Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic that attacked Indonesia and other countries of the world has changed human’ way of life. The Covid-19 pandemic greatly influences the field of education, where all learning activities turn to online mode, which results in students’ depression symptoms due to their unpreparedness. This study aims to analyze the impact of remote learning, family conditions, and mental resilience on depression symptoms in early childhood. This study used ex-post facto research (measurement after the event) because the research data for both independent variables and dependent variables occurred before this study was held. The study population was 80 children. The data collection method used was a questionnaire developed from the indicators of each variable. The analysis method used multiple regression. The data analysis used correlation and regression techniques, with regression analysis of three predictors and one criterion. The research findings showed that depression symptoms of early childhood are jointly influenced by remote learning, family condition, and mental resilience. However, two variables that do not affect the depression symptoms of early childhood are remote learning and mental resilience. It can be recommended that parents and parties involved in early childhood education give more attention to children. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2022-06-06-013 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

The study improved budgeting efficiency at industrial enterprises with evidence from Russia, Italy, and the Middle East. In the era of contemporary globalization and technological advancement, a budgeting system holds paramount significance in the effective management of the financial operations and activities, enhancing the overall efficiency of the firm's cash management, mitigating the risk of finance misallocation, and improving the overall financial performance of the enterprise. However, despite its effectiveness, there is a lack of evidence supporting budgeting automation and its efficiency in managing industrial enterprises. More so, limited theoretical and practical relevance is found in the context of Russia, Italy, and the Middle East. This research intended to fill the existing research gap where a qualitative research design was opted. Primary data were collected from the budgeting heads of 3 pharmaceutical firms, each located in Russia, Italy, and Iran. In-depth interviews with 3 budgeting heads identified that the conventional incremental budgeting system needed amendment and replacement with a consolidated and contemporary yet flexible approach to bring radical improvements at the macro-environment level within the industrial enterprise. The key findings led to the development of a model to improve budgeting efficiency, comprising three components: information and analytical/accounting support for budgeting, production accounting information, and a combination of the regulated operation prices. The consolidation of these three components can yield budgeting efficiency. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-01-013 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

Objectives: Task performance is an essential determinant of organization life, including profit and non-profit organizations. Lecturers' task performance in universities is vital to realizing the goals, which include creating quality graduates and building competitiveness that promises sustainable progress for all involved stakeholders. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate lecturers' task performance by considering other relevant variables. Accordingly, this study examined Indonesian lecturers' task performance based on innovative behavior, job involvement, and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). The study also attempted to find relevant models of innovative behavior influencing lecturers' task performance, mediated by job involvement and OCB. Methods: Questionnaires with the Likert scale were used to collect data from 230 lecturers selected using accidental sampling. The data were analyzed using descriptive and correlational techniques and structural equation modeling. Results: Innovative behavior, job involvement, and OCB significantly affected the lecturers' task performance. Besides, job involvement and OCB mediating innovative behavior affected the lecturers' task performance. However, the mediating role of job involvement was more prominent than that of OCB. Novelty: A new model of innovative behavior mediated by job involvement and OCB was developed, affecting lecturers’ task performance. It is hoped that the model can trigger interesting discussions and raise new hope for task performance improvement based on innovative behavior mediating job involvement and OCB. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2022-SIED-09 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a worldwide healthcare crisis. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have recently been used with encouraging results to help detect COVID-19 from chest X-ray images. However, to generalize well to unseen data, CNNs require large labeled datasets. Due to the lack of publicly available COVID-19 datasets, most CNNs apply various data augmentation techniques during training. However, there has not been a thorough statistical analysis of how data augmentation operations affect classification performance for COVID-19 detection. In this study, a fractional factorial experimental design is used to examine the impact of basic augmentation methods on COVID-19 detection. The latter enables identifying which particular data augmentation techniques and interactions have a statistically significant impact on the classification performance, whether positively or negatively. Using the CoroNet architecture and two publicly available COVID-19 datasets, the most common basic augmentation methods in the literature are evaluated. The results of the experiments demonstrate that the methods of zoom, range, and height shift positively impact the model's accuracy in dataset 1. The performance of dataset 2 is unaffected by any of the data augmentation operations. Additionally, a new state-of-the-art performance is achieved on both datasets by training CoroNet with the ideal data augmentation values found using the experimental design. Specifically, in dataset 1, 97% accuracy, 93% precision, and 97.7% recall were attained, while in dataset 2, 97% accuracy, 97% precision, and 97.6% recall were achieved. These results indicate that analyzing the effects of data augmentations on a particular task and dataset is essential for the best performance. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-SPER-01 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

