Abstract

This study explored the intricate nexus between public service provision and land use planning, specifically focusing on the conservation of local plant species in Tambon Khao Phanom, Amphoe Khao Phanom, Krabi Province. The research aimed to explore, understand, and analyze Thailand's land use resources, planning, and implementation. This study employed a multi-method research approach to gather an exhaustive set of data and insights. The researcher collected data from documentation research and secondary data sources in this research study. Based on the grounded theory, this research adopts the triangulation method. The data analysis was done using the 5P model and strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities. This multidisciplinary approach integrates the one-map method with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The findings depict the lack of adequate implementation of government policies and awareness among the landholders, which are required for sustainable community development. Abstract

This study employed a survey-based approach supported by the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework to investigate the effect of the Metaverse on education, with a special focus on collaborative learning, opportunities, and immersive experiences. Data collected from 337 university students provided insights regarding the perceptions, opportunities, and experiences linked with metaverse technologies in educational settings. Study findings remained supportive towards the preliminary hypotheses. The first hypothesis confirmed a significant effect on Collaborative Learning. The second hypothesis also indicated a significant effect of metaverse technology on Learning Opportunities. Finally, the third hypothesis, focusing on Immersive Experiences, also remained significant. Overall, the respondents agreed that the Metaverse is a positive addition, improving their learning experiences and motivating them to engage in learning activities. Abstract

The supply chain for perishable products faces significant challenges in monitoring and maintaining product quality. These products are particularly vulnerable to environmental dynamic conditions and variations in distribution and transportation. To address these challenges, leveraging the Internet of Things (IoT) and quality inference techniques during transportation can provide valuable insights for both consumers and producers. The objective of the research is to develop a model for inferring the quality of perishable products using an IoT sensor dataset to monitor perishable product quality continuously. This research applied a hybrid approach combining a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS), clustering models, and genetic algorithms to infer the product quality during supply chain distribution with IoT sensors. The result shows that the hybrid FIS model, which employs Gaussian membership functions and fuzzy c-means clustering for rule generation, achieves a high accuracy with an R²: 0.873. This research contributes to improving the model by employing genetic algorithms in optimizing the inference model by activating only five out of seven rules. The model optimization achieves optimal computation time while aiming to preserve model accuracy. Abstract

In the modern higher education sphere, universities’ ability to adapt has become more vital to their success and longevity. This study investigates the influence of leadership, technological innovation, sociopolitical engagement, skill and curriculum development, institutional collaboration, and governmental regulatory frameworks on university adaptability. Quantitative research was conducted by surveying 980 participants from various institutions in Kazakhstan, Russia, and Spain, using a standardized questionnaire. Structural equation modeling was employed to analyze variable connections. The findings suggest that leadership (β = 0.32, p < 0.001), technological innovation (β = 0.28, p < 0.001), sociopolitical engagement (β = 0.19, p < 0.001), and curriculum and skills development (β = 0.25, p < 0.001) have a substantial positive impact on the adaptability of universities. Furthermore, the mediation analysis demonstrated that institutional collaboration partially mediated the relationship between university adaptability and both leadership (indirect effect = 0.14, p < 0.01) and technological innovation (indirect effect = 0.12, p < 0.01). Additionally, moderation analysis verified that the government regulation framework substantially moderated the effects of leadership (β = 0.15, p = 0.02) and technological innovation (β = 0.10, p = 0.03) on university adaptability. Abstract

This study tackles the growing challenge of inter-user interference in Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) systems, particularly as user density increases in modern communication networks. The primary objective is to improve system performance by implementing a downlink sectorization strategy, which groups users into distinct sectors to manage interference and optimize resource allocation. A Sequential Power Allocation (SePA) algorithm was introduced to enhance power distribution within sectors, aiming to maximize both user capacity and overall sum rate. The methods employed included detailed simulations comparing the performance of traditional NOMA systems and those incorporating sectorization. The results demonstrate that sectorization can significantly boost the system’s sum rate by up to 25% and reduce decoding errors by as much as 51%, particularly when the number of users per sector is kept under 20. However, performance saturation occurs beyond this threshold, where additional users do not contribute to further improvements. The novelty of this research lies in applying spatial sectorization to NOMA, showing that spatial sectorization can minimize intra-sector interference, improve power efficiency, and maintain reliable communication in high-demand environments such as the Internet of Things (IoT). Abstract

