Abstract

This writing compares elements of deux ex machina in two folklores entitle “Pak Belalang” and “ Rumpelstiltskin.” Thus, the objective of the research is to describe and to analyze the similarities and differences of the elements of deux ex machina used by eastern and western texts. To reach the aim, this analysis uses comparative analysis to compare the two folklores. Related to that, this analysis applies descriptive analysis in which the result of the analysis will be described clearly. From the description, it will show how the eastern and western’s texts use deux ex machina as one of the elements of conflict which varies the text.

Abstract

This writing deals with the relevance of daily life and traditional theatre performance, tonil. In this case, the traditional theatre performance focuses only on the existence and phenomena of Ogam in the life of Bengkalis’ people in which it is related to the people’a theatre performance. Ogam is a simple chat people utter in some conditions. The better the people chat, the more successful those people attract other attention. In certain situation, it is also found that someone doesn’t chat properly and it may cause uncomfortable chat and it may also stop the interesting chat. This ogam is signed by many coffee shops found in Bengkalis in which people usually spend their time practising ogam in those coffee shops. In traditional theatre performance, the actor or actress do not use script, so the skill in Ogam is very useful to improvise.

Abstract

The title of this writing is “The application of Electronic Short Story in TOEFL Learning for Lecturers of University of Lancang Kuning.” The purpose of the writing is to socialize the use of strategy of Electronic Short Story Application, to increase participants’ motivation. To apply the strategy, the method used is describing and practicing. The result shows that lecturers get better motivation and comprehension in learning English for TOEFL preparation using the strategy of Electronic Short Story.

Abstract

Manuscript is a cultural heritage of ancestors in the past. In the manuscripts there are many sources of information and knowledge of the community that were developing at that time. One of which was Malay manuscripts. Currently, the existence of Malay manuscripts is widely spread and recorded in various regions, both inside and outside the country. However, there are still many Malay manuscripts that are still owned by individuals, becoming private collections, such as Malay manuscripts in the Kampar region. These manuscripts are still unrecorded and in vulnerable conditions with damage and even lost or sold. Judging from these realities, actions are needed to save the manuscripts, such as collecting and digitalizating. By so, eventhough saving the manuscripts physically is hard, but we can get the contents of the text. Thus, the research on the physical obejct will be studied using a codicological approach, and the text content will be analyzed philologically.

Abstract

The condition of coastal communities in various regions is generally characterized by the existence of several characteristics, such as poverty, socio-cultural backwardness and low human resources (HR). In this study the coastal community studied is Akit community social capital in Berancah village with high poverty level. This research aims to know the social structure of local community, and social capital in social structure of Akit community so they can overcome Life issues. This research was conducted in Berancah Village of Bantan District of Bengkalis Regency, with the largest population of Akit in Bantan District, Bengkalis Regency. This research is a Quantitative research with simple statistical technique. This type of research is descriptive in the form of studies conducted on the location and certain characteristics found in the field for the reconstruction or getring the right substantive pattern in accordance with the theory used in this study of social capital.
