Abstract

Background: Resistance is defined as growth inhibition of bacteria with antibiotics. Staphylococcus aureus bacteria is known to be resistant to gentamicin and methicillin. Staphylococcus aureus can cause various infection of the skin, injuries, and system. Methods: This research is true-experimental with Posttest-Only Control Group Design and using Kirby-Bauer method by means of five concentration (20, 40, 60, 80, dan 100%). The negative control uses sterile distilled water, and the positive control uses Vancomycin 30 µg. Result: This research showed the mean of inhibition zone diameter of each concentration consecutively 16 mm, 20 mm, 22 mm, 23 mm, and 23 mm. Oneway ANOVA statistic analysis showed that the value of p is 0,000 that mean there is an influence of encok roots extract to Staphylococcus aureus growth. Conclusion: There is an influence of encok roots extract to Staphylococcus aureus growth. Seen from its ability to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract

The kidneys are responsible for filtering waste from the body such as urea, uric acid, and creatinine. When these organs stop functioning properly, waste builds up to high levels in the blood. In patients with kidney failure are usually equipped with a blood chemistry that urea and serum creatinine as an amplifier diagnosis of the patient's illness. CKD is the progressive loss of function of kidney and patient requires a long treatment in the form of renal replacement therapy. Hemodialysis is one of the renal replacement therapy, during waste products of the body are removed. Patients with kidney failure are associated with increased levels of some biochemical parameters. In several studies, urea and creatinine serum of CKD patients pre-dialysis revealed abnormal levels and indicated hyperuremic. Therefore, this study was aimed to analyzed urea and creatinine serum in CKD patient undergoing hemodialysis in Sanjiwani Hospital. A description study, used purposive sampling methods, involving 30 patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis. Blood samples were analyzed for urea and creatinin level. Data are presented as table. Results of this study showed that all samples (100%) had serum urea and creatinine levels high or exceed the normal limits. While of urea/creatinine levels as many as 20 patients (66,7%) had low ratio, 7 patients (23,3%) had a normal ratio, and 3 patients (10%) have a high ratio, so that it can be concluded that all patients had hyperuremic. Abstract

Abstract Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases with characteristic hyperglycemia that happen by abnormal secretions of insulin, insulin action, or both. The condition of insulin resistance in DM type 2 cause abnormal lipid metabolism that indicated by increase or decrease levels of lipid fraction in plasma, include increase levels of Very Low Density Lipoprotein (VLDL) or triglycerides, decrease levels of High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), and formed small dense Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL). The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the fasting blood sugar levels with HDL cholesterol levels in patients with DM type 2. The method use an analytical study with cross sectional design. Sampling examined as many as 35 samples by purposive sampling. The relationship between fasting blood sugar levels with HDL cholesterol levels is analyzed by Pearson Product Moment Correlation test. Abstract

Abstract Backgrounds: Workers have a risk of getting a disease caused by their job. Groups of workers while do their jobs are always in direct contact with soil as a medium of transmission of the worm eggs like roof tile maker. Based on data from health worm infection at Puskesmas I Kediri in the last three years there are three persons from Pejaten village who check worm infection and two of them showed positive result that they were infected by intestinal worm eggs. Objective: This study aims to find out the existence of the worm eggs Intestinal Nematode on the roof tile maker’s fingernails in Pejaten village, Kediri, Tabanan. Methods: This research did on January until June 2016. This research use descriptive study. Sample are taken with purposive sampling technique and researcher take 26 samples. The examination is searching for worm eggs at 26 fingernails specimens had done by floating methods using a solution of 2% eosin. Results: From this results, as much as 50% samples contained worm eggs. The infection rate of each worm eggs type is Ascaris lumbricoides 53,8%, Hookworm 23,1%, mix of Ascaris lumbricoides and Hookworm 15,4% and 7,7% of the sample identified containing worm eggs from the mix of Ascaris lumbricoides and Trichuris trichiura. Based on the characteristics of the respondents, high presence of worm eggs found in the range age 26-45 years 34,6%, male gender 30,8% and respondents who don’t attend school 23,1%. Based on the personal hygiene, high presence of worm eggs found in respondents who have bad habits of cutting nails 46,2%, bad handwashing habits 42,3%, respondents who don’t use hand gloves 50% and bad footwear usage habits 34,6%. Recommended: Suggestion for a roof tile maker are to maintain the cleanliness of nails, washing hands after contact with soil, and also using hand gloves and footwear while they working. Abstract

Abstract Background: Snakefruit’s bark that only so far as waste, can be processed into a functional beverage is good for health. Snakefruit’s bark contains phenolic compounds which are natural antioxidants in fruits. Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the total phenol levels and sensory value of stew salak bali sibetan karangasem’s bark in various formulations as functional beverage. Methods: Analysis of total used spectrophotometric method with Folin-Ciocalteu phenol reagent and gallic acid standard. It also performed the water content analysis used thermogravimetry method. Result: Salak Bali Sibetan’s bark have average water content 24.1872±0.036%wb. The results of total phenol analysis showed that 2, 10, 20, 30, 40 gram of Salak Bali’s bark with 200 ml water are: 10,84±0,587; 13,79±0,756; 12,19±0,205; 12,02±0,268; 10,57±0,389 mg/L GAE respectirely. Conclusions: The highest total phenol content is (10g/200ml) formulation, and also supported by a sensory test showed that a majority of panelist also prefer that formulation because has good colour, flavor and smell. Abstract

