Abstract

Background: Salivary pH can rise or fall influenced by intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Sleep deprivation is one example of intrinsic factors. Sleep deprivation causes a reduction in sleep time at a certain time. Purpose: Analyze the effect of different types of sleep deprivations and sleep recovery on salivary pH. Method: This study was experimental research with a post-test only with a control group design. Thirty white Wistar strain rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: healthy control group (KI), partial sleep deprivation (PSD/KII), total sleep deprivation (TSD/KIII), partial sleep deprivation, and continued sleep recovery (PSD+SR/KIV) and total sleep deprivation and continued sleep recovery (TSD+SR/KV). The treatment is carried out on a single platform method. Salivary pH was measured with the help of color-coded pH strips that were given grading after the completion of sleep deprivation induction. Result: The mean decrease in salivary pH was highest in the TSD group. One Way ANOVA test showed significant differences (p <0.05) in the control group with PSD and TSD, the PSD group with PSD+SR, TSD group with PSD+SR and TSD+SR. Conclusion: Sleep deprivation is proven to reduce the pH of Saliva. Total sleep deprivation is a chronic condition that has the most influence on decreasing salivary pH. The effect of decreasing salivary pH due to sleep deprivation is proven to be overcome by sleep recovery.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension or high blood pressure is an increase in systolic blood presure ≥140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure ≥ 90 mmHg in a person's body, when two measurements are taken with an interval of five minutes so that the body is resting or quite calm. In TCM, hypertension is categorized into two, is called Xuan Yun (vertigo) and Tou Feng (headache). Cases of hypertension experienced by patients is the patient's blood pressure has increased 188/100 mmHg because stopped taking medicine for 2 years. The patient is classified as hypertensive with differentiated liver fire hyperactivity syndrome. Purpose: To determine the effect of acupuncture combination therapy at Shenmen (HT 7), Fuliu (KI 7), Taichong (LR 3), Xingjian (LR 2), and Yinlingquan (SP 9) herbal fruit and herbal cucumber (Cucumis sativus) in diseases hypertension. Method: Treatment of Hypertension with acupuncture and herbal therapy methods. Acupuncture therapy was carried out at Shenmen (HT 7), Fuliu (KI 7), Taichong (LR 3), points for tonification, the Point of Xingjian (LR 2) and Yinlingquan (SP 9) points for sedation. Result: The water content 0f 95% in cucumber which is a diuretic can reduce blood pressure in hypertension patient by giving cucumber herbs (Cucumis sativus) once a day, for 27 days with a dose of 150 grams of cucumber. And acupuncture theraphy 12 times, once every 2 days. Conclusion: Acupuncture and herbal therapy can be used to treat diseases in hypertension patients.

Abstract

Background: infectious disease is one major important health issue. Dental technician is an occupation which has a risk to get infectious disease transmitted from saliva, blood or contaminated tools if universal precaution utensils did not use properly. Infection can be transferred through dental impression from surface contact, handpiece, burs, pumice, aerosol etc. Purpose: This study aim to find out desinfection implementation in dental laboratories located in East Java as a preventive and controlling action towards cross infection. Method: Data were obtained through questionnaire, the questionnaires were designed to get the information related to infection control from dental laboratories in East Java. The survey was conducted in 36 dental laboratories listed by Association of Dental Technician in East Java. Result: As much as 90% dental laboratories did not performed desinfection procedure to the dental impression received from dentist and never follow any desinfection training. AS much as 95% Dental laboratories believe universal precaution utensils can be infected but only 50% utilize universal precaution utensils. Eventhough if such infection occurs, the owner will be fully responsible. Conclusion: Prevention and management towards cross infection control in dental laboratories located in East Java still very low. Development and supervision towards dental laboratories operational by Indonesian government  and professional association need to be improved. Education regarding infection control need to be performed through trainings and inserted infection control matters in dental technician study programme curriculum in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: Radiography examinations are the most widely used and indispensable tools in medical imaging. The dose received by the patient should be known to prevent the risk of radiation exposure. Patient dose in radiography examination can be best estimated in terms of entrance surface dose (ESD). ESD value can be obtained by using the recorded dose viewer installed on the device. However,  not all devices have this feature. Other methods can be conducted using thermoluminescence dosimeter (TLD) although it practically requires a high cost. Purpose: The study aims to estimate the ESD as a dose profile for patients undergoing radiography examination using tube output. Method: The patient data and exposure factors were retrospectively recorded for 263 patients. The ESD was estimated from the measurements of the X-ray tube output and recorded exposure factors.  Result: The ESD value varied from 0.002 to 0.41 mGy. In the thorax PA, thorax LAT, cervical LAT, cervical AP, skull AP, skull LAT, genu LAT and waters was found (0,23±0.05) mGy, (0,09±0,05) mGy, (0,07±0,04) mGy, (0,13±0,08) mGy, (0,03±0,01) mGy, (0,06±0,02) mGy, (0,04±0,00) mGy (0,04±0,02) mGy, respectively. These results were further used to determine the Local Diagnostic Reference Level (LDRL) value. Conclusion: The results revealed that LDRL fell below the national DRL value and international reference

