Abstract

The instrumentalization of education has an impact on the reduction of educational objectives, which should be based on the development of all human potential, namely, intellectual, moral, and spiritual dimensions. Studies on the instrumentalization of education generally focus only on pedagogical and practical aspects, while philosophical analysis remains relatively under-researched. This article examines the implications of Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas's thinking for the objectives of Islamic education, focusing on the problem of the instrumentalization of education through philosophical (ontological, epistemological, and axiological) analysis. This study uses a library research method with a conceptual analysis of Al-Attas's works and relevant literature. The results of the study show that the instrumentalization of education stems from ontological errors in understanding the meaning and essence of humanity, leading to an epistemological narrowing that has given rise to a utilitarian axiology. As a constructive alternative foundation, Al-Attas emphasizes the concept of ta’dib through the internalization of Islamic education, which understands the meaning of knowledge as a means of forming civilized and holistic human beings. This study highlights the significance of Al-Attas's ideas in redefining the objectives of Islamic education in the modern era.

Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum requires a supportive educational ecosystem in which collaboration between schools and parents plays a strategic role. This study aims to analyze how school–parent association partnership management enhances the effectiveness of Merdeka Curriculum implementation at Guslah 1, Bangil. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, the research involved key stakeholders, including the school principal, vice principal for curriculum, teachers, parent association or school committee leaders, and actively involved parents. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, and analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by triangulation techniques to ensure credibility. The findings reveal that effective partnership management functions as a systemic ecosystem that facilitates shared understanding, acceptance, and consistent curriculum implementation. At the planning stage, collaborative and structured coordination ensures role clarity, program alignment, and transparent communication. During implementation, organized parental involvement supports learning continuity, character development, student self-development, and the legitimacy of school programs. Furthermore, collaborative monitoring and evaluation strengthen accountability, improve student engagement, and increase parental acceptance of curriculum changes. The study concludes that POAC-based (Planning, Organizing, Actuating, and Controlling) partnership management at Guslah 1, Bangil represents a professional, participatory, and adaptive governance model that integrates family engagement and local values of gotong royong, thereby contributing significantly to the contextual and sustainable implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of partnerships between schools and parent associations (school committees) in enhancing the effectiveness of the Merdeka Curriculum implementation at the Early Childhood Education (ECE) level. The focus of the study encompasses the processes of planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating partnerships, as well as their contribution to improving the quality of educational services. This research employed a qualitative approach with a multisite study design conducted at TK Muslimat 16 Tanwirul Hijaa and TK PGRI 4 in Bangil District, Pasuruan Regency. Data were collected through limited participatory observation, in-depth semi-structured interviews with principals, teachers, and parent association administrators, and document analysis. Data analysis was carried out interactively through the stages of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data trustworthiness was ensured through source and technique triangulation, member checking, and prolonged field involvement. The research findings indicate that school–parent partnership management that is planned participatively and implemented systematically is able to increase active parental involvement, strengthen support for learning based on the Merdeka Curriculum, and enhance satisfaction with ECE services. Effective partnerships are reflected in intensive two-way communication, parental involvement as guest teachers and home project mentors, and the collaborative execution of program evaluations. These findings confirm that horizontal and transformational partnership governance constitutes a key strategy to optimize children's growth and development achievements and to sustain the quality of early childhood education services.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Qur’anic Reading and Writing Program (Baca Tulis Al-Qur’an/BTQ) in shaping students’ religious character at MI Al-Azhar Sambongdukuh Jombang. The study employed a qualitative approach with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings revealed that the BTQ program was implemented through habituation in reading and memorizing the Qur’an, teachers’ role modeling, and continuous guidance integrated into daily school activities. Through these activities, students showed improvement in their ability to read and write the Qur’an, while also developing disciplined, responsible, patient, and respectful attitudes toward teachers and their surrounding environment. The findings further indicate that the BTQ program is closely aligned with Thomas Lickona’s character education theory, which emphasizes the integration of moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action in character formation. Students not only understood religious values cognitively, but also began to develop a love for reading the Qur’an and applying its values in their daily lives. However, the implementation of the program still faced several challenges, including differences in students’ abilities, limited instructional time, and insufficient parental assistance at home. Therefore, stronger collaboration between the madrasah and parents is needed to ensure that the development of students’ religious character can be carried out optimally and sustainably.

Abstract

The family plays a vital role as the "madrasatul ula" (first school) in shaping the foundation of children's character, including instilling religious tolerance from an early age to prevent discrimination and social conflict in a multicultural society. This study aimed to analyze the role of the family in implementing religious tolerance in early childhood. Employing a quantitative approach with a descriptive design, this study targeted all parents of students at TK Muslimat NU 8 Panggungrejo, Kepanjen, Malang as the population. Sampling was conducted using a purposive sampling technique, resulting in 22 respondents who completed a closed-ended questionnaire (40 statement items) via Google Forms. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics assisted by IBM SPSS Statistics. The findings revealed that the family's role in implementing religious tolerance in children falls into the High Category. This is evidenced by an overall mean score of 4.23 with a homogeneous standard deviation of 0.56, and an accumulative average total score of 169.27 out of a maximum score of 200 (equivalent to 84.6%). The high involvement of the family is driven by democratic parenting styles, direct parental role modeling aligned with social learning theory, open communication channels, and inclusive family activities. This study concludes that the family serves as a strategic foundation for strengthening character education to foster religious moderation from an early age and maintain social harmony.
