Abstract

The development of digital modules based on interesting generic science skills can be integrated in biology learning. Generic science skills (GSS) are related to skills through application and biological context. The factual and procedural knowledge obtained by students can be explored in the environmental pollution material because of various concepts and solve various real problems. This research is a descriptive study that explains the stages of digital module validation analysis based on generic science skills on environmental pollution for grade 10 high school students. Digital module validation test refers to five aspects such as (1) suitability of material, (2) presentation, (3) language, (4) generic science skills, and (5) visual/appearance. The subjects in the research at the initial review stage were three validators consisting of practitioners who are experts in learning biology and learning media. Based on the results of the study, it is known that the module developed as a whole is very valid in reference to aspects, namely the feasibility of the content aspect, the feasibility of the presentation aspect, the feasibility of the language aspect, the feasibility of the GSS aspect and the appearance, this shows that the digital module produced can be continued at the next stage.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the suitability of "Sigeram" derived from the acronym "sistem gerak manusia” or human movement system to become an android-based interactive learning media for biology subjects. This study uses descriptive research with four stages, namely analysis, design, development, and validation. The data collection technique used a validity questionnaire. The validity test subjects consisted of three practitioners, including a teacher from Senior Hugh School 12 Banjarmasin and two lecturers from the study program of Biology Education, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat. “Sigeram” application consists of some menus, including learning prerequisites, identity, learning implementation components, meeting schedule, concept map, then the material section, summary, glossary, quiz, bibliography, and profile. Additional features in the interactive media are the "Bio Info", "Let's Find Out", "Let's Discuss", "Act Creatively", "Habituation", "Reflection", and "Final Project". Testing the validity of "Sigeram" as an interactive media for learning Biology based on android showed a validity score of 4.29 with a very valid category, so that "Sigeram" can be used as an interactive media for learning biology, especially in human movement system topic.

Abstract

Problem-solving is an essential skill that must be possessed by students, especially in learning biology. The purpose of this research is to determine the profile of students’ problem-solving skills in Senior High School 10 Palembang on environmental pollution material. The research method is descriptive with a qualitative approach. Participants were 30 students of 12th grade Science 3 of Senior High School 10 Palembang in 2022/2023, which selected based on purposive sampling. The instrument consisted of five items with the indicators of problem-solving skills, including identifying problems, reviewing problems, planning solutions, implementing plans that have been made, and evaluating. The data collected for the study also included results from the teacher interview as a supporting instrument. Data analysis was carried out by calculating the average achievement score of students' problem-solving skill indicators in the form of percentages. The results showed that the percentage of students' problem-solving skills was 30.67% in the lack category. The percentage of problem-solving skill indicators is identifying problems by 26.7%, collecting data and planning solutions by 40%, implementing plans made by 33.3%, and evaluating by 13.33%. The ability to solve problems can be improved by innovating teachers in choosing learning strategies such as using approaches, methods, models, and media that can improve problem-solving abilities, especially in learning biology.

Abstract

Teamwork is an important skill to develop through school learning. This ability affects how a learner can learn independently and with a group to obtain academic achievement. This study applies project-based learning on decomposing organic waste in the biology subject to help develop learners' teamwork skills. This study was used by one group pretest-posttest design. The data in this study were collected through the administration of Situational judgment test sheets on pretest and posttest and self-report sheet of teamwork ability. The data were analyzed descriptively quantitatively to produce a better understanding. As a result, the ability to work in teams measured has increased although the increase has not been significant (n Gain = 0.2). The implementation of project-based learning on waste decomposition had an advantageous effect on teamwork ability (d = 0.5). The results in this study indicate that fostering teamwork through Project Based Learning can be optimized in the public product stage. The suggestion for the future research is to conduct pre-treatment to the research participants in the form of introduction to collaborative learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of developing student worksheets on the growth and development of drought-stressed plant material. The subjects of this study were students of 12th grade Science 1 of Senior High School 1 Tapa. The worksheet development used the ADDIE development model. The instruments used were Validation Sheets, Learning Implementation, Student Activities, Student Response Questionnaires, and THB questions. Student worksheet based on drought stressed plant study of growth and development material has met the valid, practical and effective categories. Based on the results obtained from the validation and trial of products on a limited scale, the development of student worksheets on the growth and development of drought-stressed plant material is suitable to be used for learning, as well as practical, and can improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

After over two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, learning policies demands adjustments from teachers and students, especially in practicum and scientific inquiry. To better prepare students for practicum, creating pre-laboratory journals is one approach. This study aimed to assess how pre-laboratory journals impact the development of scientific inquiry skills and socio-emotional growth in high school students. It used a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control groups and selected participants through cluster random sampling. This study involved 70 students of 11th grade students consisting of 35 students of control class and 35 students of experimental class at Senior High School 1 Cisarua, West Bandung. The instrument used include five test that assessed and designed scientific inquiry skills related to the human excretory system, as part of the scientific literacy framework. The results revealed significant differences in the scientific inquiry skills between high school students in the experimental and control classes (p-value 0.00 0.05). The control class showed a moderate average improvement (N-gain of 0.53), while the experimental class exhibited a high average improvement (N-gain of 0.71). the control group was more anxious than the experimental group. Therefore, using pre-lab journals significantly improved both high school students' scientific skills and emotional well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the effect of using teacher feedback on students' concept mastery and self-assessment on the topic of monohybrid and dihybrid crosses. The method used in this research was a quantitative quasi-experiment with Nonequivalent Control Group research design. The participants in this study were among 69 ninth grade students (33 control class students and 36 experimental class students) at one of the public junior high schools in Bandung Regency. This study uses positive written feedback with the types of supporting, direct corrective and guidance on students' essay test answer sheets. To measure students' mastery of concepts, an essay test was used with a total of 10 questions. To measure students' self-assessment, a 1-4 Likert scale questionnaire was used using indicators that were adjusted to the indicators on the essay questions. The results showed that there is a significant difference in students' concept mastery and students' self-assessment ability in the control class and experimental class. As for the N-Gain test, the category of concept mastery improvement in the control class belongs to the low criteria (0.19) and the experimental class belongs to the medium criteria (0.57). Students' self-assessment skills in the control class (60%) and experimental class (70%) are classified in the sufficient and good categories. Students' responses to the teacher’s feedback showed a positive response. Based on this research, the use of teacher feedback on essay tests affects students' concept mastery and self-assessment.
