Abstract

The concept of michi-no-eki has become a pilot study in several countries, such as Kenya and China, due to having been proven to be able to overcome the issue of inequality in areas crossed by roads. This research intends to analyze the implementation of the michi-no-eki concept on a road platform model in Kulon Progo Regency as a support for business branding. The method used is a comparative case study in Michi-no-eki in Japan to determine the basic considerations that can be implemented in the road platform design strategy in Kulon Progo Regency. The research results explain the recommendations for road platform models in Kulon Progo as supporting business branding, namely 1) located on National Road 3; 2) Has a rest function for road users with additional worship facilities; providing tourism information for road users and health facilities for local communities, and training facilities as well as direct selling depots for superior local products; 3) Accommodate the development of the community of artists, farmers and MSMEs; 4) Promote local agricultural products and processed products; and 5) implementing building architectural prototypes according to Kulon Progo Regent Regulation No. 87 of 2018 concerning Building Architectural Prototypes with Typical Kulon Progo Characteristics.

Abstract

This paper explores the initial stages of design from issues, context, to problems related to the development of real and virtual technology, especially the phenomenon of inhabitation in the library building. The aim of this design-based research is to increase motivation and learning effectiveness, as well as maintain the function of the physical library building in the future with integrative virtual technology. The data collection method uses literature reviews as secondary data, and naturalistic research methods as primary data to validate theory and produce aspects and principles of inhabitation in real and virtual contexts that can be applied in library.. The results of this research are the concept of imaginative space elements that represent inhabitation patterns in various interactions and atmospheres in library design. The benefit of the research is knowing how the integrative application of technology in libraries can improve and develop the function of reading and learning spaces interactively and effectively.

Abstract

The cultural center is a place used to accommodate all arts and culture activities. The East Java Cultural Park is a building complex designed to promote and preserve East Javanese culture. In appearance, the East Java Cultural Park at first glance applies the Javanese architectural style. However, in this building it is not yet known to what extent the Javanese architectural appearance was used. This research was conducted to identify the Javanese architectural appearance of the TBJT building. Qualitative research using a descriptive critical method approach was applied to this research. Data was collected through direct observation, interviews and analysis of literature related to the application of Javanese architectural symbolism in TBJT. The results of this research are that TBJT has a symbolic meaning in Javanese architecture which can be seen from the appearance of the TBJT building. However, this application does not fully follow the rules of Javanese architectural appearance because there is an amalgamation of other styles, namely colonial architecture. It is hoped that this research can provide a deeper understanding of the application of Javanese architectural symbolism to the appearance of the East Java Cultural Park.

Abstract

The SDGs discuss the need for public spaces in the 11th component, namely the provision of public spaces and green open spaces that are safe, inclusive and easily accessible, especially for women and children, the elderly and people with disabilities. This encourages the planning of a public space in Purworejo Regency which is also in line with the development objectives of Purworejo Regency in the Regional Regulation of Purworejo Regency Number 11 of 2021. This research focuses on identifying and determining design strategies for public spaces with sustainable concepts. The method of theoretical studies with comparative analysis to determine the program and site of public spaces with sustainable concepts, then draw conclusions that produce design strategies. The result of this research is a design strategy for the implementation of sustainable concepts in public spaces in Purworejo Regency.

Abstract

The ability of the Arab ethnic group to mingle with the indigenous community and the rulers of Palembang City led to cultural acculturation, including in architecture. The aim of this research is to identify the forms of architectural acculturation that occur in Arab ethnic houses in the village of Al-Munawar 13 Ulu Palembang and to find the architectural typology of these houses. The research method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. The results of the research found that the architectural acculturation that occurred in Arab ethnic house buildings in Al-Munawar village did not lead to new architectural styles but one style became dominant over the other styles. Rumah Tinggi and Rumah Darat where the Palembang architectural style has become more dominant than the Arabic architectural style, while in the Rumah Batu, Land Twin House, Glass House, and Sea Twin House the colonial architectural style has become very dominant over the Palembang and Arab architectural styles.

Abstract

This study focuses on the role of shared-space in the Rusunawa environment in creating functional attachment for residents in the Rusunawa Mojosongo. Functional attachment can occur when a person's needs are met in a setting of place. Place attachment can make a better quality of life. Shared-space as a public open space in the Rusunawa must be able to provide shared facilities that can meet the needs of the residents of the Rusunawa functionally. Uses & activities, access & linkage, green spaces existence, and their environmental response in the Shared-spaces are studied as aspects of Functional Engagement. Observations and interviews were conducted with Rusunawa residents who have lived since the inception of the Rusunawa, and how residents use the shared space for their daily activities. Result shows that shared space has a vital role in the neighborhood even in public housing to create the functional attachment as attempt to create attachment to the place.

Abstract

Environmental challenges stemming from the escalating volume of waste necessitate innovative solutions, one of which involves utilizing waste as a raw material for building materials. However, prevailing research in this domain has predominantly concentrated on their characteristics/performances, with a notable dearth in discussions pertaining to consumer-centric aspects. The objective of this research is to examine public responses, comprehension levels, and considerations associated with the utilization of waste-derived materials. Therefore, the development of waste-derived materials can be facilitated towards mass production. Employing qualitative research methods, this research unveils misconceptions surrounding waste-derived materials, as well as the readiness and the consideration aspects, such as material characteristic/performance, sustainability, economic factors, aesthetics, functionality, availability, and knowledge. The findings are anticipated to contribute insights for decision-making processes, policy formulation, and industrial practices, fostering the informed integration of waste-derived materials in the construction and related sectors.

Abstract

Climatic architecture is becoming a popular concept as it addresses issues of climate change, economy, and building health. The pandemic has heightened awareness of the importance of cross-ventilation, bringing the climatic concept back into focus for the design of new buildings and the development of existing ones. This study aims to: 1) Identify the characteristics of urban village houses with attached homes focused on thermal comfort, 2) Determine climatic design criteria for attached houses, 3) Understand the application of climatic concepts in attached houses. The methodology used is descriptive quantitative, with data from field conditions and references from journals. The results indicate that in addition to window placement aligned with wind direction, the use of wind chimneys and rain harvesting systems can be implemented in houses in densely built villages. This research is expected to provide knowledge about climatic architecture and offer solutions for its application in contemporary building design.