Abstract

Background : Acne vulgaris is a chronic skin disease that occurs due to chronic inflammation of the pilosebaceous glands. Acne is clinically affected by an increase in sebum, Propionibacterium bacteria acne, hormones, genetic, stress, diet and the environment. In Chinese Medicine, acne vulgaris belongs to categories of Feng Ci, it is caused by wind-heat pathogens that attack the lungs and excessive consumption of spicy and oily foods resulting in accumulation of heat in the stomach and intestines. In Chinese Medicine, sebaceous glands are associated with the Lung and Spleen. Patients classified as acne with differentiation of accumulation of phlegm syndrome. Purpose: To know the effect of acupuncture therapy at LI-4 Hegu, ST-36 Zusanli , ST-40 Fenglong, SP-6 Sanyinjiao and herbal therapy using Jianghuang in patients Acne vulgaris with differentiation of accumulation of phlegm syndrome. Method: Acupuncture therapy at LI-4 Hegu, ST-36 Zusanli , ST-40 Fenglong, SP-6 Sanyinjiao were given 12 times, 3 times a week, with the principle of therapy to reinforce phlegm, strengthen the spleen and raise the spleen. In herbal therapy the patient is given herbal Jianghuang (Curcuma longa.L) dose of 3 grams 12 times, 3 times a week. Result: Compound of curcumin which is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and wound healing affects acne. Acupuncture and herbal therapy given 12 times, 3 times a week can overcome acne vulgaris. Conclusion: Acupuncture and herbal therapy can overcome the growth of acne.

Abstract

Background: Acrylic prosthesis that are used for a long time are often not sticky anymore and easy off. Treatment that can be done is relining, which is resurfacing with new material addition to prosthesis surface in contact with mucosa. One of materials used is denture reliner made of acrylic material (heat and self cured acrylic). The successful use of this reliner material depends on the retention of acrylic base surface. There is some retentions namely bur strokes, ethyl acetate and Al2O3 sandblast. Purpose: To determine effect of retention in form of bur strokes, Ethyl Acetate and Al2O3 sandblast on acrylic bases surface on adhesive strength of reliner denture material. Method: Research using samples in form of acrylic blocks with a length of 80 mm, a large block width of 10  x10 mm and small block of 10 x 8 mm, reliner material thickness is 3 mm. Total of 64 samples were divided into 2 groups based on reliner materials (heat and self) and each group was divided into 4 groups based on treatment (control, bur stroke, ethyl acetat and Al2O33 sandblast).  All samples were subjected to tensile test using UTM to obtain tensile strength values. Result: Heat CA tensile strength value was greater than self CA and the two groups were significantly different (p<0.05), while lowest tensile strength value in control group followed by  ethyl acetate and  largest value in Al2O3 sandblast  and almost all groups were significantly different (p<0.05). Conclusion: Heat CA is more adhesive than self CA and  retention on acrylic surface is proven to be effective in increasing adhesive strength of acrylic surface against denture reliner.

