Abstract

High concentration of ammonia is one of major problem in common carp (Cyprinus carpio) culture. It was caused by high stocking density and excessive feed. Molasses is biologicaly and economicaly considered as one of the safest way to increase the water quality. The aim of the research were to understand to effect of different molasses concentration which was applied in probiotic on the water quality, growth and survival rate of cammon carp. The research used five treatments namely (A) 0 g/Lmolasses, (B) 2,4 g/Lmolasses, (C) 4,8 g/Lmolasses, (D) 7,2g/Lmolasses, (E) 9,6 g/L molasses. Data of temperature, pH, DO and daily growth rate were analyzed by using Kruskal-Wallis nonparametric test, while the ammonia and survival rate were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that (1) molasses treatment on the application of probiotics provides influence on the afternoon temperature, pH and dissolved oxygen (DO) in the morning and afternoon, concentration of ammonia and survival rate (2) based on the stability of temperature, pH and DO in the morning and the afternoon, concentration of ammonia, growth and survival rate of carp higher than the other. The concentration of 2,4 g/L molasses was considered as the best treatment.

Abstract

The aims of this research were to determine the effect of Azolla sp. to water quality and the growth of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) juvenile (total length 5-7 cm) cultured with closed water system. The study used five treatments of density of Azolla sp. (0g/m2, 62.5 g/m2, 125 g/m2, 187.5 g/m2, and 250g/m2). The observations towards water quality and growth parameter were pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, absolute weight growth, absolute growth rate, and survival rate. The results showed that the addition of Azolla sp. provided a significantly different affect to pH, absolute growth weight, daily growth rate, and survival. Survival rate and pH showed that density of 0g/m2 of Azolla sp. significantly different densities to other treatments. Absolute growth weight and daily growth rate of African catfish showed that density of 0g/m2of Azolla sp. significantly different to densities of 62.5g/m2, 125 g/m2, 187.5g/m2, except for the density 250g/m2. Based on temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, survival rate and daily growth rate of African catfish and Azolla sp. occured at density of 125g/m2 of Azolla sp.

Abstract

The purpose of this experiment was to determine the IMNV incidence rate in white shrimp at ponds in Lampung Bay in 2010 and known the pattern of incidence rate from 2007 to 2010. The experiment was conducted on October through December 2010 in ​​culture ponds in the Bay of Lampung and sample examination carried out in Main Center of Mariculture Development of Lampung. The research method was conducted includes, examination of samples by polymerase chain reaction technique and secondary data collection through interviews and data collection, followed by descriptive analysis of data. Prevalence assumption used in this study was 10%. The results showed that there was 7 locations were positive IMNV from 12 locations examination in white shrimp ponds in 2010. The value of incidence was 7.14%, 100%, and 58.33% in 2008, 2009, and 2010, respectively.

Abstract

Guppy (Poecilia reticulata) is one of undifferentiated sex species that can direct to produce male during embryogenesis and larvae phase. Temperature is relevant environment factors that affect to gonad differentiation in fish. Propolis is a material from honeybees that has potential to be used in sex reversal to replaced 17α-metiltestosteron. Propolis contains chrysin and galangin with the function inhibited testosteron to estradiol conversion. The aim of this research is to determine the best treatment among different ambient temperature and propolis on different dose. The research was conducted in factorial randomize design, using twelve treatments. The treatments were given to pregnant guppy brood stock for 24 hours that were immersed in interaction of ambient temperature 28; 30 and 32oC with propolis on different dose 0; 25; 75 and 100 µl/l. The result showed that interaction between temperature and propolis showed significant difference in producing male guppy (P<0.05) with high percentage of males equal to  68.72 ± 1.91% in the treatments interaction between temperature 32oC and 25µl/l propolis dose, that has given different significantly with others. The treatments were not stimulate the intersex stocks (P>0.05).

