Abstract

An increase in the population has led to an increase in the need for food, land for cultivation, residential land, and land for industry. One effort to accommodate the interests of the community towards the needs of agricultural land is by implementing an agroforestry system. Agroforestry systems are sustainable agricultural systems because of the combination of plants with various types and have several canopy strata that are more environmentally friendly. However, there are still many agroforestry practices that still have low productivity. So that farmers are not interested in developing them. Agroforestry has some superior characteristics compared to the traditional farming system (monoculture) in economic, social, and environmental aspects. Agroforestry can succeed if it can increase community income while maintaining land productivity. The success of agroforestry is influenced by: a) selection of the right type of plant, b) maintenance of plants, c) marketing and processing of products d) strong farmer institutions.

Abstract

Forestry partnership is a form of social forestry management that provides space for larger communities to be involved in forest management. This study aims to determine the condition of coffee farming institutions in the social forestry program. This research was conducted in May 2021 at the Forest Village Community Institute (LMDH) Sarimukti, Sukamanah Village, Sindang Kasih District, Ciamis Regency. This LMDH was chosen because it has obtained a Social Forestry permit for the Recognition of Forestry Partnership Protection (KULIN-KK) scheme. The results showed that institutionally, LMDH Sarimukti has a good condition because it already has statutes (AD) and bylaws (ART) and the community gets many benefits from its existence so that it is expected to encourage community participation in achieving the goals of social forestry management in the KULIN KK scheme. Socially and economically, the community has started to feel the benefits of the KULIN KK scheme of social forestry management through the production of coffee and other crops. Permission to access arable land through the SK KULIN KK provides peace and comfort for the community to be involved in forest management.

Abstract

The use of bamboo for construction and various products is increasing as part of an environmentally friendly lifestyle. This effort needs to be supported by bamboo cultivation and strong institutions. This study aims to identify and analyze the institutions that play a role in the development of bamboo agroforestry. The research was conducted from 2016 to 2021 in West Java. Data were collected through interviews with actors related to bamboo development, meetings, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), observation and documentation. The data were analyzed and presented descriptively. The results show that the supporting institutions of bamboo development consist of national institutions and local institutions. National institutions include the Ministry of National Development Planning, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Indonesian Institute of Sciences, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Academy of Bambu Nusantara, Research Center for Bamboo Udayana University, and PT Charta Putra Indonesia. Local institutions include farmers, farmer groups(Karya Mukti II), woman farmer groups, craftsman group (BASUKA), research team of Research and Development of Agroforestry Technology Institute (BP2TA), extension workers, Sukaharja Village Government, bamboo business actors, Industry and Trade Office of Ciamis District, Industry and Trade Office of West Java Province, Branch Region VII of Forestry Service, ta'lim assemblies, and middleman. Each institution plays a role according to its main duties. The bamboo development program at the national level is synergized by the Ministry of National Development Planning while the program at the local level is synergized by the BP2TA research team in collaboration with the Sukaharja Village government. The institutions synergies allow the development of bamboo to be carried out comprehensively.

Abstract

Java plum or also known as jambolana, jamblang, or duwet has many benefits such as natural dye, a source of natural antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and as a medicine for diabetes. However, the cultivation technique is still not widely known in advance. The size of the plant pot affects the physiological and morphological properties of plants and also affects the mass production of seedlings. The purpose of this study was to determine the size of the polybag as the best seedling container for optimum jamblang’s growth. The study was conducted in a greenhouse using a completely randomized design (CRD). There are four sizes of polybag sizes were 10x15, 12x20, 15x25, and 20x30, each treatment using 50 plants so that a total of 200 seeds were used. Parameters measured were height, diameter, wet weight of roots and wet weight of stems and leaves of Jamblang seedlings. The Anova and DMRT were used for analysis using the SPSS.  The results showed that the polybag size significantly affected the seedlings height, root wet weight and wet weight of stems and leaves of seedlings (33.75 cm, 16.86gr, and 19.91gr respectively). For jamblang seedlings in this study, the polybag size that gave the highest yield was polybag with a size of 20x30.

Abstract

Lahan bekas perkebunan teh biasanya memiliki tanah yang bersifat masam dan miskin hara. Lahan bekas perkebunan teh Desa Cukangkawung berada pada ketinggian dan kemiringan lereng yang relatif curam, serta curah hujan yang cukup tinggi. Oleh karena itu alih penggunaan lahan menjadi hutan rakyat agroforestry merupakan pilihan yang tepat untuk usaha tani yang berkelanjutan. Agroforestri memiliki manfaat yang cukup banyak, antara lain meningkatkan kesuburan tanah, menyediakan jasa lingkungan dan pendapatan bagi masyarakat. Untuk optimalisasi manfaat dan produktivitas lahan, maka perlu dipilih jenis-jenis tanaman yang sesuai dengan karakteristik lahannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesesuaian lahan dan mengetahui jenis-jenis tanaman yang dapat dipilih serta aplikasi pengelolaan lahan yang diperlukan. Metode penelitian dilakukan dengan cara mencocokan karakteristik lahan dan kriteria persyaratan tumbuh tanaman. Karakteristik lahan diketahui dengan pengambilan sampel tanah dan analisis laboratorium. Lahan bekas perkebunan teh yang akan dialih guna menjadi lahan agroforestri memiliki pH tanah masam dan kesuburan tanah rendah. Kesesuaian lahan agroforestri termasuk kategori sesuai marjinal (S3), dengan faktor pembatas pH, unsur P dan K, kemiringan lereng, bahaya erosi, curah hujan dan temperatur. Meski memerlukan aplikasi pengelolaan lahan yang cukup berat untuk mengatasi faktor pembatas, cukup banyak jenis-jenis yang dapat dipilih, yaitu jenis tanaman pangan, sayuran, tanaman obat/rempah, buah-buahan, tanaman perkebunan, dan penguat teras.
