT strategy, lack of awareness to use IT as a tool for competitive advantage, and low quality of IT operation performances. In order to solve the issues and support the achievement of Strategic Business Objective through IT, an Enterprise Architecture approach can be used to develop baseline architecture, identify the target architecture, finding the gap, and use the gap as recommendation to solve those issues. The methodology chosen is TOGAF ADM, based on its focus on processes and its flexibility to combine artifacts and approaches that are most suitable for the case. This study develops 7 recommendations to Strengthen Business area of organization, 5 recommendations to Align IT plan with Business Strategy, 16 recommendations to Implement several IT solutions as Competitive Advantage for organization, and 8 recommendations to provide higher performances by enabling Service Management approach for IT Operation. Abstract

The link between reverse logistics and logistics is being increasingly noted by logistics experts and researchers globally, especially in manufacturing pharmaceutical companies. This has led to the examination of reverse logistics challenges in manufacturing pharmaceutical companies. The main objective was to examine reverse logistics challenges in manufacturing pharmaceutical companies in the City of Tshwane (South Africa). The study aimed to find approaches to deal with the challenges of reverse logistics such as gatekeeping, managerial implications, technology, waste elimination, transportation, and product recalls within the industry. The study was empirical, and a quantitative approach was used. Furthermore, data analysis was conducted by using the Stata V13 statistical software where a descriptive analysis was employed. Questionnaires were posted via SurveyMonkey to the staff at fifty pharmaceutical companies. This resulted in a total of 127 respondents, which provided a response rate of 51%. The findings indicated that manufacturing pharmaceutical companies face a variety of challenges; such as lack of skills and skills transfer, transport, and gatekeeping (amongst others), when dealing with reverse logistics. Abstract

The objectives of this study were two-fold. First, to analyze multitasking activities in Knowledge Intensive Business Services (KIBS) and the employees’ perception of multitasking effects on individual and organizational performance. Second, to explore associations between the perception of multitasking and individual Time Management Orientation (TMO). The research study employed an online survey methodology. The questionnaire contained 56 questions organised in four groups. Methods of relationship analysis and regression analysis were applied to get answers to the research questions. The study indicated that the employees of surveyed KIBS were strongly engaged in multitasking activities in their workplaces. The informants estimated that on average they worked on nine different tasks per day. Additionally, their working days were filled with interruptions, caused either by external factors or self-interruptions. The majority of respondents also admitted that the ability to multitask was considered their job requirement, thus supporting the findings of other studies that KIBS do prefer multitasking employees. The effects of multitasking on individual and organizational performance were perceived ambiguously by the respondents. Meanwhile, the majority of respondents (above 70%), regardless of the level of polychronicity, admitted that they were able to make good decisions and concentrate better when they worked on one task at a time. The data analysis confirmed the findings reported earlier that individuals with more polychronic TMO did perceive multitasking as having more positive than negative effects both at the individual and organisational levels. Human multitasking has been widely researched in such fields as medicine, command and control, aviation, information technologies, but there is little detailed empirical evidence on multitasking in KIBS such as management consulting, research and development, architecture, engineering services, design, and advertising. Our research provides a fresh view on the human aspects of KIBS companies which can be of help in addressing the related managerial issues. The setting of the optimal number of tasks, task allocation considering employees’ individual differences, designing of workflows require further research as this may give the KIBS company managers guidelines and tools for organizing productive multitasking towards enhanced work efficiency and effectiveness and employees’ well-being.

Abstract

Cloud computing is one of the frontier technologies, which over the last decade has gained a widespread commercial and educational user base. OpenStack is one of the popular open source cloud management platforms for establishing a private or public Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IAAS) cloud. Although OpenStack started with very few core modules, it now houses nearly 38 modules and is quite complex. Such a complex software bundle is bound to have an impact on the underlying hardware utilization of the host system. The objective is to monitor the usage of system resources by OpenStack on commodity hardware. This paper analyzes the effect of OpenStack on the host machine's hardware. An extensive empirical evaluation has been done on different types of hardware, at different virtualization levels and with different flavours of operating systems comparing the CPU utilization, memory consumption, disk I/O, network, and I/O requests. OpenStack was deployed using Devstack on a single node. The novel aspect of this work is monitoring the resource usage by OpenStack without creating virtual machines on commodity hardware. Abstract

This paper proposes optimal control strategies of a standalone Hybrid Power System (HPS) to supply sustainable and optimal energy to an isolated site with improved quality of electrical energy. A topology of Isolated Hybrid Power System (IHPS) is proposed, consists of: a Photovoltaic System (PVS), a Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS), electronic power devices controlled to maximize energy production from renewable sources and to maintain the constant DC-link voltage, a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), Diesel Generator (DG), and a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) located at the load-side end. In addition, a novel control strategy has been proposed, in this work, to maximize the power from the PVS. This presented strategy, based on the combination between Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm and the Fuzzy PI Controller (FPIC), presents a good performance, especially in the dynamic state compared to the classical algorithm P&O. A supervisory control algorithm has been elaborated to manage the energy flows between the devices of the hybrid system to make the decision of the optimal operating mode in order to ensure a continuous supply of the load with minimum usage of batteries and DG. Abstract

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread rapidly throughout the world and has caused millions of deaths. However, the number of daily COVID-19 deaths in Thailand has been low with most daily records showing zero deaths, thereby making them fit a Zero-Inflated Poisson (ZIP) distribution. Herein, confidence intervals for the Coefficient Of Variation (CV) of a ZIP distribution are derived using four methods: the standard bootstrap (SB), percentile bootstrap (PB), Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC), and the Bayesian-based highest posterior density (HPD), for which using the variance of the CV is unnecessary. We applied the methods to both simulated data and data on the number of daily COVID-19 deaths in Thailand. Both sets of results show that the SB, MCMC, and HPD methods performed better than PB for most cases in terms of coverage probability and average length. Abstract

Objectives: Notably, as a result of the unique circumstances that the global population is facing (Covid-19), there has been an increase in interest in educational leadership science, particularly in academic environment, with the aim of enhancing an ecosystem that is inclusive, open to change, monitoring, and often unforeseen challenges. Of the various types of educational leadership, transformational leadership is recognized as the most suitable for use in academic environment. It focuses on the division of leadership responsibilities among academics with varying skills in order to handle collectively the spectrum of leadership responsibilities needed in a variety of contexts. Methods/Analysis: This perspective is embodied in this study paper, which examined the degree to which members of the Senate of three Universities of Greece, engaged in three distinct types of leadership (transformational leadership, transactional leadership, and leadership to be avoided) via digital leadership. The findings were interpreted using descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive data analysis algorithms. Findings: The findings indicate that participants demonstrate a high level of Transformational and Transactional Leadership. They demonstrated a high level of Digital Leadership while avoiding Passive - To Avoid Leadership. The study demonstrates that Digital Leadership has a relatively favorable association with the leadership outcome, which is translated as a high level of performance and satisfaction coexisting with a high level of digital leadership execution.
