INSANCITA: Journal of Islamic Studies in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. This journal, with ISSN 2443-2776, was firstly published on February 5, 2016, in the context to commemorate the anniversary of HMI (Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam or Association of Islamic College’s Students) in Indonesia. The INSANCITA journal has been organized by the Alumni of HMI who work as Lecturers at the HEIs (Higher Education Istitutions) in Indonesia, since issue of February 2016 to date; and published by Minda Masagi Press, a publishing house owned by ASPENSI (the Association of Indonesian Scholars of History Education) in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia; and BRIMAN (Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia Academic Network) Institute in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, since issue of February 2018 to date. The articles published in INSANCITA journal are able to be written in English as well as in Indonesian and Malay languages. The INSANCITA journal is published every February and August. The INSANCITA journal is devoted, but not limited to, Islamic studies and any new development and advancement in the field of Islamic society. The scope of our journal includes: (1) Language and Literature in Islam; (2) Social Science and Humanities in Islam; (3) History and Philosophy of Education in Islam; (4) Economy and Business in Islam; (5) Science, Technology and Society in Islam; (6) Political, Cultural and Social Engineering in Islam; and (7) Visual Arts, Dance, Music, and Design in Islam.

Abstract

ABSTRAKSI: Seni khat merupakan salah satu khazanah Islam yang amat berharga dan mempunyai kedudukan istimewa dalam masyarakat Islam. Oleh itu, seni yang mengagungkan agama Islam ini harus diteruskan dan dituntut, serta tidak boleh dipersia-siakan. Objektif kajian ini ialah untuk menjelaskan cara memegang dan menggerakan pensil khat dengan menggunakan teknik “carta pai”, dengan dan kesannya terhadap penulisan khat yang betul. Pengkaji menggunakan kaedah latih tubi secara berulang kepada enam orang murid, melalui pemerhatian, dalam mengaplikasikan teknik “carta pai” semasa proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran di peringkat Sekolah Rendah di Malaysia. Dapatan kajian menunjukan bahawa dua orang murid boleh menguasai empat teknik yang dipelajari dengan baik, tetapi belum mahir dalam teknik menggerakan pensil khat melengkung dari arah atas ke bawah dan dari bawah ke atas. Manakala, seorang murid menguasai tiga teknik asas dan memerlukan penambahbaikan dalam teknik membuat garisan mendatar dan melengkung sisi. Seterusnya, tiga orang murid menunjukan prestasi yang baik, iaitu dapat menguasai ke semua teknik yang diajar secara ansur maju dan latih tubi berdasarkan kaedah “carta pai” yang diperkenalkan. Bagi menghasilkan tulisan khat yang betul, pengkaji menyarankan bahawa guru mesti memastikan murid dapat menguasai 5 teknik yang dicadangkan, dan dipantau setiap kali latih tubi dilakukan, agar murid menjadi kebiasaan dalam menulis seni khat.KATA KUNCI: Seni Khat; Pendidikan Islam; Teknik Pembelajaran; Murid Tahun 6 Sekolah Rendah; Kaedah Latih Tubi. ABSTRACT: “The Technique of Holding and Moving the Calligraphy Pencil Using the Method of Pie Chart by Pupils in Grade Six Year Primary School”. The art of calligraphy is one of the most precious treasures of Islam and has a special position in the Muslim community. Thus, art that glorify the Islamic religion should be pursued and prosecuted, and not be wasted. The objective of this study is to explain how to hold and move the calligraphy pencil by using “pie chart”, with and its impact on the right in handwriting. The method of repetitive drills to six pupils, through observations in applying the technique of “pie chart” during the process of teaching and learning in Primary School in Malaysia. The findings showed that two students can master the four techniques learned well, but not well versed in the technique of moving the calligraphy pencil for curve from the top down and from the bottom up. Meanwhile, a student mastered the three basic techniques and requires improvements in techniques to create horizontal lines and curved sides. Next, three pupils showed a good performance, which is able to master all the techniques that are taught through progression and drills based on a “pie chart” is introduced. