Abstract

Ecofeminism is an interrelated and holistic theory and practice. Ecology, in conjunction with discourses on women's freedom and radical democracy, constitutes one of the primary pillars of democratic confederalism, which is the development of the political paradigm in Indonesia. Ecofeminism also manifests in several areas, including the women's resistance movement against gold mining by PT Tambang Mas Sangihe (TMS) in Sangihe. This study aims to describe the representation of the women's movement in the documentary film "Sangihe Melawan," which was uploaded to the YouTube channel of Watchdoc Documentary on July 1, 2022. This research employs semiotics techniques. The data analysis unit in this study includes images or visuals, audio (dialogue and narration), acting, setting, type of shot, and angle, which collectively demonstrate the role of women in the concept of Social Ecofeminism. The results indicate that women are represented as the most disadvantaged parties in the exploitation of natural resources. The women's movement to protect the environment is also depicted as an effortful endeavor. The women's resistance to the expansion of gold mining in Sangihe was manifested in various actions, including awareness-raising activities, a women's rally, legal action against PT TMS through the Manado and Jakarta Administrative Courts, and other legal avenues.

Abstract

Globalization offers various features such as the presence of Global Travel which continues to overgrow. However, Indonesia is still ranked at the bottom of tourist visits that compared to neighboring countries, therefore the Government plans to develop Destinasi Super Prioritas (DSP) or Super Priority Destinations. Labuan Bajo is the only one of the 5 areas that will be created. So, the author is interested in seeing the impact of the development of the DSP area in Labuan Bajo on fulfilling the human rights of the local community. In order to provide the recommendations for solutions to these issues the research method is descriptive qualitative by using the secondary data. To answer the problem formulation, the author uses the thinking framework of Peter M Burns on Tourism and Politics Global Frameworks and Local Realities, and Alyson Brisk on the Introduction: Transnational Threats and Opportunities. The results show that in the process of the Labuan Bajo DSP's social presence, various kinds of human rights violations occurred, starting from the loss of the right to work and obtain food security, the right to private property, the right to do the same before the law, the right to shelter and the environment. These conditions occur because there is a friendship relationship between the Government and Investors through regulatory support to State apparatus so that local communities is becoming the victims of this asymmetric relationship. This condition received resistance from the civil society alliances by using networks, solidarity, and social media.

Abstract

This study examines the ongoing violations of political rights experienced by Hispanic Americans, despite the United States established democratic principles. It examines the impact of globalization on human rights issues, leading to the "othering" of Hispanic Americans by the United States government. The study uses Herbert Blumer's Symbolic Interactionism as a theoretical framework to analyze how meanings and interpretations influence the experiences and treatment of this excluded group. A thematic review of the current literature, utilizing a qualitative research methodology, uncovers a complex interaction of elements that contribute to these violations. The study examines the conflict of national interests, changing ethical norms, and the symbolic creation of "otherness" that rationalizes discriminatory behaviors. Research indicates that globalization, whilst fostering connection, may also intensify pre-existing inequities and generate novel forms of marginalization. The study indicates that the United States, as a global power, confronts a significant issue in aligning its democratic principles with its treatment of Hispanic Americans. It underscores the imperative for the US to reinforce its dedication to human rights and harmonize its policies with the tenets of inclusivity and equality for all citizens. This necessitates a thorough analysis of the symbolic mechanisms that sustain prejudice and a fresh commitment to protecting human rights in a worldwide context.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (CHLB) provides information, education, and empowerment to encourage individuals, families, groups, and communities to adopt healthier lifestyles and minimize disease risk. Despite its crucial role in health, CHLB implementation in Indonesia is still low, with various studies highlighting inadequate CHLB practices among students and households. We conducted a bibliometric analysis to explore research results and identify trends and social complexity of CHLB. This study reports a bibliometric analysis through a systematic search of academic literature applying the CHLB theme. Bibliographic data were retrieved from the Scopus database on June 18, 2024, and then analyzed using the Bibliometrix R package. The 131 publications focused on journal articles, conference papers, and reviews in English, which were then collected and analyzed based on publication trends, influential articles, country contributions, and theme development. The authors also interpreted and synthesized the results of the bibliometric description of CHLB using Ulrich Beck's risk society theory. Articles on CHLB are published in 11 influential journals, with Indonesian authors contributing the most articles with 447 frequencies, followed by the USA (14 frequencies), China (11 frequencies), and Netherlands (11 frequencies). As part of the CHLB research hotspots, ten research areas and nine motor themes were presented, such as COVID-19, alternative medicine, pandemic, knowledge, diabetes mellitus, attitude and practice, education, empowerment, and environmental health. Using Ulrich Beck's risk society theory, this study also highlights how uncertainty and social complexity affect the implementation of CHLB in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article presents a systematic literature review on the role of patronage in shaping Indonesia's political landscape. Using a systematic literature review approach, the article analyzes 30 selected articles out of a total of 250 articles that underwent identification and screening processes. The main focus of this review is to explore how political patronage influences power structures, political participation, and the dynamics of relations between political elites and the public in Indonesia.  Drawing on Michel Foucault's theory of power and knowledge, the article explores how patronage not only functions as a tool for distributing resources but also plays a crucial role in the construction and dissemination of political knowledge. According to Foucault, power is not just imposed from above but operates through networks of relationships, shaping the way knowledge is produced and legitimized. Patronage systems produce specific truths that validate the power structures and create a discourse that legitimizes inequality and exclusion. The findings suggest that patronage remains an essential tool in political mobilization, influencing both the distribution of resources and the strengthening of social and political networks. However, the complexity of patronage also poses challenges for the development of an inclusive and transparent democracy. This article provides a deeper understanding of the influence of patronage in Indonesian politics, offering insights for the development of more just and sustainable political policies, while reflecting on Foucault’s ideas about how knowledge and power intertwine to shape political realities.
