Abstract

Activated charcoal was prepared from coffee grounds using carbonization at 500⁰C as a physical activation and also by chemical activation using sulphuric acid. Abstract

Phytochemical test and antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of Mahoni seed (Swietenia mahagoni (L.) Jacq) have been done. The extraction of Mahoni seed samples was carried out by the maceration method using ethanol as a solvent. An antibacterial activity test was carried out using the agar diffusion method. Phytochemical tests results show that ethanol extract of Mahoni seeds has secondary metabolites of alkaloid, triterpenoid, and phenolic compounds. The antibacterial activity test results obtained MIC values for Streptococcus mutans bacteria were 1.25-2.5% and for Salmonella typhi bacteria at 0.625-1.25%. Ethanol extract of Mahoni seeds has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Adsorpsi fenol menggunakan adsorben komposit Fe3O4-Arang aktif ampas kopi telah dilakukan. Adsorben komposit Fe3O4-Arang aktif ampas kopi disintesis dari FeSO4.7H2O dan FeCl3.6H2O dengan perbandingan 3:2 kemudian dikomposit dengan arang aktif ampas kopi. Adsorben komposit Fe3O4-Arang aktif ampas kopi dikarakterisasi dengan Fourier Transform Infared (FTIR) dan Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) serta dilakukan uji adsorpsi terhadap fenol. Hasil karakterisasi dengan Fourier Transform Infared (FTIR), muncul peak 1604,77 cm-1 menunjukkan adanya serapan C=O yang menyatakan bahwa ampas kopi telah membentuk zat karbon. Selain itu adsorben komposit Fe3O4-arang aktif ampas kopi muncul peak pada panjang gelombang 509,21 cm-1 yang merupakan gugus Fe-O menunjukkan bahwa nanopartikel Fe3O4 telah berhasil tercangkok pada struktur arang aktif. Kondisi optimum adsorpsi fenol menggunakan adsorben komposit Fe3O4-arang aktif ampas kopi adalah pada waktu kontak 30 menit dan pH 5. Kata kunci: Adsorpsi, Fenol, Magnetit, Arang Aktif, Ampas Kopi

Abstract

Penelitian yang telah dilakukan mengenai pemanfaatan arang aktif dari limbah serbuk gergaji kayu bangkirai sebagai adsorben zat warna Rhodamin B. Arang aktif dikarakterisasi menggunakan Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Didapatkan hasil karakterisasi SEM sebelum dikontakkan dengan Rhodamin B pada perbesaran 2.000 kali dan 5.000 kali bentuk morfologi permukaan seragam dan merata sedangkan sesudah dikontakkan dengan Rhodamin B pada perbesaran 2.000 kali dan 5.000 kali bentuk morfologi permukaan tidak seragam dan merata. Rhodamin B diadsorpsi oleh arang aktif dan diukur dengan menggunakan Spektrofotometer UV-Vis pada panjang gelombang maksimum 554 nm. Didapatkan hasil kondisi optimum pada proses adsorpsi Rhodamin B sebanyak 25 mL adalah pada massa adsorben 0,2 gram, konsentrasi Rhodamin B 3 ppm dan waktu adsorpsi 45 menit dengan % teradsorpsi sebesar 96,37%.

Abstract

Extraction of ketapang leaf (Terminalia catappa Linn) was carried out by maceration method using 96% ethanol. Phytochemical test results showed that the ketapang leaf extract contained tannin compounds. Stability test of ketapang leaf extract was carried out on the influence of temperature 40, 60 and 800C, the effect of pH (3, 4 and 5) and the effect of storage duration 1, 3 and 5 days using wavelength UV. The results of this study indicate that the ketapang leaf dye is stable at pH 3-4, stable decrease by heating at temperature 40-800C and stable at storage for 1-3 days.

