Abstract

Mangrove crabs (Scylla serrata) and (Scylla tranqueberica) are species that live in mangrove ecosystems. Mangrove ecosystems have a very important role for mangrove crabs, namely as habitat, foraging and spawning grounds. Mangrove crabs can grow and develop in mangrove forests because there are small organisms that become their food. Mangrove crab cultivation is the enlargement of mangrove crabs that are not ready for production using the container method. The container method is the maintenance and enlargement of mangrove crabs using multilevel containers, one of which is to make it easy to control the growth of mangrove crabs this study aims to analyze the growth rate of mangrove crabs (Scylla serrata) in the apartment caught by Selindung River fishermen for eight weeks. Parameters observed included absolute weight growth, absolute carapace width, and water quality such as salinity, temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen levels. The results showed that the absolute weight growth of male and female crabs was significantly different, with male crabs having an average carapace width of 104 mm and female crabs 54 mm. This growth is influenced by the moulting process, where the crabs replace the old carapace with a new, larger one. The study found that feeding frequency greatly influenced the growth of carapace weight and width. Specific Growth Rate (SGR) of male crabs was highest at 1.14% per day, while females reached 0.75% per day. Male crabs showed a faster growth rate than females, due to higher metabolic activity. Mangrove crab survival rate reached 100%, indicating the apartment method was effective in supporting growth and survival. During the study, water quality remained in optimal condition with salinity of 27-29‰, temperature of 30-33℃, pH 6.1-6.8, and DO 5.5-6.3 mg/L. In conclusion, the apartment system for mangrove crab aquaculture is effective in improving the growth and survival of mangrove crabs in Selindung River.

Abstract

Open access to marine resources causes people to fish without control and ignore conservation and trade status. Theseactivities can cause population decline and population can lead to overfishing.. This is due to the lack of availability ofinformation and scientific data to fishermen regarding the conservation status of fish species. Therefore, this study aimsto identify and determine the conservation status of fish species caught using fixed gillnet fishing gear in PPN Sungailiat.Data collection was carried out in March-May 2024 at the PPN Sungailiat, Bangka Regency. This study uses survey andobservation methods with qualitative descriptive data analysis. The results showed that there were 13 families identified. The main catch in this study contained 12 species and by-catch there were 7 species. The conservation status of fishspecies caught on gillnet fishing gear remains at the Sungailiat VAT according to national regulations based on the Decreeof the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries No. 01 of 2021 with unprotected status. Meanwhile, the conservationstatus of fish species based on IUCN has 6 categories, including 3 species of fish classified as Not Evaluated (NE), 5species classified as Least Concern (LC), 2 species classified as Near Threatened (NT), 2 species classified as Vulnerable(VU), 5 species classified as Endangered (EN) and 2 other species classified as Critically Endangered (CR). Meanwhile, the trade status based on CITES has 2 species of fish classified in Appendix II, namely Rhynchobatus australiae (palmray) and Rhina ancylostomus (barong shark). Based on the results of conservation and trade status, several managementapproaches need to be taken towards fisheries resources so that their populations are maintained.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between mangrove density and gastropod abundance in Tuing Beach, Bangka Regency. Mangroves have an important role in coastal ecosystems, providing habitat and food sources for a variety of organisms, including gastropods. Gastropods are a group of mollusks that are commonly found in mangrove ecosystems and play a role in the food chain as decomposers. This study was conducted by survey method at three different research stations, where data on mangrove density and gastropod abundance were collected through the square transect method. The study showed that there was a positive relationship between mangrove density and gastropod abundance at all research stations. Station 2 showed the highest mangrove density with a value of 1.733 ind/ha, while the highest abundance of gastropods was also found at Station 2 with a value of 20,3 ind/m². A simple linear regression analysis showed that mangrove density contributed significantly to the variation in gastropod abundance, with the value of the determination coefficient (R²) varying between 0.732 to 0.904 at all three stations. In addition, environmental parameters such as temperature, pH, salinity, and dissolved oxygen are also measured to understand the environmental conditions that affect the distribution of gastropods. The results of this study can provide important information for sustainable management of mangrove ecosystems, especially in maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem stability in Tuing Beach.
