AbstractÂ The problem of this study was âIs it significantly effective to use pictures to improve studentsâ speaking skill to the sixth semester students of English Education Study Program at STKIP PGRI Lubuklinggau?â. This study was conducted to find out whether it is significantly effective to use pictures to improve studentsâ speaking skill. There were two hypotheses; null hypotheses (H0) and alternative hypotheses (Ha). The sample of the study was 23 students which were taken through cluster random sampling. Research method of this study was pre-experimental with one group pre-test and post-test design. The writer used speaking test and analyzed the data by using conversion of score range, individual score, and match t-test. Based on the result of data analysis, it was found out that studentsâ average score in the pre-test was 46.43 and post-test was 60.54. Finally, the results of matched t-test calculation shows that the t-obtain was higher than t-table. The t-obtained was 31.37 while the t-table was 1.717. It means that the null hypotheses (Ho) was rejected and automatically the alternative hypotheses (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that it is significantly effective to teach speaking skill by using pictures.Â Keywords: Effectiveness, Speaking, Picture

This study was carried out based on the problems faced by the writer as a English teacher. Most of students have no motivation when they found difficulties especially in learning English. Furthermore, the reasons why the researcher used The Miracle worker film to be investigated: Firstly, this movie was made based on the true story. Secondly, it transferred moral values. Thirdly, it told efforts of a teacher, Annie Sullivan. The research problems were âWhat are social perspective of Helen Keller and what are moral values found in The Miracle Worker film?â The study employed a qualitative research which was intended to analyze Helen Kellerâs social life, social life at the society illustrated in that movie, and moral values found in the movie. The research instrument was investigator triangulation which referred to the use of more than one audience in the field to gather and interpret data. In conclusion the Miracle Worker was an inspirational movie because it told about a blind deaf woman to reach her goals. It delivered Helen Kellerâs experience detailing her early life. Moral values of the film were motivation, kindness, responsibility, honestly, empathy, and respect.Key words: Social perspective, the Miracle worker, moral value

The objectives of this research were to find out the intrinsic elements and the moral values in Totto Chan: the Little Girl at the Window novel. This research employed descriptive qualitative as the method. The data were collected by using library research. Intrinsic elements involved theme, character and characterization, plot, setting and point of view. Moral values in this novel were honesty, willingness to take responsibilities, independence and humility. Research result showed that the education was applied well in Tomoe Gakuen. Tomoe Gakuen was the real form of a wanted dream school. Mr. Kobayashi asthe headmaster managed to create his dream school in Japan, even in the World War II period.

The aim of this research is to develop the English reading materials in textbook used for students at Senior High School in Lubuklinggau, and to describe the efficacy of instructional design of reading materials for Students at Senior High School in Lubuklinggau. The Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 5 Lubuklinggau was the sample of this research. In addition, this research applied an Educational Research and Development (R & D) by using a simplified six steps of Borg and Gallâ€™s model. The six steps were: (1) collecting the research information,(2) planning and drafting the data of research, (3) developing the data of research based 2013 curriculum combined with the result, (4) giving tryout (field testing) to the 11th grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Lubuklinggau, (5) evaluating the English reading materials by the experts, and (6) producing the final product (English reading materials in textbook). The findings of this research showed that the English reading materials in textbook that were developed in this research fulfilled the criteria of R & D model. The instructional design as the specific English reading materials was very important and useful to support the studentsâ€™ reading activities that put not only building the intensive practice for reading comprehension, but also linking to grammar, enriching the vocabulary, and applying the studentsâ€™ knowledge. Moreover, through the English reading materials in textbook, the students could use it with the suitable and the valuable materials, and they must be motivated to increase their reading proficiency.

