Abstract

Risk is the one thing that the financial system anticipates more than any other issue. In 2001, a failure in bank risk management occurred at Bank Imar in Turkey, which led to losses that reached around $7.2 billion due to shareholder corruption and coordinated criminality (Mukminin, 2018). The research objective is to investigate the extent to which inflation and business risk are related in Islamic banks operating in the 26 countries covered in the study. Based on the findings of this study, it can be concluded that the inflation proxy does not, in any meaningful sense, have a constructive effect on inflation. That is to say, the business risk in Islamic banks will not be affected in any way by any changes that take place in inflation, regardless of whether those changes result in a rise in value or a loss in value. The use of variable proxies will likely result in some limitations being imposed on this study, which will, in turn, have an effect on the conclusions of the research. In following research, macroeconomic indicators like gross domestic product (GDP) and exchange rates could potentially serve as test subjects for examination.

The population of this research is transportation sub-sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2012-2018. The research method in this study is a causal-comparative. Hypothesis testing using moderate regression. Based on the sampling technique purposive sampling researcher used 25 with amounts of 175 data. The results of this study show that the Capital Structure has a significant effect on profitability while on Liquidity, as moderation variables have no significant effect on the relationship of capital structure to profitability, which means Liquidity weakens in moderating the relationship of capital structure to Profitability.

Abstract

This study aims to fill some fundamental research gaps by examining a model of the chain effect of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) on a firm’s ability to survive during a pandemic. With the help of research assistants, the team collected data from five districts in the Lombok island, Indonesia. Data were collected from purposively selected small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that were established before the pandemic and were able to get through it. The results show that EO does not directly strengthen knowledge assets (KAs). However, in difficult situations, EO becomes the foundation for redirecting and redesigning internal human resource practices (IHRPs) and relational capability (RC) to strengthen KAs and ensure firm survival. In addition, EO prevents firms from failing by being proactive and innovative risk takers in reformulating and energizing internal practices and capabilities to strengthen KAs and survival.

Abstract

Customer-oriented boundary-spanning behaviour (COBSB) reflects employee’s behaviour to connect the organization's services with customers. It plays an important role in determining service quality, in which most of the industry depends on the success of this aspect. This study aims to investigate the factors that influence COBSB, considering the role of proactive personality, role stress, and creativity. There were 160 hotel employees in Surakarta, who participated in the survey by using a purposive sampling, while SEM-PLS was conducted to analyse data. The results showed that proactive personality has a positive effect on employee creativity, which in turn influences COBSB in the dimensions of external representation and internal influence. Furthermore, internal influence has a positive effect on service delivery. In addition, internal influence also mediates the effect of employee creativity on service delivery. The findings also showed the negative effect of role stress in the dimensions of role conflict on employee creativity.

Abstract

This study attempts to measure the effect of Islamic corporate governance (ICG) and Islamic social responsibility (ISC) on firm value and to analyse the moderation role of profitability. Data from 12 Islamic commercial banks registered in Indonesia were taken from 2017 to 2021 and analyzed using a panel data regression approach with the GLS approach and model robustness testing using the robust least squares analysis method. The results of this study show a positive effect of ICG on firm value and a negative effect of ISC on firm value. The moderation results show that the interaction between profitability and ICG further strengthens the ICG effect on firm value. The results also reveal a negative effect of profitability on the effect of ISC on firm value. This paper discusses the implications of this research for the existing literature, practitioners, and policymakers.

Abstract

We make comparison between 6 models including (1) Altman's (1968) z-score; (2) Model 1: z-score model with adjusted coefficients; (3) Model 2: z-score model with modified variables; (4) Model 3: dynamic logic model; (5) Merton distance to default (DD) model (Bharath & Shumway, 2008) and (6) back-propagation network model (Lippman, 1987). We assess the relative information content of these models regarding their bankruptcy prediction capability. Our tests show that dynamic logic model and DD model both provide significantly more information than the others while DD model has the highest prediction accuracy in the out of sample test. It is also worth noticing that altering coefficients and adjusting variables of the original z-score model could not significantly improve the predictive power of z-score model regarding companies in the industrial industry in the UK.

Abstract

This study is aimed to get empirical evidence about the indications of behavior of follower investor in the formation of stock's prices in the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) when the event market crash occured. As well as aiming to analyze whether the behavior of follower investor can be called irrational behavior by looking at the difference in behavior of follower investor on each sector in IDX. This study uses secondary data in the form of stock's closing price and Indonesia Composite Index (IHSG) companies listed on the BEI Stock Exchange during 2010-2013 by accessing the website www.idx.co.id, www.finance.yahoo.com, and www.ksei.co.id. Total populations are 507 companies, while the total samples are 350 companies. The analysis technique used is Cross-sectional Absolute Deviation (CSAD) to detect the behavior of follower investor in the formation of stock price and One Way ANOVA test with Post Hoc Test and Least Significant Difference (LSD) to analyze the irrationallity in follower investor's behavior. The analysis showed that there were indications follower investor's behavior in the stock's price formation and proved that behavior of follower investor is an irrational behavior.

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to test the convergence of income per capita in APT countries through three models: absolute convergence, conditional convergence and sigma convergence. Regression analysis of panel data from 13 APT countries during the period of 2001-2014 is used to analysed to study problem. In absolute convergence model, the growth of real GDP per capita and initial real GDP are used as the variables, meanwhile, 8 variables such as the growth of real GPD per capita, initial real GDP per capita, labor force ratio, value added in agricultural sector, value added in industrial sector, terms of trade, foreign direct investment and internet users ratio are analyzed in conditional convergence model. According to the Solow model, the economies of the countries will converge in which the growth of income per capita of developing countries will be higher than those of developed countries. The economies will be convergent if the countries tend to move to a similar steady state resulting in smaller gap between the countries. Based on the results of absolute convergence and conditional convergence models, APT countries is converging with the rate of 2% and 2.2%. This is consistent with the results of sigma convergence model that shows a declining trend in the dispersion of real GDP per capita in APT regions. The growth of real GDP per capita is influenced by initial GDP per capita, labor force ratio, value added in agricultural sector, value added in industrial sector, terms of trade, foreign direct investment and internet users ratio. Developed countries such as Singapore, Brunei Darussalam and South Korea experience the impact of high real GDP per capita growth. On the contrary, Indonesia, Laos, Vietnam and The Phillipines undergo the impact of low GDP per capita growth.
