Abstract

Alat peraga dan Media pembelajaran kimia memiliki peran dan fungsi yang strategis dalam pencapaian tujuan pembelajaran. Penggunaan alat peraga dan media pembelajaran yang bervariasi, akan meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa. Kesulitan dalam memahami ilmu kimia disebabkan kebanyakan konsep-konsep dalam ilmu kimia maupun materi kimia secara keseluruhan merupakan konsep atau materi yang bersifat abstrak dan kompleks, maka guru harus membantu siswa untuk memvisualisasikan konsep yang abstrak tersebut menjadi sesuatu yang nyata dan mudah dipahami siswa, karena pada dasarnya siswa itu belajar dari sesuatu yang konkret, bahkan tidak hanya siswa, orang dewasa pun dalam waktu tertentu membutuhkan visualisasi untuk memahami konsep-konsep yang abstrak. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan adalah menggunakan alat peraga dan media dalam pembelajaran kimia untuk menanamkan konsep agar mudah dimengerti oleh para siswa.

Abstract

Iklan merupakan suatu proses komunikasi yang bertujuan membujuk orang untuk mengambil tindakan yang menguntungkan bagi pihak pembuat iklan. Iklan biasanya disampaikan dalam bentuk media, seperti televisi, radio, maupun dalam bentuk poster.Penelitian ini mengangkat masalah, (1) teks iklan rokok apa sajakah yang memiliki makna kontekstual, (2) makna apa sajakah yang terkandung dalam teks iklan rokok tersebut, (3) bagaimanakah pengaruhnya terhadap masyarakat dari tayangan iklan tersebut.Tujuan yang ingin dicapai dalam penelitian ini: (1) menemukan teks iklan rokok yang memiliki makna kontekstual, (2) menjelaskan makna yang terkandung dalam teks iklan rokok, (3) mendeskripsikan pengaruh terhadap masyarakat dari tayangan iklan rokok tersebut.Pendekatan yang dilakukan lebih mengacu pada makna kontekstual dalam semantik menurut Firth. Menurut pandangan ini, bahwa tiap tutur harus di kaji dalam konteks situasinya. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualtitatif yang berisi pemaparan secara padat.Melalui penelitian ini ditemukan hal-hal dengan rumusan masalah, pertama, berdasarkan 20 data iklan rokok yang di peroleh, semuanya memiliki makna kontekstual. Kedua, makna kontekstual yang terkandung dalam iklan teks rokok pada intinya sama, yaitu memperkenalkan produk dan mempengaruhi penonton untuk mengonsumsinya. Ketiga, tayangan ikla rokok di televisi, tidak berpengaruh bagi konsumen rokok untuk berhenti atau mengkonsumsinya.Keunikan bahasa iklan rokok dalam setiap slogannya memberikan daya tarik tersendiri bagi para penggunaan rokok ataupun konsumen, sehingga mereka seolah berlomba-lomba menghisapnya, mulai dari kalangan muda sampai tua, baik laki-laki ataupun perempuan. Jika ini dibiarkan, generasi bangsa ini sebagai generasi penerus rokok. Oleh karena itu, perlu adanya himbauan dari pemerintah tentang bahaya merokok atau adanya kesadaran dari setp individu.

Abstract

Piaget's theory of cognitive development is a comprehensive theory about the nature and development of human intelligence first developed by Jean Piaget. It is primarily known as a developmental stage theory, but in fact, it deals with the nature of knowledge itself and how humans come gradually to acquire it, construct it, and use it. Moreover, Piaget claims the idea that cognitive development is at the centre of human organism and language is contingent on cognitive development. Below, there is first a short description of Piaget's views about the nature of intelligence and then a description of the stages through which it develops until maturity.This paper presented student’s way of thinking in mathematics learning. Jean Piaget’s theory brought here as the main concept applied on children thinking process in mathematics. Through observation, some fact emerges in every stage of development process. Those display on “Cant and But Can’t” Table.

Abstract

One of the issues that relates to Indonesian international students’ perceptions about the quality of higher education is with regards to the difficulties and problems they face while studying in an Australian university. A survey was conducted with 78 First Year to Fourth Year Indonesian international undergraduate students undergoing a range of programs and courses at a university in Australia to determine their perspective of quality in higher education. Further interviews were carried out with nine Indonesian international students to gain insights into their difficulties and learning experiences. Based on these interviews, the three main difficulties highlighted by Indonesianinternational students are: different learning styles, cultural barriers and language problems. This paper seeks to highlight the initial problems faced by Indonesian international students in terms of learning styles and how they strive to overcome these difficulties through discussions and practice. These findings present implications for the use of appropriate teaching strategies with Indonesian international students.

Abstract

This research is about the ability of Students in Using EnglishConjunction. The aim of this study is to measure the ability of second year students ofSenior high school in using English conjunctions. The samples of this research were57 second semester students of senior high school. The determination of the sampleswas done randomly. In collecting the data, they were given a set of test inunderstanding the usage of conjunction. The number of items are 40, they weredivided into two parts, the first part (completed the paragraph in using coordinatingand subordinating conjunction) and the second part (complete the sentence in usingcoordinating and subordinating conjunction). In processing data the writer used thestatistical procedure such as, the range score, the interval width, the interval class, thefrequency distribution, and arithmetic mean ( X ). From the data analysis the meanscore of second semester students of senior high school is 60,15. It is considered thecriteria of value in this research is not enough. It is recommended to the researchwhich relates to the ability of second semester students of senior high school in usingconjunctions or other the same level can be continued by other researchers so that theunbreakable problems can be solved in the future.