Abstract

Background: Radiographers are responsible for producing image quality which can provide accurate diagnostic information by considering the lowest possible radiation dose according to the As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principle. Participation between radiographers and medical physicists is needed in optimizing efforts to control the selection of exposure factors by the required clinical radiographic examination. Purpose: To analyze the exposure index on examination chest posterior-anterior. Method: Quantitative descriptive by analyzing the percentage of exposure index results used in chest PA radiographs as an effort to optimize: image quality and radiation dose indicators on chest PA examinations. Result: Optimization of exposure percentage results of 68%, 25% underexposure, 4% underexposure, 2% overexposure, 1% overexposure (noise). Radiographers have tried to optimize: image quality and image radiation dose by selecting exposure factors that are tailored to the patient's condition and maximizing post-processing for increased quality. Conclusion: In optimizing the CR imaging system, it is necessary to understand exposure index, this is related to the underexposed, optimal, and overexposed categories, besides radiographers can take advantage of post-processing to improve image quality.

Abstract

Background: In acrylic removable dentures, brokenness often occurs in the midline region of the maxilla. Resistance to fracture depends on the physical properties of the material namely the transverse strength. This can be prevented by the addition of glass fibers. Tea is consumed by many people, acrylic resin dipped in steeping tea will reduce the strength of acrylic resin. How the physical properties of acrylic resin are modified by the addition of glass fiber effect when immersed in a tea solution. Purpose: This study was to determine the strength of transverse acrylic resin with the addition of glass fibers soaked in tea. Method: Rectangular acrylic resin with a size of 10 x 65 x 2.5 mm. The number of samples is 24. divided into 4 groups. namely 2 groups without glass fiber and 2 groups with glass fiber. The sample is measured by transverse strength using an autograph (Shimadzu) tool, then data is analyzed using ANOVA. Result: Acrylic resin without glass fiber immersed in tea solution decreases its transverse strength. while the acrylic resin was given glass fiber the strength value of the transversion does not differ significantly either soaked or not. Conclusion: Acrylic resin which is given glass fiber and soaked in tea does not reduce the strength of the transversion. This is due to the glass fiber filling the cavity in the acrylic resin.

Abstract

Background: Adaptive Statistical Iterative Reconstruction (ASIR) reconstruction in unenhanced abdominal CT scan reduce the radiation dose from 11.6 mSv to 2.07 mSv. However, the decrease in dose is accompanied by a decrease in image quality. Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) is one of image quality parameters. Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of the ASIR method on the optimal Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) value in unenhanced abdominal CT of urolithiasis in clinical data. Method: 27 samples collected and the SNR was measured on the ASIR reconstruction results at the level of 40%, 50%, 60% by placing the ROI  in organ structures with different densities. Result: The results of this study indicate that the ASIR method has a significant effect on the SNR value. Based on the linear regression test, the value was 0.005 ( p< 0.05) and only had an effect of 9.5% on SNR. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the ASIR method affects the optimal SNR value for unenhanced abdominal CT on urolithiasis. The ASIR 60% level was recommended.

Abstract

Background: Plant cassava leaves (Manihot esculenta) are known flavonoid is efficacious as antioxidant. Antioxidant can prevent damage to the skin by reducing free radical activity. Purpose: The purpose of this study to determine the concentration of ethanol extract of leaves of cassava can be formulated into dosage cream body scrub which have antioxidant activity. Method: Cassava leaf extract obtained by maceration using 97% ethanol. Determination of antioxidant activity by the method of reduction of free radical DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl). Result: The ethanol extract of cassava leaves are formulated into dosage cream body scrub with concentration variations 0,0085 mg/mL  (formula 1), 0,017 mg/mL  (formula 2), and 0,0255 mg/mL  (formula 3). Stability test preparation cream body scrub using cycling tests performed for 6 cycles. Preparation cream body scrub to formula I has a moderate antioxidant activity with IC50 158,16 µg/mL, formula 2 has an active antioxidant activity with IC50 66,59 µg/mL, and formula 3 has a stronger antioxidant activity with IC50 38,80 µg/mL. Conclusion: Cream body scrub and cassava ethanol extract does not irritate so it is safe to use. Preparations cream body scrub well have the most activity at a concentration of 0,0255 mg/mL with IC50 38,80 µg/mL.
