Abstract

IT for rural tourism was in place before the COVID-19 pandemic emerged; however, the initiatives were intermittent and isolated. The effects of the pandemic encourage e-collaboration to accelerate the recovery of tourism. This study explores the opportunities, strategies and barriers to e-collaboration in tourism business activities. Systematic literature studies were carried out by the PRISMA approach and analyzed with the fuzzy Delphi method (FDM). Meta-analysis results are mapped in a matrix combination of SWOT and Porter’s Diamond Model. This matrix was discussed with experts selected based on their experience in IT-based collaborative activities through FDG. This study’s driving factors are management commitment, culture, trust, citizens, and local community involvement. Inhibiting factors are a lack of IT, the risk of conflict, and particular parties’ domination. Several strategies to increase e-collaboration opportunities are empowering local entrepreneurship, encouraging continuous innovation, and sharing knowledge. Conflict management and increasing trust between members need to be considered to overcome barriers to e-collaboration. This study provides a novel overview of the main issues discussed in previous tourism research regarding the importance of IT to accelerate economic recovery in the face of disruption, such as a pandemic. Abstract

The article deals with the service life of torsion bars in tracked vehicles. The aim of the article is to show the suitability of accelerated tests and modelling for determining the service life of torsion bars, which takes many years in real operation. The design of a test bench for accelerated tests is presented together with limiting conditions, which were afterwards verified. Subsequently, a virtual model of the torsion bar of a tracked vehicle was created with the help of finite elements. Dynamic modelling was performed by MSC Adams software with a module using finite elements. Furthermore, the article shows the possibility of using the Monte Carlo method to determine the service life of torsion bars of tracked vehicles. The Monte Carlo utility of Accelerated Life Testing Analysis (ALTA) software is used to obtain failure data at specified test stress levels. Using the Monte Carlo simulation, one data set is generated containing values that are arranged in dependence on the specific lifetime distribution of the Weibull distribution. Finally, a comparison of the experiment with the calculated values is performed. The results obtained can be used to compile an accelerated test plan. This modelling design saves a lot of money and time to determine the life of the torsion bar in tracked vehicles.
SROI with Assurance Can Help Contributors Distinguish Hypocritical Organizations from Genuine NFPs Fuminobu Mizutani

Abstract

The American film Poverty, Inc. alerted citizens to the fact that some “not-for-profit” organizations impair public benefit and seek profit. To avoid to contributing to such hypocritical organizations, this paper considers the possible use of SROI. SROI is an accounting concept used to evaluate NFPs. There is a problem called overhead aversion among contributors. It is hypothesized that spreading the use of assurance on SROI will face this problem. If so, a measure against this is necessary. This paper builds its theory on the existence of negative SROI as a tool to distinguish hypocritical organizations from genuine NFPs from the perspective of welfare economics, and argues that, theoretically, SROI can be negative. This paper then uses a questionnaire-based survey and conducts various statistical analysis to show that disclosure of SROI with assurance is practical. Nevertheless, it is also shown that assurance on SROI faces overhead aversion, a measure against which is provided by an influential paper. Spreading the use of SROI with assurance will trigger a shift from contribution to hypocritical organizations to contributions toward genuine NFPs. Such a shifts in contributions may also improve welfare. Abstract

A molecule called hemoglobin is found in red blood cells that holds oxygen all over the body. Hemoglobin is elastic, round, and stable in a healthy human. This makes it possible to float across red blood cells. But the composition of hemoglobin is unhealthy if you have sickle cell disease. It refers to compact and bent red blood cells. The odd cells obstruct the flow of blood. It is dangerous and can result in severe discomfort, organ damage, heart strokes, and other symptoms. The human life expectancy can be shortened as well. The early identification of sickle calls will help people recognize signs that can assist antibiotics, supplements, blood transfusion, pain-relieving medications, and treatments etc. The manual assessment, diagnosis, and cell count are time consuming process and may result in misclassification and count since millions of red blood cells are in one spell. When utilizing data mining techniques such as the multilayer perceptron classifier algorithm, sickle cells can be effectively detected with high precision in the human body. The proposed approach tackles the limitations of manual research by implementing a powerful and efficient MLP (Multi-Layer Perceptron) classification algorithm that distinguishes Sickle Cell Anemia (SCA) into three classes: Normal (N), Sickle Cells(S) and Thalassemia (T) in red blood cells. Abstract