The aim of this research was to identify the category of students’ instrumental motivation and to describe the importance of instrumental motivation in the English learning process of English as Foreign Language (EFL) students. A quantitative descriptive method was used in this research to analyze the data. The subject of this research was 28 EFL students from the fourth semester students of English Education Study Program at STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau. The researchers used questionnaire and interview as instruments in obtaining the data investigation. Techniques for analysis the data were identification, calculation, classification, description and conclusion. The result of this research revealed that the students’ instrumental motivation was in strong category with total average 77.93 %. It meant that the categories level of motivation among the fourth semester students of English Education Study Program at STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau to study English is strong motivation. This proved that students had a very strong level of instrumental motivation. The students believed that a good way will be a good thing and motivation is enough to help them. With the aim of passing the exam, getting a job, having a better career, and getting a better future was their motivation in learning English. Automatically, it was proved that they had instrumental motivation, and it made them more motivated to achieve their goals though they learn English as foreign language. It indicated that instrumental motivation had an important role in the English learning process to the EFL students in English education study program at STKIP-PGRI Lubuklinggau. In summary, instrumental motivation was one of the factor that influenced the students to be success in learning a foreign language (English). This motivation was also very helpful in English learning process, because students who had this motivation show that they wanted to learn English seriously.

Film as A Media Used by Teachers to Teach Writing for Tertiary Level Students Ardayati Ardayati

The aim of this research was to find out whether or not it was significantly effective to use film as a media in teaching writing for tertiary level students. This study used preexperimental method which was focused on writing skill at the eleventh grade students of Senior High School Tugumulyo. The writer formulated two hypotheses; they were null hypothesis (Ho) and the alternative hypothesis (Ha). There were 352 students from nine classes as the population of this study. The sample was taken through cluster random sampling. The result was XI IA.2 class which consisted of 37 students. In this case, the writer collected the data by using writing test. Based on the findings, the result showed that tobtained was 6.38 where ttable was 1.697. It showed that tobtained was higher than ttable (tobtained more than ttable). Finally, the writer concludes that it was significantly effective to use film as media in teaching writing at the eleventh grade students of Senior High School Tugumulyo. The problem of in this study was formulated as follow: “Is it significant ly effective to teach reading by using Index Card Match strategy to the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Lubuklinggau?” The objective of this study was to find out whether or not it is significantly effective to teach reading by using Index Card Match strategy to the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Lubuklinggau. Method applied in this study was Pre-experimental method with one group pretest post-test design. The population for this study was all of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Lubuklinggau in the academic year of 2015/2016 which consistted of 306 students. The number of sample was 34 students Based on the result of data analysis, there were three major findings, 1) The mean score in the pre-test, it was 61.76, 2) The mean score in the post-test it was 76.18, and the result of matched t-test calculation showed that t obtained was 7.17, which was higher than 1.697 as the critical value of the t table for degree of freedom 33(34-1) with 95% significant level for one-tailed test. It means that it was significantly effective to teach reading by using index card match strategy to the eight grade students of SMP N 3 Lubuklinggau in the academic year of 2015/2016.

The objectives of this study were (1) to design speaking materials using task based language teaching for SMK Negeri 3 Lubuklinggau and (2) to describe the strengths and the weaknesses of the speaking materials using Task Based Language teaching for SMK Negeri 3 Lubuklinggau. This research include to Educational Research and Development (R&D) using a simplified six steps of Borg and Gall’s model (1983). The result present that the product relies much on pertaining the KD of 2013 curriculum and the teacher expected that the students need to increase speaking skill since they have opportunity to speak English. The speaking materials were in line with students wants. The strengths of this product helped students to improve their speaking skill especially the vocabularies, the language function and the grammar used in spoken language. The tasks can attract the students to actively involve the teaching and learning process.

The Objective of this research was to find out whether or not it was significantly effective after applying Concept Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI) Strategy in teaching reading comprehension to secondary education level students. The subject of this research was eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 13 Lubuklinggau. This strategy was applied by using pre-experimental method with one group pretest-posttest design. The total population was 110 students and sample of the research was 28 students. The data was collected through test in the form of multiple choice which consisted of 25 test items. The data was analyzed by using four techniques : 1) Students’ individual score, 2) Minimum mastery criteria, 3) Normality testing and 4) Pairedt-test calculation. The result of the research showed that students’ mean score in the pre-test was 64.00 while students’ mean score in the post-test was 76.00. Finally, the result of paired t-test was 11.43 which was higher than 1.703. It showed clearly that the null hypotheses (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypotheses (Ha) was accepted. It can be concluded that Concept Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI) Strategy was effective in teaching reading comprehension to secondary education level students at SMP Negeri 13 Lubuklinggau.
