Abstract

AbstractBasically, children can learn language naturally even when theyhave not gone to the formal school yet. Parents and teachers shouldgive many different stimuli, such as telling them stories to promotetheir literacy. Every stimuli exposed to young learners will be such agood input toward their language development. As we know literacyis a foundation for lifelong learning. It is a tool of personalempowerment and a means for social and human development. However, several international literacy assessment institutionsfound that literacy rate in Indonesia was very low. Monotonous andboring classroom instructions seem to be among demotivatingfactors for young learners to learn. Children are naturally activelearners and thinkers. They learn best through interaction withpeers and learn effectively with adults. Storytelling may enable thiscondition since young learners love stories. This paper will discusscharacteristics of young learners and their learning experience aswell as the rationale for using storytelling to develop literacy inEnglish as a foreign language.Key words: Significance, promoting, literacy, young children, storytelling

Abstract

Abstract— This study attempts to critically analyze the practices of foreign language teaching particularly English which commonly pay less attention to the accompanying intercultural communication and also to propose an alternative solution to support and promote the character education in this country. It is commonly believed that the practices of the English language teaching are always accompanied by the insertion of foreign cultural values which are not always in harmony with our own values. In line with the national education goals, it seems that the most possible way to overcome this problem is by integrating the Indonesian local cultural values in the practices of the English language teaching to promote character education, which is commonly believed to play important roles in encouraging, improving, and maintaining the spirit of nationalism of our future generation Keywords— local culture, teaching and learning, English, character education Abstrak— Kajian ini hendak mencoba menelaah secara kritis praktek-praktek pembelajaran bahasa asing khususnya Bahasa Inggris yang umumnya kurang memperhatikan aspek akulturasi budaya yang menyertainya dan juga mencari alternatif solusi pemecahannya demi mendukung tercapainya pendidikan yang berbasis character building di negara ini.

Both data were analyzed using the t-test to see the mean difference (1) between the pre-and post-test students' speaking achievement and their self-confidence, and (2) the post-test of speaking achievement and their self-confidence between the first and second groups. Regression analysis was provided to see the contribution of case building to the variables in question. This study found that case buiding technique could improve the students’ learning interest and learning achievement.

Digital learning innovation in the modern educational era has become a crucial factor in enhancing the quality of education and addressing the challenges faced by the current educational system. This study aims to explore the benefits, challenges, and implications of digital-based learning, particularly in the context of education in Indonesia. Through a literature review method, this research collects and analyzes information from various literature sources, including books, scholarly articles, and official documents. The findings indicate that digital learning provides broader access for students, especially in remote areas, and can enrich their learning experiences. However, challenges such as limited technological infrastructure and the need for teacher training must be addressed to optimize the implementation of digital learning. Therefore, it is essential for all stakeholders to collaborate in developing effective strategies for the implementation of digital learning innovations. This research is expected to contribute to the development of education in Indonesia and serve as a reference for future studies.