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Allah is the ultimate educator of this world (rabbu al-‘alamin), including human beings. The results of His theistic education are in the forms of knowledge and various resources contained in humans’ souls. Then, He sent the Prophet to externalize the knowledge and resources into behaviors through Prophetic approach (al-Nubuwwah). This approach involves the following stages: tilawah, tazkiyah, and ta’lim. “Tilawah” is practiced through reading, examining, and studying the verses of Allah revealed in this world, as summarized in “Sunnatullah”, thus producing conclusions, theories, and knowledge. The process and results of the data (the verses) are then developed, internalized, and corrected through “tazkiyah”. This second stage prepares human beings to be ready to study life by combining dogmatic knowledge (al-Kitab) and the abstraction of their lives (al-Hikmah). This is the result of the third stage of the Prophetic approach, namely “ta’limu al-kitabi wa al-hikmah”. This article examines on those Prophetic approaches. Although the Prophetic approach is still in a conceptual stage, however, I invite teachers and educators to present this idea in the classrooms. We do not have to wait until this idea is elaborated in an operational lesson plan, but we can start from ourselves and from now. If we start learning activities, for example, we should present the intent only for worshipping Allah SWT. If we want to educate in that way, in fact, we have commenced a Prophetic approach.KEY WORD: Prophetic Approach; Tilawah; Tazkiyah; Ta’lim; Theory and Implementation. ABSTRAKSI: “Pendekatan Profetik: Perbincangan Awal Ihwal Teori Pedagogik Alternatif”. Allah SWT (Subhanahu Wa-Ta’ala) adalah pendidik hakiki atas alam semesta (rabbu al-‘alamin), termasuk manusia. Hasil pendidikan theistik ini ialah tersimpannya ilmu pengetahuan pada berbagai makhluk dan pada jiwa manusia. Kemudian Allah SWT mengirimkan Rasul untuk mengeksternalisasi ilmu pengetahuan tersebut, menjelaskannya dalam berbagai konteks, dan mencontohkannya dalam kehidupan nyata. Inilah yang disebut pendekatan Profetik, yang berlangsung dalam tiga tahap: tilawah, tazkiyah, and ta’lim. “Tilawah” dilakukan melalui kegiatan membaca, menelaah, dan mempelajari ayat-ayat yang dibentangkan Allah SWT pada alam semesta. Ayat-ayat tersebut disimpulkan dalam konsep Sunnatullah, yang merupakan serangkaian rumusan kesimpulan, teori, dan ilmu pengetahuan. Selanjutnya, hasil pengolahan data berupa ayat-ayat Tuhan itu dikembangkan, diinternalisasikan, dan dikoreksi melalui proses “tazkiyah”. Tahap Profetik yang kedua ini bertujuan menyiapkan manusia agar dia berkesiapan untuk mempelajari kehidupan dengan memadukan antara pengetahuan dogmatik (al-Kitab) dengan nilai-nilai dan pengalaman kehidupan (al-Hikmah). Ini adalah hasil ketiga dari pendekatan Profetik, yaitu “ta’limu al-kitabi wa al-hikmah”. Artikel ini mengkaji tentang pendekatan Profetik. Walaupun pendekatan Profetik ini masih dalam tahapan konseptual, walau bagaimanapun, saya mengajak para guru dan pendidik untuk menyajikan gagasan ini didalam kelas. Kita tidak harus menunggu sampai gagasan ini dielaborasi dalam bentuk rencana pembelajaran yang operasional, namun kita dapat melalui diri kita sendiri dan memulainya sekarang. Jika kita memulai kegiatan pembelajaran, misalnya, kita hendaknya bertujuan semata-mata untuk beribadah kepada Allah SWT. ABSTRAKSI: Isu dakwah di Sabah, Malaysia adalah antara yang menarik perhatian ramai pengkaji. Sementara itu, secara hakikat, Sabah merupakan sebuah negeri yang amat terkenal dengan sikap toleransi masyarakatnya yang berbilang bangsa, budaya, dan agama. Di saat masyarakat Islam dan Kristian di Semenanjung Malaysia berselisih faham tentang penggunaan kalimah Allah, masyarakat di Sabah masih mampu bertenang dan menjalani kehidupan seperti biasa. Dalam diam, Sabah mendahului negeri-negeri lain di Malaysia dari segi bilangan orang yang memeluk