The study aimed at improving the speaking achievement of the second semester students of Tridinanti Palembang by using Think-Pair-Share strategy (TPR). This study was an action research study. The steps in conducting the study were planning, actions and observation of action and reflections. The population of the study was all of the second semester students of Tridinanti University in the academic year 2016/2017. The sample used one class (10students). The data collections used by the researcher were tests and observation. The learning improvement indicators included in two things; (1) learning achievement, (2) teaching and learning process. In the study, the implementation was conducted into two cycles. The results showed that the average score of studentsââ¬â¢ speaking achievement was 66 in cycle I and the observation result was 62.82. The result had not been reached the target yet that was >70. At least more than 85% students could achieve the score above 70. Thus, cycle II was necessary to be implemented. In cycle II, the average score of speaking test was 81and the observation result was 81.06. The students had reached the target and the cycle was stopped. In conclusion, the implementation of TPR had brought significant improvement to the studentsââ¬â¢ speaking achievement.

The objectives of this research were to find out the intrinsic elements and the moral values in Totto Chan: the Little Girl at the Window novel. This research employed descriptive qualitative as the method. The data were collected by using library research. Intrinsic elements involved theme, character and characterization, plot, setting and point of view. Moral values in this novel were honesty, willingness to take responsibilities, independence and humility. Research result showed that the education was applied well in Tomoe Gakuen. Tomoe Gakuen was the real form of a wanted dream school. Mr. Kobayashi asthe headmaster managed to create his dream school in Japan, even in the World War II period.

The main problem of this study was Is it effective to teach Passive Voice by using semantic map to the eleventh grade students of state Senior High School 9 Palembang. The method of this study was preexperimental method with one group pre-test and post-test design. The data were collected through two kinds of test, pretest and posttest. The data were analyzed by using the matched t-test. Based on the result of the data analysis, the students average score in the pre-test was 51,63, and the average score in the post-test was 63,68. The t-table of 5 % significance level was 1.684. It could be concluded the value of tobtained (7,21) was higher than the value of t-table (1.684). It means that Ho was rejected, and consequently Ha was accepted.

This study aimed to find out whether or not there was any significant difference in reading comprehension between the eighth grade students of Bina Jaya Junior High School Palembang who were taught by using K.W.L graphic organizer technique and those who were not. Seventy-two eighth graders were the sample of the study.The writers did an experimental method by using quasi-experimental design to the two groups of students. The VIII.3 class became the experimental group and the VIII.2 class was the control group. A reading comprehension test was an instrument to collect the data. The result found that the significant level was 0.000 < 0.05, so that (Ha) was accepted and (Ho) was rejected. So, there was a significant difference on studentsââ¬â¢ reading comprehension between the eighth grade students of Bina Jaya Junior High School Palembang who were taught by using KWL Graphic Organizer and those who were not.

A language may change its type over time as has happened with English which in the old English period was a synthetic language with many inflections and now is a rather analytic language with few grammatical endings that needs to be known and investigated. This study was aimed to find the types of sentence and phrase structures found in the narrative texts in English textbook. Based on the result of analysis, the data showed that every type of sentences occurred. The data also showed that not every phrase was occurred. Finally, it could be concluded that narrative texts consisted of every types of sentences and phrases to convey the meaning and story to the readers.

The objective of this research was to find out whether or not it was effective to teach skimming and scanning techniques in reading a narrative text by the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Gelumbang. The method used experimental. The population of this study was all tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Gelumbang. The sample of this study was 60 students. It indicated that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It could be concluded that it was effective to teach reading comprehension by using skimming and scanning techniques to the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Gelumbang.

This study was aimed at finding out (1)) whether or not there was a significant correlation between students reading attitude and their reading comprehension,. The data were collected by distributing questionnaire sheets and testing a reading comprehension test for 170 students. Pearson Product Moment Coefficients Correlation and Regression Analysis were used to find out whether or not there was a significant relationship between students reading attitude toward reading comprehension achievement of the fourth semester students of English education study program of FKIP Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang as well as their contribution. The findings of the study showed that, students reading attitude only had a very small contribution to their reading comprehension achievement.

The aim of this study was to find out whether it was effective or not to teach English vocabulary by using guessing game to the fifth grade students of Elementary school 117 Palembang. The population of this study was all the students of elementary school 117 Palembang in the academic year of 2016/2017 with the total number of students was 205. Meanwhile, the sample of the study was taken convenience sampling method. There were 40 students who were classified as the control group and 40 students who were classified as experimental group. The method of the study was quasi experimental method. In collecting the data, the researcher gave a test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used studentââ¬â¢s individual score, conversion score range, and t-test. Based on findings, independent sample t-test indicated that value of t-obtained was 5.046 at significant level p>0.005 for two-tailed test t-table is 1.9908. It was concluded that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. It is clear that teaching English vocabulary by using guessing game was effective to the fifth grade students of Elementary school 117 Palembang.
