Abstract

This study aims to examine moral values based on semiotic studies by applying Roland Barthes' theory. This study uses an approach as well as a method, namely descriptive qualitative. In addition, the research data is the text of a short story entitled Jimat Malowopati by Tegsa Teguh Striyo which is one of the short stories from a collection of short stories titled Covid-19 with the title Short story #ProsaDiRumahAja owned by Putu Fajar Arcana. The results of this study found that there were three types of moral values in the short story Jimat Malowopati by Tegsa Teguh Satriyo, namely social moral values, religious moral values wrapped in culture, and individual cultural values. This moral value is dominantly represented through two characters in the short story, namely Mbah Girut and Kang Subur. Through this research, the researcher hopes that there will be further studies that can improve this research.

Abstract

Myths and legends have been told from generation to generation by being spoken from thousands of years ago. Myth in Chinese language is Shen hua (神话), shen means god, spirit and holy; hua is a saying, a fairy tale, an oral story. In the movie “Over the Moon”, there are characters in Chang'e’s legend story, such as Hou Yi, even the Jade rabbit appears in the movie. The portrayal of Chang'e's character in the film has undergone several changes and “Alih Wahana” by filmmaker's. Therefore, researchers are interested in analyzing the depiction of Chang'e in the film "Over the Moon". The purpose of this research is to analyze the portrayal of Chang'e's character in the film "Over the Moon". This study uses qualitative research methods with data collection techniques in the form of documentation from the film "Over the Moon". The approach used is a narrative approach that focuses on the study of an individual. Chang'e's character in the film has changed from the story in the Chang'e legend, some of these changes are character and visual changes. Chang'e's character in the film is made narcissistic because of her loneliness, while Chang'e's visuals in the film are made attractive with bold makeup and magnificent and diverse clothing.

Abstract

This study is an attempt to discuss (1) what Hinduism is. (2) what the concept of reincarnation is.(3) what aspects of Hinduism reflected in Poe’s tales “Ligeia” and “Morella”. This study used American Studies theory that is the reconciliation of time (past, present, future), of space and of academic disciplines that are philosophical, historical, and literary approaches. The literary approach used, in this case, is the expressive one. The method applied in this study is analytical descriptive that utilizes library research and concentrates the attention on reference sources related to the topic discussed. The Result of the study shows that there are the aspects of Hinduism namely the wandering spirit and the reincarnation. In Poe’s tales, “Ligeia” and “Morella” the wandering spirit happens when they died. Ligeia, the main character reincarnate into Rowena and Rowena becomes Ligeia again. Morella reincarnates into her baby, Morella. It is the same name.

Abstract

Startups are growing massively at the national and international level. Many applications with similar features are available in application markets. This demands application developers to present their competitive advantage to convince users to download and use their applications. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with functional systemic linguistic approach to identify the elements that make up the genre of application description. The data in this study are application descriptions from the 10 best startups according to startupranking.com. The data, in the form of clauses, were analyzed based on three language metafunctions, namely ideational, textual and interpersonal. The results of this study indicate that there are certain patterns used by the application descriptions of the 10 best startups in the world. The most common linguistic elements found are: the use of process materials to describe experiences in using applications; the use of relational attributive processes to provide assessments and descriptions of applications; the use of rhemes without themes and residues without subjects in imperative sentences that aim to invite readers to download applications; the use of textual themes which are manifested in conjunctions; and some interpersonal themes in the form of rhetorical interrogative sentences.

Abstract

The Javanese are the largest ethnic group in Indonesia. Javanese society has a characteristic that is fond of carrying out traditions related to life, such as the life cycle tradition, namely the neloni tradition. The people in Ponorogo Regency are Javanese people who have lived through a long period and various problems related to their lives so that a cultural system is formed in their identity. The neloni tradition according to the Ponorogo community is a tradition to ask for safety and blessings when a pregnant woman is about three months old. In the neloni tradition, there are offerings or sharpening devices. Sharpening has various forms and names. The focus of this research examines the meaning of "name" or "term" asahan as a prayer medium in the Neloni traditional ceremony in Ponorogo Regency. Asahan can be in the form of offerings or food that is formed according to the purpose of holding the traditional ceremony. The method of collecting data is done using interviews and observations of the community who carry out the tradition and who understand the tradition in Ponorogo Regency. After analyzing the data, the results obtained are 17 names of asahan which have the meaning of a medium of prayer asking for safety, happiness, and performance.

Abstract

The global outbreak of Covid-19 has emerged as one of the most devastating and challenging threats to all peoples of the world. The purpose of this study is to identify the theme and topic of Covid-19 on the pattern of public health message communication on social media Radar Banyumas. The spread of Covid-19 disease was found to correlate with social media activity as a tool to promote Covid-19 News. Topic modeling revealed from time to time in the Radar Banyumas mass media can help understand the impact of the outbreak on the emotions, beliefs, and thoughts of the affected communities. This can open up great opportunities for proper education and dissemination of information on public health recommendations. This study shows that data from Banyumas Radar mass media is useful for infodemiology studies. This topic modeling consistently categorizes public health messages, risk factors, pandemic situations, the impact of Covid-19, measures to slow the spread of Covid-19, preventive measures, health authorities and government policies, negative psychological reactions, social stigma related to Covid-19, Covid-19 cases, Covid-19 in Banyumas, and Covid-19 cases in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the language that contains elements of social criticism in the novel Manjali dan Cakrabirawa by Ayu Utami using stylistic theory. The data source of this research is the novel Manjali dan Cakrabirawa by Ayu Utami published by PT. Kepustakaan Populer Gramedia. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The results showed that the language used to convey Ayu Utami's social criticism in her novel, namely 1) language related to historical events, 2) language embodied in songs, 3) language using foreign terms, 4) language related to mystical elements., 5) language related to eroticism, and 6) language of wordplay/Spoonerism Language.