Abstract

The research about application of bovine testicular extract on female baung catfish (Mystus nemurus) was done for determining an optimum dosage and application periode of bovine testicular extract. The aim of this research is to increase testosteron and estradiol 17β concentration on blood as gonad developing hormone on female baung catfish broodstock. This  research used randomize blocked design with five treatments and three groups. Dosages of bovine testicular extract which used as treatment were 0; 0,75; 1,5; 2,5 and 4,5 mg/kg feed. The periodes of bovine testicular extract applied were 10; 20 and 30 days. This research used female baung catfish with average body weight of 400-500 g. This research done on July-September 2011 at Balai Benih Ikan Sentral (BBIS) Purbolinggo, East Lampung. Testosterone and estradiol 17β concentration was determined by Radioimmunoassay (RIA) technique at Indonesian Research Institute for Animal Production Ciawi, West Java. The result showed that the application of bovine testicular extract could increase testosteron and estradiol 17β concentration in blood plasma. Dosage 2.5 mg/kg feed could increase testosterone concentration on 278.91 ± 66.76 pg/ml and estradiol 17β concentration on 606.25 ± 187.97 pg/ml. The application periode of Bovine Testicular Extract for 30 days could  increase testosteron and estradiol 17β concentration on 254.38 ± 93.84 pg/ml and 514.55 ± 137.22 pg/ml.

Abstract

Koi as ornamental fish excellence in body shapes with interesting colour. Chromatopore cells took responsibility to colour of fish. Enhancing of colour possible with added of carotenoid source like shrimp head meal in feed. This study purposes to assessed effects of shrimp head meal to enhance colour of koi in different percentages of inclusion (0, 10, 12 and 14 %). Koi in juvenile size, 3 month old, 28 g of body weight and 12 cm of total length used for this study. Five trained persons by used Toca Colour Finder (TCF) justified  scores of colour patterns during 60 days of culture. Results showed 10 % inclusion of shrimp head meal optimum in carotenoid those effect to enhances of colour. Positive corelation showed between amount of chromatopore cells and percentage of inclusion of shrimp head meal.

Abstract

Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) is one of the consumption fish which has high economic value. However, the efforts to increase carp production obstracted by diseases such as furunculosis by A. salmonicida. So that we have to consider the disease prevention method which safer such as probiotic. The aims of this research were to know effect of the time administrations of probiotic on non-specific immune responses and to know the best time administration of probiotic on non-specific immune responses of common carp injected by A. salmonicida. The research was conducted from August to October 2011. The research used three treatments (without administration of probiotic, administration of probiotic once every day, and administration of probiotic once every five days) with four replications. Data of total leukocyte and percentage of differential leukocyte were analyzed by using ANOVA, while RPS and water qualities were analyzed descriptively. The results showed the time administrations of probiotic showed a real impact on improving non-specific immune responses characterized by increased total leukocyte in carp, administration of probiotic once every five days resulted better non-specific immune responses, which had been seen from the highest total leukocyte and the highest RPS after being injected by A. salmonicida.

Abstract

Infectious diseases lead to reducing aquaculture productivity. The using of chemical antibiotic was avoided since their negative effect was known, i.e. created resistant bacteria, contaminating environment and fish meat. The purpose of the research is to find the active compound from Rhizophora mucronata leaf and their activity to inhibit pathogenic bacteria Aeromonas salmonicida and Vibrio harveyi. Extraction procedure conducted by using maceration technique to extract type of mangrove leaf (tip, main leaf, dried leaf), and organic solvent (hexan, ethylacetate, methanol). The result of this research showed that active compound from Rhizopra mucronata give negative response inhibiting Aeromonas salmonicida while postif to Vibrio harveyi . The tip of Rhizophora muncronata leaf is more effective to inhibit pathogenic bacteria, and ethylacetate is the best solvent to extract Rhizophora muncronata leaf. Lethal concentration (LC-50) from Rhizopra macronata is 200 ppm.

Abstract

Common carp (Cyprinus carpio) is one of freshwater fish that growing very rapidly as a commercial fish. One of the factors that influence growth of common carp is water quality. Zeolite klinoptilolit were applied as filter in aquaculture water quality management. Zeolite was used to improve water quality, especially the consentration of ammonia. Zeolite works exploit the ability ion exchange of Na+ and K+, which is a cation that can be exchange serves to neutralize poisons in metabolism. The aim of this study are to know additional amount of zeolite that give the best result for decrease ammonia consentration at common carp culture. The experimental by used completely randomized design with 4 treatments.. The treatments were with addition zeolite of treatment B = 150 g; C= 300 g; D = 600 g, and treatment A without the zeolite addition. The results showed that the addition zeolite of 600 grams as a chemical water filter at common carp culture gave the best result for decrease ammonia concentration had a different effect on the concentration of ammonia was maintained for 60 days (P<0.05). However, the addition of zeolite as a water filter did not give different effects on absolute growth, daily growth rate, and survival of common carp (P>0,05).
