Abstract

The poor bioavailability of drugs has been identified as the single most important challenge in oral drug delivery. Prominent among the factors responsible for this are the oxidative metabolic activity of the intestinal and hepatic cytochrome P450 enzyme family. Naringin and naringenin which are the major phytochemical component of grapefruit juice, a well-known cytochrome P450 3A4 inhibitor and flavone glycoside, is antioxidant in nature and occurs naturally in the pericarp of citrus fruit, and particularly of grapefruit (Citrus paradisii) where it is the predominant flavonoid found and is responsible for the bitter taste associated with the fruit. CYP3A4 which is a class of CYP – 450 (microsomal enzyme) is responsible for the oxidative metabolic reaction of various substrates which decreases the bioavailability of drug.

Abstract

The ethanolic extract of Alternanthera sessilis Linn. was evaluated for antimicrobial activity study against medically important gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus polymexia & Streotococcus faecalis, gram negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aerugenosa, Salmonella typhii, Shigella dysenteriae & Escherichia coli and fungi like Penicillum notatum, Aspergillus niger & Candida albicans. The in-vitro antimicrobial activity, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of ethanolic extract was performed by broth dilution method and the zone of inhibition was studied by agar disc diffusion method at concentrations of 2, 5 and 10mg/ml in DMSO. Ciprofloxacin (5µg/ml) and Cotrimazole (25µg/ml) were used as reference control for the antibacterial and antifungal studies respectively. The results of MIC study revealed the antimicrobial activity of the extract against the tested strains of microorganisms between concentration range of 50 and 400 µg/ml. The results of zone of inhibition study revealed concentration dependant nature of the extract with better effectiveness against gram-positive bacteria than gram-negative bacteria. The present study indicates the potential usefulness of Alternanthera sessilis Linn. aerial parts in the treatment of various pathogenic diseases as mentioned in the ayurvedic literature.

Abstract

The present study was aimed to formulate and characterized chewable tablets of Paracetamol and Metoclopramide hydrochloride. Paracetamol and Metoclopramide hydrochloride is an oral fixed dose combination for the preparation of chewable tablets used to treat the symptoms of migraine as it comply with physicochemical properties require to improve the effectiveness of therapeutic agent, better bioavailability, improved patient acceptance (especially pediatrics) through pleasant taste, patient convenience; need no water for swallowing, fasten the absorption of drug and for rapid onset of action. The investigation was carried out to study the effect of different proportion of Avicel 101, Avicel 102 and moringa gum, which are superdisintegrating agents. The chewable tablets of Paracetamol and Metoclopramide hydrochloride were prepared by wet granulation method. Several physicochemical parameters like thickness, diameter, hardness, %weight variation, %loss in weight, drug content, disintegration time, in vitro dissolution studies, kinetics of drug release and stability studies for all the formulations were studied and were found within the acceptance limits. Formulation F7 (containing moringa gum 1%) showed the best cumulative drug release and disintegration time of 56 secs.

Abstract

The survey on Ethano medicinal plant of Chhattisgarh origin has been carried out to gather information regarding potent medicinal plants and their uses. The survey report is focused on traditional practice ethnic natural resources for mitigation and cure from several ailments. Even today, these herbal medicines are in practice to cure variety of disease. The present investigation was conducted using questionnaire in rural areas situated around in Chhattisgarh. Traditional knowledge about plant wealth passes from generation to generation for conservation of the traditional medicine.

Abstract

Matrix tablets of Prednisolone were prepared by wet granulation method using various proportions of Sterculia gum with Carbopol 934P and Sterculia gum with Ethyl cellulose at 1:1, 1: .5 and 1:2 ratio. Coating was carried out by using 1:1 ratio of Eudragit L100 and Eudragit S100. All the preparation were evaluated for Pre compressional properties, Post compressional properties and in-vitro Dissolution study in different pH buffer of 0.1N HCL ,pH 7.4 , pH 6.8 in order to mimic GIT condition. Formulation shows good results with good percentage yield.

Abstract

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the anxiolytic potential of the Linum usitatissimum (Flax seed) oil (5ml and 2.5ml/kg) in wistar rats by using Elevated plus maze (EPM) model and 5ml and 10 ml/kg in Lithium induced head twitches model. Experiments were carried out on white inbred Wistar rats (180-200 g). The efficacy of the oil at both the animal models was compared with the standard anxiolytic drugs Diazepam (0.5 mg/kg). The result showed that the oil significantly increased the number of entries and time spent in the open arm in the elevated plus maze. Similarly in Lithium induced head twitches model administration of oil decreases the no. of head twitches. Present study confirms that the extract showed significant anxiolytic activity at both dose levels which is comparable with standard anxiolytic Diazepam.