This study investigates the adoption of Metaverse-based immersive learning in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), an area that has been understudied and lacks an understanding of factors influencing the acceptance of this digital platform. In contrast to traditional mobile or e-learning, the Metaverse facilitates all sorts of unique immersive experiences including virtual simulations and cultural dialogues that can aid your process for language acquisition and cultural understanding. However, its reception in the field of TESOL is yet to be substantiated through empirical evidence. The present study explores the effects of constructs such as Perceived ease of use (PEU), Perceived usefulness (PUS), Attitude (ATT), Subjective norm (SBN) and Perceived behavioural control (PBC) on students' Intention to Use Metaverse (IUM) in TESOL context. Data collected from 736 university students in Jordan were analyzed using structural equation modelling (SEM) with a combined Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) framework. Results indicate that in terms of direct effects, PEU strongly influences ATT (β = 0.566) and SBN (β = 0.448), whereas PUS regulates ATT (β = 0.514) and SBN (β= 0.482). Path coefficients for the predictive factors of IUM—ATT, SBN, and PBC were 0.326, 0.641, and 0.516 respectively. A J48 decision tree validated by machine learning was able to predict 91.22% of IUM with good accuracy. The results reveal that Metaverse-based TESOL has gradually become part of student habits despite their limited access to technology. Abstract

In the Russian Federation, persistent economic and legal tensions surround the allocation of citizens’ pension savings; however, individuals retain the option to select the organization that manages the funded portion of their pension. This study aims to address the challenges posed by dynamic programming regarding the optimal distribution of Russian citizens’ pension savings to non-state pension funds (NPFs), using predictive analyses of expected returns generated by the Verhulst forecasting equation. The research methodology encompassed system analysis, the Verhulst prognostic equation, dynamic programming models, and conditional optimization based on R. Bellman’s equations. The study’s information and empirical foundation comprised current regulatory legal acts, data from the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat), open data from the Central Bank of the Russian Federation (Bank of Russia), analysis of information sources on the activities of domestic NPFs, results of empirical studies by domestic and foreign authors, and information obtained from open sources on the profitability of 22 NPFs of the Russian Federation. The forecast for the period from 2024 to 2063, using the Verhulst forecasting model developed in this study, indicates that the highest value of expected profitability in 2063, specifically 11.66% in annual terms, should be anticipated from the JSC NPF Alliance, while the minimum (3.54% per annum) is expected from the JSC MNPF BOLSHOY. The solution to the dynamic programming problem concerning the optimal distribution of citizens’ pension savings in NPFs demonstrated that the maximum return on investment of pension funds would be achieved under the condition that from 2024 to 2043, funds are invested in JSC NPF FUTURE, and from 2044 to 2063, the funds are invested in the JSC NPF Alliance. Abstract

Although digital transformation (DT) is an unavoidable trend today, achieving successful DT presents numerous challenges. Problem-solving skills (PSS) and knowledge barriers in the digital age are among the most pressing issues. Given this premise, this research aims to unveil the “decision-making related to digital transformation adoption (DTDM)” via the cognitive processes and PSS. The study conducted an online survey with 516 current employees of Vietnamese enterprises to evaluate the measurement and structural models and to clarify the nexuses between low cognitive level (LCL), high cognitive level (HCL), PSS, and DTDM. The research results show that LCL, HCL, and PSS are positively associated with DTDM, with HCL and PSS mediating the relationship between LCL and DTDM. In addition, the study also pointed out the moderating role of creativity (CRT) in the association between LCL and DTDM. Abstract

The tobacco industry is heavily regulated due to the significant health implications associated with tobacco use. The industry also involves numerous stakeholders, including farmers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, regulators, and consumers. The aim of this research is to select the most relevant environmental criteria for the green development of the tobacco industry. This article uses Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) methods to create a hierarchical structure of the criteria and subcriteria necessary for green business development, establishing the relative weights of these subcriteria to find the areas in which attention and resources are most urgently required. The assessment of the concordance of expert opinions shows a satisfactory level of agreement. The article advances a more comprehensive view towards the evaluation of green criteria that are significant for the whole industry, seeking to highlight the need to think holistically. According to the views of experts, the most significant sub-criteria for the green development of the tobacco industry are increasing energy efficiency; safeguarding against hazardous wastewater in the environment; reducing the content of hazardous materials used in products; improving air, land, and water quality where economic activity takes place; sustainable forest management; eco-design, especially for efficient material use, biodegradability, and recyclability; and collaboration with suppliers. Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the mental workload perceived by students when using Build_3D, a mixed reality (MR) application, as an educational tool for learning PC and smartphone hardware, as well as to analyze teachers' perceptions of its impact on the teaching process. The NASA-TLX tool was applied to measure mental workload in 60 students, assessing six dimensions: mental demand, physical demand, temporal demand, perceived performance, effort, and frustration level. Additionally, qualitative observations were collected from teachers regarding the use of MR in practical learning environments. The results show that the perceived performance dimension achieved the highest score, highlighting the application’s effectiveness in improving learning outcomes. Mental and temporal demands were moderate, while effort, frustration, and physical demand were low. Teachers noted that Build_3D enhances practical learning by enabling the repetition of complex tasks and fostering student motivation through immersive experiences. As a novel contribution, the study highlights the capacity of MR tools to integrate theoretical and practical concepts in an interactive environment, reducing cognitive load and promoting autonomous and personalized learning. Doi: 10.28991/ESJ-2024-SIED1-024 Full Text: PDF
