Abstract

ABSTRACT: The process of globalization is now entering almost all aspects of human life. The process of globalization is due to the acceleration of innovation and its application in science and technology. All phenomena of globalization have had the implications in the field of education, including the education system in Indonesia. In the context of the teaching-learning process, for example, it seems to have been and will being changing, in pertaining with the development of science and information technology, that is emergencing of an e-learning phenomenon (learning through electronic media) and the application of multi-media technology in the learning process. Therefore, education in Indonesia must be ready to welcome the phenomena of globalization with all its challenges and responses. Indeed, the education sector in Indonesia is still a "cinderella" (step child) in the process of nation building. Institute for R & D (Research and Development) is also still being accessories and not yet functioning optimally. It is appropriate if the Indonesia government and society to change the paradigm and to reorient about the critical role of education as a vehicle, not only to educate and advance the nation-state but also to improve the quality of the HR (Human Resources) that are creative and innovative, have a work ethic and high morale, and able to stand up right in order parallel to the other nation-states in the world.KEY WORD: Globalization, science and technology, education, economic development, human resources, creative and innovative, and work ethic. About the Authors: Dr. M. Abstract

ABSTRACT: The Council Regulation on the protection of animals during killing, No.1099/2009, came to apply from 1st January 2013 onwards. This regulation lays down rules for the killing of animals bred for the production of food, wool, fur, or other products as well as the killing of animals for the purpose of depopulation and for related operations. The Council Regulation also emphasizes the meaning of education, competence, and self-monitoring as means to improve the welfare of animals during killing. It encourages the making of guides to good practice in order to help business operator to plan and monitor the killing process accordingly. The Code of Good Practice (CGP) in humane killing of foxes is created for that purpose. The present CGP aims at providing the highest standards of welfare for farmed foxes (Blue fox Vulpes lagopus, Silver fox Vulpes vulpes, and their colour variants and crossings) in killing. The regulation states many acceptable killing methods for foxes. The key aspects and parameters affecting the humanity of killing of those methods are presented in CGP. However, more practical and detailed description of killing is given for the most used killing method – electrocution. As well as describes the key parameters, the CGP also gives examples of how and why these parameters are to be monitored. According to Council Regulation, all business operators are obligated to plan the killing procedures ahead by drawing up a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). The CGP gives practical instructions for planning the content of SOP and examples of how the carrying out of SOP should be reported. KEY WORD: Council Regulation, protection of animals, guides to good practice, humane killing of foxes, standard operating procedure, and monitoring. About the Author: Prof. Dr. Hannu T. Abstract

ABSTRACT: “The Role of Tudang Sipulung/Appalili’s Culture and its Affected Factors to Change the Cultural Value of Agriculture in South Sulawesi”. The research was conducted in Gowa, Takalar, Wajo, Sidrap, and Pinrang districts. Data collection method of this study was observation, interviews, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). By interviewing each selected 2 respondent farmers from the rice producing centers; and 2 selected respondents that comes from out of rice producing center. The findings found that the culture of “tudang sipulung/appalili” has had a role in determining the minimum price of profit margin earned by farmers. Additionally, the role of this culture can be improved further if it is integrated with a variety of farming institutions, such as the Village Units Cooperative. The findings also showed that the changing factors of neglecting other local community cultures, not exceptly the “tudang sipulung/appalili” culture, so that not be applied is caused by the social changing in society, including cultures values have changed as a result of technology development, time, thinking paradigm, new innovations, and religious norms.KEY WORD: Culture of “tudang sipulung/appalili”, culture of agriculture, discussion, modern technology, new innovations, and social change.    About the Authors: Alham R.