Nowadays, rapid determination of several viruses which caused pathogen diseases is really important. Most of rapid detection of human pathogen viruses was developed by using biosensor technology. Biosensor technology offers several advantages, such as simple, efficient, low cost, fast response, easy to operate, and reliable. Viral detection by using biosensor can also avoid the delay of diagnosis, so the doctor can determine the type of drugs quickly and also can decide the type of patient care, properly. Most of biosensor for virus detection was exploited by using electrochemical principle, with amperometric and volumetric transducer. Almost of virus biosensor used immobilized antibody onto electrode surface as a biorecognition element. Some of viruses that could be detected by using electrochemical biosensor are HCV, HBV, HIV and influenza virus. However, quality control of the biosensor result is important, so the biosensor could be selected as an alternative method for on-site determination, especially in clinical determination. Abstract

Background Banjar Ambengan is one banjar contained in Sayan village, where people still have the habit of gathering accompanied by excessive alcohol consumption. Consumption of alcohol has a direct relationship with the death cases caused by liver sirosis. The liver mechanism disturbance leads to the case of swelling as the result of the rise of serum glutamate piruvat transminase (SPGT) enzyme. Objective This study is aimed at investigating the SPGT level of the serum of the alcoholic. The study uses the non-probability sampling technique called snowball sampling. The samples of this study are thirty alcoholic men aging upper eighteen. The respondents will be interviewed to get the deeper information. The research reveals that 6 respondents have high SPGT level (20%) and 24 of them have normal SPGT level (80%). Result of the examination serum SGPT levels alcoholics in the study ranged from 11 to 79.20 U / L. The measurement results SGPT levels are high on the research respondents based on the characteristics of age at most 33.3%, based on the frequency of consumption of at most 33.3%, based on the period of consumption at most 50%, based on the volume of consumption at most 66.7%, based on the type of liquor consumed at most 66.7%, and based on the type of work at most 50%. Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Menopause women are one of the groups that have a high risk of osteoporosis, because at that time the amount of estrogen is reduced so that the absorption of calcium from the digestive tract will be reduced about 20-25%. This is the reason why the level of calcium decreasing in blood. According to the initial observation at Banjar Binoh Kaja by researcher, from 10 menopause women, four of them are at risk of osteoporosis. Methode: This study is a descriptive study which describes the blood calcium levels in menopause women at Banjar Binoh Kaja, Ubung Kaja Village, North Denpasar District, by doing measurement on their blood calcium concentration with O – Cresolphthalein Complexon (OCPC) method. The 34 respondents taken from total population of menopause women in age range 50-65 years. Respondent was selected using purposive sampling with criteria: menopause women in age range 50-65 years and not undergoing hormone replacement therapy. .Result: The results showed that the average concentration of blood calcium is 8,83 mg/dL which 11.76% respondents had low levels of blood calcium and 88.24% respondents had normal blood calcium levels. 33,33% respondents in age range 62 – 65 years and 66,67% respondents in 16 – 20 years periods of menopause has decrement of blood calcium levels. Coclusion: The decrement of blood calcium levels mostly held in respondents in age range 62 – 65 years and respondents with 16-20 years periods of menopause. Keywords: blood calcium, menopause

Abstract

BackgroundSnakefruit more technically known as ‘Salak’ (Salacca sp) is native fruit of Indonesia regarded as exotic fruit that can consumed not only its flesh fruit but also its skin in the form of extract as it has an efficacy. Extract of snakefruit rind can be proceed into a healthy beverages that contains phenolic compounds which known as natural antioxidants. ObjectiveThis study aimed to describe the content of nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, and antioxidants in the extract of snakefruit rind products. This data will be useful as information material to local food industryas well as further research on the processed products for health. Methods This research is a descriptive study that examines the content of carbohydrates, protein, and antioxidants in the extract of snakefruit rind products. Samples were rind of snakefruit with various concentration masses, in water ratio 1%, 5%, 10%, and non compositions. ResultCarbohydrate, protein, antioxidant capacity and IC50 respectively for each composition, are (1) the composition of the 1%: -0.04%; 0.21%; 20.70 ppm, 426.58 ppm; (2) the composition of 5%: 0.82%; 0.20%; 73.40 ppm; 151.41 ppm; (3) the composition of 10%: 0.93%; 0.20%; 110.29 ppm; 87.11 ppm; (4) non composition: 28.14%; 44.90%; 215.10 ppm; 56.10 ppm, and non composition: 1.00%; 0.00%; 25.73 ppm; 92.18 ppm. The most potential nutrient compound in extract of snakefruit rind is the antioxidant, which produced as beverages like tea product. The composition of 10% is the most active category of antioxidant activity, whereas 5% in medium category, and composition of 1% in weak category. Carbohydrates and proteins compound are gradually lower in each composition, caused by boiling process due to the process of water dilution. ConclusionsThis study revealed that extract of snakefruit rind can produced as healthy beverages (such as tea), as it is a potential wastes treatment for local food products. The extract of snakefruit rind consist of nutrition just like proteins, carbohydrates which are great for health and also contains lots of a powerful antioxidant and works well to prevent cardiovascular disease, strokes, and even cancer, prevent allergies, increase fertility, and boost immunity. Abstract

Virus Zika (ZIKV) adalah flavivirus yang berhubungan dengan dengue, virus demam kuning, virus Japanese encephalitis dan virus west nile. Virus tersebut menyebabkan infeksi melalui gigitan nyamuk yang dikenal sebagai demam zika atau penyakit zika. Virus zika baru-baru ini menarik perhatian dunia pada pertengahan tahun 2016 karena adanya explosive pandemic di berbagai negara, termasuk di Indonesia. Penelitian telah menemukan bukti bahwa Zika dapat berhubungan dengan cacat kelahiran dan kondisi syaraf seperti microcephaly dan sindrom Guillain-Barre pada orang dewasa.