Islam. Ironinya, kebanyakan mereka adalah dari penganut agama Kristian. Berdasarkan kepada dua fakta ini, tentunya hal berkaitan aktiviti dakwah di Sabah wajar untuk dikongsikan. Penelitian ini membincangkan tentang peranan yang dimainkan oleh agensi-agensi kerajaan yang berkaitan dengan agama Islam, seperti JHEAINS (Jabatan Hal Ehwal Agama Islam Negeri Sabah), MUIS (Majlis Ugama Islam Sabah), dan JAKIM (Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia) berkaitan aktiviti dakwah. Selain itu, perbincangan tentang cabaran dakwah juga disentuh secara sepintas lalu; diikuti dengan tinjauan tentang program-program peng-Islam-an yang dijalankan. Akhir sekali, penelitian ini membuat refleksi terhadap usaha dakwah yang telah dijalankan. Meskipun perbincangan dan hasil kajian yang dilakukan pada 2008, namun perkembangan terkini juga diambil perkiraan dalam penulisan ini. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan kuantitatif bagi mendapatkan gambaran yang lebih menyeluruh. KATA KUNCI: Islam; Dakwah; Mualaf; Sabah; Agensi Kerajaan Berasaskan Islam. ABSTRACT: “Proselytization of Islam in Sabah, Malaysia: An Early Exploration”. Proselytization issue in Sabah, Malaysia were among those attracted many researchers. Meanwhile, in fact, Sabah is a state well-known for its tolerant community that consists of diverse races, cultures, and religions. During the time when the Muslim and Christian communities in Malaysia Peninsula were in disagreement about the usage of the term Allah, the community in Sabah still managed to remain calm and carried on with their daily activities. However, Sabah has unobstrusively become one of the states in Malaysia that is leading in terms of Islamic conversion. Ironically, many of the converts were Christians. Based on these two facts, matters revolving the activity of Islamic proselytization in Sabah ought to be discussed. This paper examines the role of Islamic government agencies, such as JHEAINS (Sabah State Institution for Islamic Religious Affairs), MUIS (Islamic Religious Body of Sabah), and JAKIM (Islamic Development Institution of Malaysia) in the activities of proselytization. Furthermore, a discussion on the challenges in proselytization will also be addressed briefly; followed by a review on the programmes that are being implemented. Consequently, this paper reflects on the efforts of proselytization that have taken place. Eventhough the discussion in this paper is a result of a research conducted in 2008, however current development related to the issues are also taken into consideration. Abstract

 ABSTRAKSI: Kajian ini bertujuan mengelaborasi peranan organisasi HMI (Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam) dan sumbangannya dalam pemikiran dan dakwah Islam di Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan sejarah dan kajian sosial-politik. Hasil kajian menunjukan bahwa peranan dan sumbangan HMI yang paling signifikan, di tengah-tengah gerakan Islam Indonesia, adalah pembaharuan pemikiran Islam yang bertujuan untuk membangun nilai-nilai baru dalam doktrin Islam. HMI merupakan organisasi mahasiswa Islam yang tertua dan terbesar di Indonesia, yang lahir pada tahun 1947, dalam suasana revolusi kemerdekaan Indonesia. Karena HMI merupakan organisasi yang tumbuh dan berkembang dalam lanskap sosial dan politik Indonesia, maka HMI merupakan organisasi yang berbeda dengan yang ada di negara-negara Islam lainnya di dunia. Dari pengalaman dan perjalanan sejarahnya yang panjang dan penuh dinamika itu, HMI memiliki corak pemikiran dan dakwah yang khas, yakni usaha untuk memadukan nilai-nilai ke-Islam-an dan ke-Indonesia-an dalam suatu kerangka pikir dan paradigma, yang bisa dirumuskan dalam visi, misi, dan program yang nyata. Berdasarkan kerangka pikir dan paradigma khas tersebut, yaitu mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai ke-Islam-an dan ke-Indonesia-an, dengan sifat independensinya, maka HMI bisa memberikan solusi terhadap masalah dan kondisi masyarakat Indonesia yang sangat beragam dan dinamis ini. KATA KUNCI: Mahasiswa Islam; Gerakan Dakwah; Ke-Islam-an dan Ke-Indonesia-an; Masyarakat Muslim Indonesia; Modern, Sejahtera, dan Beradab. ABSTRACT: “The Movement of Islamic