This study is designed to support the development of strategies to recover from the disrupted impact of COVID-19 on HE institutes of the South Asian Region (SAR), as the nations in this region are severely cursed by poverty and unemployment. During the unusual phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, the face-to-face learning method is no longer appropriate, and the crisis leads to force on distance learning instead of physical learning. Like all other educational institutions, HE institutions are also in big trouble. Changes in educational structure change the pattern of academic work, which may have an inverse impact on acquiring knowledge and improving skills. Not only students but also a greater number of teachers at the HE institutions required to continue their service through online during this closure period. However, well digital infrastructure and digital contents appear to be the prime requirements for this educational transmission, which are extensively accessible in SAR countries. By following a mixed-methods strategy, the study specifically examines the impact of the pandemic on higher education in the South Asian Region, with an emphasis on the impact on learners, educators, and institutions, and to identify the measures that have been taken by these countries to survive and continue the education system with all the obstacles of the crisis. It concludes with some vital suggestions that may be applied to mitigate the crisis moment and assist in moving forward with more technological advancements for a new future. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-SPER-06 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate if passive cooling technologies have been implemented in commercially supplied new residential areas in Bangkok and to observe if there were significant differences in the land surface temperature (LST) compared to old residential areas. Values of LST were compared among 62 residential areas that differed in completion year. The mean LST for the most recent residential areas completed in 2013 or later was significantly less than that for the other older categories, suggesting that passive cooling effects were significantly better functioning in the new residential areas. A roof treatment on old buildings in a public housing project was still quantitatively effective after 8 years. This suggested the possibility of a deteriorated cooling function in the older categories among the residential areas. The possibility of deterioration was quantitatively investigated. The results stressed the importance of the periodic maintenance of passive cooling functions. As an extension of precise basic studies, this is the first study to quantify the passive cooling effects on commercially supplied residential areas. In terms of spatial extent, this residential area–scale study bridges precise analyses of single buildings/materials and regional observations, mainly relying on satellite data. The study results can aid in the mitigation and prevention of the urban heat island phenomenon. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2022-06-06-08 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

Recognition of sleep patterns and posture has sparked interest in various clinical applications. Sleep postures can be monitored autonomously and constantly to provide useful information for decreasing health risks. Existing systems mostly use images to train the model to learn based on many sensors. For example, a camera, pressure sensor, and electrocardiogram. In this study, a model (named as SleepCon) was designed using deep learning, which will have the capability to train with any threshold image obtained from any sensor. This paper presented a system where data was obtained from a camera installed on the top of a mattress. The camera located the movement of the body posture on the mattress while the subject was lying down on the mattress. In doing so, CNN and other pre-processed steps took place to collect data and then analyze the data to recognize different sleep postures. This model was stored for use in real-time applications. The system can recognize the three major postures, i.e., left, right, and supine. A real-time application is also developed and operates the stored SleepCon model through an accompanying desktop application for detecting the posture live. The accuracy of classification was greater than 90%, while the actual application accuracy was 100% after carrying out the experiment on the SleepCon model. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-01-04 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

Despite the growth of empirical evidence in this field, little review research exists that assesses the theoretical aspects, marketing drivers, and consequences of market mavens. In this study, therefore, a systematic literature review (SLR) was utilized to perform a thorough analysis of market maven literature, encompassing articles published over 23 years on the Scopus and Web of Science indexed journals. It was found that the social and psychological aspects had not been widely explored and remained the weakest pillar. The results highlight that the theory of planned behavior has been the most commonly applied theory in the literature, as it has been used in six studies. Moreover, there is a very limited understanding of the existing literature's psychological and motivational characteristics and their role in cyber-market mavenism. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first SLR that addresses market maven literature. This research offers a comprehensive study agenda that focuses on various critical areas that need more consideration, such as the cultural role of market mavens and the differentiation between the roles of market mavens and non-mavens in sharing information on social network sites. Scholars might also look at the influence of the generational difference between people and whether or not placing an age or gender limit on people is important in terms of the nature of social networks. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2023-07-01-019 Full Text: PDF

Abstract

In the proposed study, the authors focus on the situation in the field of technical education in Slovak primary schools and present the results of an original research study focused on the application of an inquiry-based approach. The main goal of the investigation was to compare the efficiency of using inquiry-based activities in teaching selected topics (Electromagnetism and Electronics) with the efficiency of traditional teaching methods where students follow their teacher’s instructions. In the presented research study, carried out in four primary schools, the methods of pedagogical experiment and didactic tests examining students’ knowledge on the three levels of Niemierko’s taxonomy were used. The authors of the study present their findings regarding the impact of inquiry-based teaching on 6th grade students’ knowledge, activity, and motivation. Based on the obtained results, it can be assumed that inquiry-based teaching can lead to better knowledge acquisition, increased student activity, and a higher motivation to learn compared with applying traditional methods of teaching. The results of the t-testconfirmed the significance of differences between the experimental group’s and the control group’s performance in all three observed fields. The authors believe that the presented findings can contribute to improving the quality of the educational process not only in technical education but in other fields of didactics as well. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2022-SIED-016 Full Text: PDF