Abstract

Memory obviously plays an important role in knowledge retention. In particular, when learning mathematics students claim that much of what is taught in classrooms is soon forgotten and learning mathematics is difficult or not interesting. Neuroscience, through its study on long term memory, has tried to identify why these phenomena occur. Then some possible solutions are suggested. Understanding the processes of memory storage including acquisition, consolidation, recoding, storing and retrieval helps teachers to efficiently plan for effective learning activities. Therefore, this paper outlines the potential implication of long term memory to mathematics learning as well as suggests some learning strategies that might solve students‟ and teachers‟ problem in learning mathematics.

Abstract

Teaching supervision is one of factors influencing the development of teacher’s competence. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected through observation, interview and documentation. The subject of this research were the supervisors, principal, vice principal of curriculum affairs, math teachers, and chief of MGMP. The results of this research showed that (1) annual supervision program was compiled both for regency and municipality level by several supervisors employed by the coordinator of supervisor based on his authority that it then became a reference for supervisors in the area to compile semester program. (2) Techniques of supervision of education conducted by supervisors were class visit, class observation, orientation meeting, teacher meeting and sharing knowledge. The supervision conducted periodically based on supervision program. (3) The strategies used by supervisors in running their duties were collecting sample at each school, forming team teaching, and delegating vice principal and chief of MGMP. (4) The supporting factors were teachers’ willingness to be supervised and principal’s enthusiasm in supervising. On the other hand, the inhibiting factors were elderly supervisors recruited nearly retired, the amount of supervisors and teachers were disproportionately so that the supervision towards teachers were not balanced and there was no distribution of supervisors based on their background study.

Abstract

This essay discusses the traditional approach in Indonesian education from different angle; cause and effect perspective. A traditional teaching approach employs a didactic flow of knowledge from the teacher, as a sage, to the student as a receptacle (Richmond, 2007) which more emphasizes the mastery of concept, with less stress on skills improvement. The common system of traditional education is teacher centred where the teacher focuses on delivering information about some contents (Liang, 2004). Teacher-centred class instruction and rote learning are deeply embedded; this type of instruction has become a part in the Indonesian school culture and unofficial standard of practice for years (USAID 2008; Bjork 2005). Shallow level of meaning found in school science (Aikenhead 2000). There are several explanations related to these problem; the institutional culture, the Indonesian school cultures; standardized and highly centralized examinations, and less emphasize on improving their teaching ability. Due to these causes, this paper proposes 4 solutions as follows; first, detaching the teachers from their dependence on and deference to the policies and regulations of the central government’s education authorities, Second, finding other methods of teacher recruitment, third, empowering the teachers: enriching pedagogical knowledge-lesson study/action research, and prosperity, last, providing a fair system which is emphasized on teaching Standard for standardized test.

Abstract

Proses pembelajaran pendidikan jasmani di Kabupaten Aceh Selatan pada umumnya berjalan belum efektif. Hal ini disebabkan oleh keberadaan sarana dan prasarana olahraga pendidikan di Kabupaten Aceh Selatan sebagai faktor pendukung dalam proses pembelajaran jasmani masih belum memadai. Sesuai dengan permasalahan tersebut, penulis tertarik melakukan penelitian dengan judul pendataan, pemetaan sarana dan prasarana olahraga pendidikan di Kabupaten Aceh Selatan dari tahun 2002 sampai dengan 2012. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keberadaan sarana dan prasarana olahraga pendidikan di Kabupaten Aceh Selatan dari tahun 2002 sampai dengan 2012 dan mengetahui peningkatan sarana dan prasarana olahraga pendidikan di Kabupaten Aceh Selatan dari tahun 2002 sampai dengan 2012 dengan jumlah sampel 18 sekolah. Adapun metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dan jenis penelitian survei. Sedangkan instrumen penelitian yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah menggunakan format observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Data dianalisis dengan mentabulasi hasil pengamatan ke dalam tabel dan grafik untuk mengetahui keberadaan sarana dan prasarana olahraga pendidikan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa secara umum keberadaan sarana dan prasarana olahraga pendidikan masih belum memadai. Keberadaan sarana dan prasarana untuk materi senam, atletik, sepak bola, bola voli, bola basket, bulu tangkis dan tenis meja berada pada kategori kurang lengkap. Sedangkan untuk materi tenis lapangan, bela diri, dan renang berada pada kategori tidak lengkap. Adapun pemetaan keberadaan sarana dan prasarana olahraga pendidikan di Kabupaten Aceh Selatan masih belum merata untuk setiap sekolah penelitian.

Abstract

This study examiners error in a corpus 25 essay written by 25 participant. The participants are the third semester of who are studying at the English department; 4 male and 21 females. The have experienced approximately for one semester in subject writing. All participants are come form non-English education background and hardly communicate in English out the college. The instruments used for this study was participants’ written essay. All of error in the essays were identified and classified into various categorizations. The result of the study show that six common errors committed by the participants were singular/plural form, verb tense, word choice, preposition, subject-verb agreement and word order. These aspects of writing in English pose the most difficult problems to participants. This study has shed light on the manner in which students internalize the rules of the target language, which is English. Such an insight into language learning problems is useful to teachers because it provides information on common trouble-spots in language learning which can be used in the preparation of effective teaching materials.