Abstract

The research about in vitro vasodilatation response of methanol extract of Macaranga lamellata whitmore leaves was carried out. This research was conducted to determine the vasodilatation response of methanol extract of Macaranga lamellata Whitmore leaves on changes in aortic tone of Wistar rat. The methods used include the in vitro methods by using separated aortic organ of Wistar rat. Methanol extract were given cumulatively in bath organs. Positive control is used methacholine and negative control is used DMSO solvent. T-test statistical was done to determine the significant differences between groups. Phytochemical test results showed that total methanol extract contained alkaloids, polyphenol, steroids, flavonoids and saponins. Percentage change in aortic tone by using methanol extract concentration of 0.3; 1 and 3 mg/mL respectively were -7.422%; -9.641% and -10.593%. Abstract

An infectious disease caused by bacteria is a disease that often occurs in tropical areas. The used of plant extract is an interesting object of study to overcome these infectious diseases and because of an increase in bacterial resistance to antibiotics. White turmeric rhizome widely used by Indonesia society as an herb which has been used for the treatment of diarrhea and abdominal pain. This study aims to determine the content of secondary metabolities and inhibitory of white turmeric rhizome (Kaempferia rotunda L.) against Streptococcus sobrinus KCCM 11898 and Salmonella typhi ATCC 422 bacteria. The results of phytochemical screening white turmeric rhizome contained compound triterpenoids, steroids, phenolics, and saponins. An antibacterial activity test used agar diffusion method against Streptococcus sobrinus KCCM 11898 and Salmonella typhi ATCC 422 bacteria. Antibacterial activity white turmeric rhizome (Kaempferia rotunda L.) with concentration 1, 2, 4, 8% have an inhibition zone diameter against Streptococcus sobrinus KCCM 11898 bacteria is 10.33, 10.67, 17 and 25.17 mm respectively with the antibacterial strength is strong, meanwhile in Salmonella typhi ATCC 422 bacteria have an inhibition zone diameter was 8, 8.3, 11.83 and 13 mm respectively with the antibacterial strength is intermediate. Abstract

Antibacterial activity test of methanol extract of Mahoni (Swietenia mahagoni (L) jacq) leaves was carried out. Extraction Mahogany leaf samples was carried out by maceretion method using methanol as a solvent. Antibacterial activity test was carried out using agar diffusion method, by spreading bacteria to agar media, then the extract was placed using disc paper. Phytochemical test result showed that the methanol extract of Mahoni leaf contained secondary metabolites of flavonoid, triterpenoid, steroid, saponin dan phenolic compounds. The antibacterial activity test result obtained Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) values for Streptococcus mutans bacteria were 0-0,625% and for Salmonella typhi bacteria 0-0,625%.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Test of activated carbon adsorption ability of banana stem waste (Musa paradisiaca L) on toluen has been carried out. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) was used to characterize activated carbon to show the morphological differences in activated carbon after activation and before toluen adsorption using a UV spectrophotometer with variations in the time of adsorption and concentration. The optimum toluen adsorption time obtained on the adsorbent weight of 0.4 gram, the concentration of toluene 40 ppm was 45 minutes, then the absorbed toluene concentration was 61,75%. the adsorption capacity was 1,5438 mg/L and the optimum toluene concentration at 1 grams, 60 minutes adsorption time was 40 ppm. The concentration of toluene absorbed was 73,875%. Then the adsorption capacity was 0.07388 mg/L.

Abstract

The study about the comparison of analytical performance of the determination of Pb metal ions using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer in various laboratories in samarinda has been conducted. The validated methods are linearity, detection limits, quantity and precision limits. The results showed, a standardized regression test obtained by laboratory A, a value of R2 ≥ 0.4103, laboratory B a value of R2 ≥ 0.983 and laboratory C, a value of R2 ≥ 0.000. The detection limit found at laboratory A was 0.6728 µg/L, laboratory B was 0.1989 µg/L and laboratory C was 0.0001 µg/L. The quantization limit obtained by laboratory A was 0.6817 µg/L, laboratory B was 0.6063 µg/L and laboratory C was 0.0001 µg/L. The precision test of laboratory A was 7.2208, laboratory B was 5.4557 and laboratory C was 0,000. The result of determining Pb of gas station soil samples in laboratory A is 0.737 µg/L and laboratory B is 0.391 µg/L, so that means they have exceeded the quality standards set by the Indonesian National Standard (INS).