Students Association in Thinking and Preaching in Indonesia”. This study aims to elaborate on the role of the organization of HMI (Islamic Students Association) and the contribution to the Islamic thinking and preaching in Indonesia. The methods of research used are the historical approach and socio-political study. The study results indicate that the role and contribution most significantly of HMI, in the mainstream of Indonesian Islamic movement, is the renewal of Islamic thought which aims to establish new values in Islamic doctrine. HMI is an Islamic students associations oldest and largest in Indonesia, established in 1947, a period of Indonesian revolution. Due to HMI is an organization grow and thrive in the social and political landscape of Indonesia, so the HMI is an organization that is different from those in other Islamic countries in the world. From its experiences and long journey history that full of dynamics, HMI has had the typical patterns of thinking and preaching, that is an attempt to integrate the values of Islam and the Indonesian-ness within a framework of thinking and paradigms, which can be formulated in the vision, mission, and a real program. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Islam has, from its inception, placed a high premium on education and has enjoyed a long and rich intellectual tradition. The important of education is repeatedly emphasized in the Al-Qur’an, whether such knowledge is Islamic or Western education. Meanwhile, many people believed that Islam against Western education, because a significant number of people who are non-literate in Western education bear Muslim names. This paper, therefore, looks at the Islamic concept of education, its aims and objectives, history of Islamic education, and the contributions of early Muslims to the development of education. In Islamic educational theory, knowledge is gained in order to actualize and perfect all dimensions of the human being. From an Islamic perspective, the highest and most useful model of perfection is the Prophet Muhammad SAW (peace be upon him). In this context, its ultimate goal in education is the abode of permanence and all education points to the permanent world of eternity. The paper also traces the advent of Christianity/Western education that was dangerous for the Islamic education. Historically speaking, the West has borrowed a great deal of intellectual property from Arabs and Muslims in general. It also showed that the main purpose behind establishing Western Missionary schools was to plant poisonous seeds of polytheism and disbelief in the hearts of the Muslim children and deprive them of Islam, so that they might not remain as Muslims, even though they don’t embrace Christianity. KEY WORD: Islamic Perspective on Education; Western Education; Muslim Contributions to West Civilization; History of Islamic Education. ABSTRAKSI: “Perspektif Islam tentang Pendidikan Barat”. Islam, sedari awal, menempatkan posisi yang tinggi pada pendidikan dan telah menikmati tradisi intelektual yang panjang dan kaya. Pentingnya pendidikan berulang kali ditekankan dalam Al-Quran, apakah pengetahuan tersebut berasal dari pendidikan Islam atau Barat. Sementara itu, banyak orang percaya bahwa Islam bertentangan dengan pendidikan Barat, karena sejumlah besar orang yang tidak terdidik secara Barat menanggung nama Muslim. Makalah ini, dengan demikian, melihat konsep Islam tentang pendidikan, maksud dan tujuannya, sejarah pendidikan Islam, dan kontribusi Muslim awal untuk pengembangan pendidikan. Dalam teori pendidikan Islam, pengetahuan yang diperoleh dalam rangka aktualisasi diri dan menyempurnakan semua dimensi kehidupan manusia. Dari perspektif Islam pula, model tertinggi dan paling berguna dalam kesempurnaan hidup adalah Nabi Muhammad SAW (Salallahu Alaihi Wassalam). Dalam konteks ini, tujuan utama dalam pendidikan adalah tempat tinggal permanen dan semua titik tuju pendidikan adalah dunia kehidupan yang abadi. Makalah ini juga menjejaki kedatangan agama Kristen/pendidikan Barat yang berbahaya bagi pendidikan Islam. Secara historis berbicara, Barat telah meminjam banyak dari kekayaan intelektual dari Arab dan umat Islam pada umumnya.
