Abstract

Inaccuracy in choosing and using the type of measurement will result in biased research findings. Measurements commonly used in architectural research are objective, subjective, or objective-subjective (mixed) measurements. This article will discuss mixed measures (objective and subjective) in architectural research. Researchers can analyze field data using a quantitative approach, while subjective measurement data are analyzed using a qualitative approach. The results of the interpretation of the two types of measures can show convergence or divergence. This article aims to reveal the benefits and challenges of combining objective and subjective measurements in architectural research, based on systematic literature reviews in scientific journals, which have successfully used objective-subjective measurements and outlines the various benefits and challenges. This study shows that using objective-subjective measures in architectural research can be beneficial if done in an appropriate context.

Abstract

Pontianak City has six housing that have been built and inhabited. It is interesting to see the use of the housing by the occupants. There is a fact that the circulation route of Harapan Jaya Housing is not fully utilized according to plan. The purpose of this research is to reveal which of these circulation pathways are used by the occupants and identifying potential circulation pathways. The research focuses on circulation issues, which connectivity between areas has succeeded in supporting the occupants’s activities. The data collection method was carried out by field observations and interviews with the occupants to confirm the observations results. The analysis method uses depthmapX-space syntax software with an axial map to determine the level of connectivity and integration that occurs. This study also simulated the addition of alternative circulation pathways. The results indicate that the addition of circulation paths can improve connectivity within the housing area. Efficient and functional connectivity in housing can use two models of circulation path, namely linear or grid.

Abstract

This paper focuses on the implementation of the concept of self-sufficiency in energy and food into residential buildings by adding agricultural facilities. There is still no specific literature on the application of self-sufficiency in residential buildings with urban agricultural facilities. Current literature. The current literature discusses self-suffiency in general, or the application of one aspect of self-suffiency in buildings, such as energy. In addition, the scale of discussion on large-scale self-sufficiency and not specific to residential buildings with urban agricultural facilities Therefore, this article can be one of the literature that discusses self-sufficiency specifically in residential buildings with urban agricultural facilities and on a microscale. Using theories from Mahdi, Magdalenna and Suharyanto , we formulate how to apply the self-sufficiency concept to the residential building by calculating the food and energy needed by the residents and how to achieve it. This project is a model of how to achieve self-sufficiency in residential buildings