The authors propose to improve the methodology of operational and service activities planning based on the methodology of defense planning within the national security system on the basis of opportunities. The capability-based planning will allow for better planning of operational and service activities of the border agency and will ensure active cooperation between Ukraine and NATO in order to achieve the criteria necessary for full membership in the Alliance. A defense survey is conducted to assess the state and readiness of the defense forces to perform tasks related to the defense of Ukraine, the state of their personnel, financial, logistical and other types of support in the current and projected conditions of the security environment. The survey of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine was conducted using an analytical method, namely the analysis of strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT-analysis), which allows substantiating the main directions of the Development Strategy of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and increasing the level of operational and service activities planning within the system of national security. Abstract

Modern IT technologies shaped the shift in economic models with many advantages on cost, optimization, and time to market. This economic shift has increased the need for transparency and traceability in supply chain platforms to achieve trust among partners. Distributed ledger technology (DLT) is proposed to enable supply chains systems with trust requirements. In this paper, we investigate the existing DLT-based supply chain projects to show their technical part and limitations and extract the tools and techniques used to avoid the DLT scalability issue. We then set the requirements for a typical DLT-based supply chain in this context. The analyses are based on the scalability metrics such as computing, data storage, and transaction fees that fit the typical supply chain system. This paper highlights the effects of Blockchain techniques on scalability and their incorporation in supply chains systems. It also presents other existing solutions that can be applied to the supply chain. The investigation shows the necessity of having such tools in supply chains and developing them to achieve an efficient and scalable system. Abstract

Computer crime is a form of criminal behavior in which the use of computer technology and information systems is manifested as a mode of crime or the computer is used as a means or purpose of perpetration with which is producing some relevant criminal consequence. Computer crime is also an unlawful violation of property in which computer data is intentionally altered (manipulated by a computer), destroyed (computer sabotaged) or used in conjunction with hardware (theft of time). Objective of this paper is consideration of using new computer technology in everyday life. Unfortunately, some users using new technology for criminal acts. Abstract

The architecture is based on a dialectical search for new ways of matter representation. We deal with the form of contemporary architecture under two approaches: expression and content. The article examines how mathematical principles based on natural growth can be applied in architectural design to create a dynamic, not static, structure. The dynamic process of the cell and its growth provides the basic structure. The continuity of the domain is exemplified by the impact of the new forms on the society that has already begun to emerge from the obscurity. The paper argues that without a deeper and more receptive connection between geometry and performance from a bio-morphogenetic perspective of complex systems. The experimental design methods are applied both to generate and to evaluate an architecture of the futuristic lines. These methodological frameworks focus on cyclically restated themes in the field of parametrises, which are identified as endemic to architecture: the realization of buildings, of multifunctional volumes and customized per se through a gradual approach of the architectural properties and the exploitation of a "concept construction" integrated as a process, obtained through innovative modelling environments. And so, and the reconstruction of architecture as an organ of nature is demonstrated. The new vanguard of proto architecture describes difficulties and inconsistencies in the relationship between theories and structures, difficulties arising from the very idea of "virtually" itself. It becomes difficult to say that a drawing in cyberspace is an architectural form or just a graph of architectural theory; in the virtual space, there is no difference between the particular structure and the general principle. Therefore, the form is first designed, only after to be constructed. Naturally, it is impossible (theoretically or technically) for design and construction processes to take place simultaneously. Abstract

Herein, we propose the Bayesian approach for constructing the confidence intervals for both the coefficient of variation of a log-normal distribution and the difference between the coefficients of variation of two log-normal distributions. For the first case, the Bayesian approach was compared with large-sample, Chi-squared, and approximate fiducial approaches via Monte Carlo simulation. For the second case, the Bayesian approach was compared with the method of variance estimates recovery (MOVER), modified MOVER, and approximate fiducial approaches using Monte Carlo simulation. The results show that the Bayesian approach provided the best approach for constructing the confidence intervals for both the coefficient of variation of a log-normal distribution and the difference between the coefficients of variation of two log-normal distributions. To illustrate the performances of the confidence limit construction approaches with real data, they were applied to analyze real PM10 datasets from the Nan and Chiang Mai provinces in Thailand, the results of which are in agreement with the simulation results. Doi: 10.28991/esj-2021-01264 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

Malaysia had ranked as eighth over the top 20 countries with mismanaged plastic waste. The largest source of this issue was high consumption of single-use plastic by individuals. It is believed that, residents’ social behaviour played a significant role in reducing single-use plastic, which contributed to decreased plastic pollution. Therefore, this study investigates the factors that affect residents’ single-use plastic behavioural intention in Malaysia using the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). A Quantitative study using survey questionnaire was employed and the total samples were 341 residents in Batu Pahat Johor. All of the data were analysed using regression analysis through Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The results show a positive relationship between all variables except for environmental awareness and law and regulation. At the same time, the most influential factor affecting residents’ single-use plastic reducing behavioural intention was the attitude of residents against lower plastic consumption. Future studies were recommended to be conducted in urban areas which could obtain more desired outcomes.
