Abstract

The learning method applied on chemistry study nowadays is still one-way; students act as listeners and are not active on learning processes in the classroom. The goal to be achieved on this research was to determine the effect of cooperative leraning model make a match type on compounds and chemical equations naming topic towards the students’ learning outcome and to their critical thinking skill of X grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Dampelas consisting of 6 classes. 2 classes were taken as samples by purposive sampling; 28 students of class XE as control class and 28 students of class XF as the experimental class. The research instruments used were tests and observation sheet. Descriptive and inferential statistics analysis methods were used asthe data analysis technique. Statistics analysis of right side t-test was used for testing the research data. The average score of learning outcome achieved as the research result were 78.96 of experimental class and 60.92 of control class and the average score of critical thinking skill were 74.75 for the experimental class and 65.75 for the control class. The research result showed that the use of cooperative learning model make a match type on compounds and chemical equation naming topic made the students’ learning outcome and crictical thinking skill better.

Abstract

Snowball throwing learning model is a modification of aquastion technique. This technique is focused on the ability to formulate questions which are combined in a game called snowball throwing. SMILES is a simple chemical notation comprehensive where the scructures of molecules can be found by using ASCII character which representing atom and bond symbol. The study aim is to determine the influence of snowball throwing assisted learning model SMILES code on hydrocarbon material to the learning outcomes of students clas XI in SMA Negeri 5 Palu. This study is experimental with pretest and posttest control group design, in which the samples are students of class XI IPA 2 (n=33) as experimental group while students of clas XI IPA 4 (n=32) as control group. The testing data used t-test statistical analysis one side (right) with pre-requisite test, normality test and homogeneity. The result of data analysis are the score of X1 experiment class is 73.81 with standard deviation is 8.19 while score of X2 control group is 65 with standard deviation is 14.36. Based on testing hypothesis result that tcounted>ttable is 3.05 > 1.67 with significance level 0.05 and confidence level = 63. The results show that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted then it is concluded that the application of Snowball Throwing assisted learning model SMILES code on hydrocarbon material positively influence to the learning outcomes of students class XI in SMA Negeri 5 Palu.

Abstract

A research on the extraction of lead(II) ion has been done using emulsion liquid membrane technique. This research used a laboratory experiment method by using benzoyl acetone as a carrier, paraffin liquid as the membrane, a solution of nitric acid as an internal phase, Span-80 as a surfactant, and lead(II) solution as the sample. This research was conducted to determine the optimum extraction condition of lead(II) ions in solution which includes the span-80 concentration variations (2 - 5%) and the pH of the external phase variations (2 – 4). Determination of the concentration of lead(II) ions in the external phase is done using a Spectro Direct. The results showed that the concentration of span-80 that produces a maximum extraction percentage is 3%. Moreover, the pH of the external phase which produces the maximum percentage extraction at pH 2 with extraction percentage of 74.36%.

Abstract

Research on the antioxidant activity test has been done on red fruit (pandanus baccari L) from Poso area Central Sulawesi. This research was conducted by laboratory experiments using maceration extraction techniques, DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-pikrilhidrazil) as free radicals, vitamin C as positive control, UV-Vis spectronic as a tool for antioxidant test, and red fruit extracts as samples. The aim of this research was to determine antioxidant strength of red fruit extracts. The red fruit sample was used as much as 30 grams, and the solvent was an absolute ethanol, whereas variations in the concentration of red fruit extracts used were 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 60 ppm, and 80 ppm. Antioxidant activity test was done by using a UV-Vis spectronic and IC50. The results showed that the red fruit extracts had strong antioxidant activity with the percentage of optimum activity in inhibiting free radical by 81.02%, and the IC50 value was 14.454 ppm.

Abstract

Research has been conducted to determine the level of vitamin C by a visible spectrophotometer, and a metal content of potassium (K) from pumkin sample (Cucurbita Moschata) by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). Measuring the levels of vitamin C in the sample performed at a wavelength (λ) = 510 nm and measuring the levels of potassium in the sample performed at a wavelength (λ) = 766,5 nm. The results obtained by the levels of vitamin C is sample A (pumpkin from Jono oge village) obtained at 6 mg/L, sample B (pumpkin from Sidera village) obtained at 4,5 mg/L, and sample C (pumpkin from Toro village) obtained at 0,97 mg/L. While the metal content of potassium is sample A (pumpkin from Jono oge village) obtained at 23,22 mg/L, sample B (pumpkin from Sidera village) obtained at 22,22 mg/L, and sample C (pumpkin from Toro village) obtained at 20,22 mg/L. These data indicate that the levels of vitamin C and potassium sample A higher than sample B and C.

Abstract

Testing of antioxidant activity of binahong (anredera cordifolia (tenore) steenis) leafs extracts has been done with 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The aim of this research was to determine the antioxidant activity of binahong leafs extracts. Concentration of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH ) after addition of binahong leafs extracts was determined using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. Various concentrations of binahong leafs extracts were 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 60 ppm and 80 ppm. Vitamin C was the positive control used at similar variation concentrations, whereas DPPH solution dissolved in absolute ethanol was as the negative control. The results showed that the IC50 values obtained for binahong leafs extracts and vitamin C were 40.27 ppm and 49.20 ppm. Based on the IC50 data, it can be seen that binahong leafs extracts are stronger antioxidant than vitamin C.

Abstract

Rice straw is an agricultural waste into organic waste further. Rice straw can be utilized as an alternative energy that is bioethanol. The objective of this research was to determine the optimal concentration of ethanol by the duration of fermentation. This research applied fermentation to rice straw using yeast bread in various times of 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, and 22 days. The steps of this research were sample preparation, delignification, hydrolysis, and fermentation. Bioethanol from fermented rice straw was analysed using alcoholmeter. The products of fermented ethanol increased and reached the optimum at day 13, which was 4.83+0.05%, then decrease the ethanol content at day 16, 19, and 22.

Abstract

Research on the solubility of calcium has been conducted using meniran (phillanthus niruri L.) plant extracts by varying concentrations. This research was conducted by laboratory experiments using meniran plant extracts as samples in dissolving calcium phosphate as a substitute for kidney stones. Meniran is a type of acidic herbal plant extract which contains flavonoids and potassium, so it can dissolve calcium. This study was conducted to determine the most effective concentration of meniran plant extracts from the variation concentration (2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10%) in dissolving calcium, and also to determine the effectiveness of this extract compared to Batugin Elixir and distilled water. Determination of the concentration of dissolved calcium in meniran plant extracts was done by a flame photometer. The results showed concentration of 10% of meniran plant extract was effective in dissolving calcium whichwas equal to 46.1 ppm. However, Batugin Elixir was more effective in dissolving calcium with a concentration equal to 58.2 ppm, while distilled water can dissolve the calcium only equal to 4.8 ppm.
