Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of internal conflict experienced by the main character, Insyira (Sisi), in Aqila Nila’s novel Ummi untuk Gamal and their relevance to character education values. Employing a literary psychology approach based on Kurt Lewin’s conflict theory, this descriptive qualitative research utilizes reading and note-taking techniques for data collection. The findings reveal three types of internal conflict: approach-approach (positive–positive), which is the most dominant; avoidance-avoidance (negative–negative); and approach-avoidance (positive–negative). These conflicts reflect the protagonist’s struggle between personal desires, moral obligations, and decision-making ambivalence. Furthermore, the results indicate that these internal dynamics are closely linked to character education values, including religiosity, responsibility, caring, hard work, and independence. It is concluded that internal conflict not only drives the plot but also serves as a vehicle for character building. This novel is highly relevant as a reflective and educative medium in literary learning, particularly for the younger generation.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the syntactic complexity of Indonesian language in a 9-year-old child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at SLB Bhakti Luhur, Jakarta. Using a qualitative-exploratory case study approach combined with Mean Length of Utterance (MLU) analysis, the study analyzed 84 spontaneous utterances from a subject identified by initials HS. Data were collected through participant observation, audio recordings, and interviews with support teachers. Findings indicate a dominance of declarative (50%) and imperative (19%) sentences, with an average MLU value of 4.62, reflecting a syntactic developmental level equivalent to children aged 4–6 years. Despite a gap between chronological age and syntactic age, the subject demonstrates functional basic verbal communication. This study provides empirical insights into the dynamics of syntactic acquisition in autistic children and lays an initial foundation for targeted linguistic interventions in inclusive educational settings in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Discovery Learning approach in teaching short story review text writing to fifth-grade students at SD Negeri Mojo Kalitidu Bojonegoro. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method with fifth-grade students as the research subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation during the learning process. The results showed that the Discovery Learning approach was effective in improving students’ short story review writing skills. This was reflected in students’ active participation in listening to explanations, taking important notes, understanding the elements of review texts, as well as engaging in discussions and collaborating with peers. In addition, students were able to organize ideas, construct arguments, and write review texts using appropriate language within the allocated time. The effectiveness of the learning process was also indicated by the students’ average activity score of 85, categorized as very good, and an increase in learning performance by 63.16%. Therefore, the Discovery Learning approach is considered effective for teaching short story review text writing in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to: (a) describe the design of developing narrative text teaching materials with ecoliteracy content based on a class blog for seventh-grade students; (b) describe the validity of the developed product; and (c) describe user responses to the materials. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the Borg and Gall and Dick and Carey models, with a mixed-methods approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Expert validation involved material and media experts. The results showed that the design included a teaching module and a class blog. Material expert validation reached 89.29% (highly feasible), and media expert validation reached 97.50% (highly feasible), with an overall average of 93.40% (highly feasible). Student responses to the needs analysis indicated 81.91%, and teacher responses indicated 100%. Therefore, the developed narrative text teaching materials with ecoliteracy content based on a class blog are highly feasible for use in Indonesian language learning in seventh grade.
