Abstract

One of Freshwater Biology course problems is that the students were unable to understand the environmental phenomena around them. The aim of this study was to develop issue-based teaching materials in Freshwater Biology course to improve the students’ understanding about the environmental phenomena through their learning outcomes. This research and development used three phases of the 4D model developed by Thiagarajan, namely define, design, and development. The development results were validated by content and media experts. The design used for pilot test, which was conducted among 20 students, was one group pretest-posttest design; meanwhile the data analysis technique used was independent t-test. It can be concluded that the teaching materials developed was valid with the average validation score as high as 79.83%. In addition, there was significant improvement (sig. 0.000) of student learning outcomes after attending the course which implementing the issue-based teaching materials developed. Thus, the implementation of issue-based teaching materials is recommended in Freshwater Biology course due to its potential in improving students’ learning outcomes.

Abstract

Test organism which is used for bioassay must fulfill some criteria such as: high sensitifity, widely available, wide distribution, biology background, successfully maintained in laboratory, and known history of culture in laboratory. This research has been done to study regeneration (vegetative) process of Planaria under laboratory condition. This is studied because of limited number of planaria population in clean freshwater. In order to study regeneration process, combination of two treatments (water conductivity and division-cutting type) were done to obtain optimum culture of Planaria. Four water conductivity (100, 200, 300 and 400 μS/cm) and four division-cutting types (whole longitudinal, half longitudinal, transversal above pharynx and transversal mid-pharinx) were used. Each individual of Planaria was exposed with those treatments for 10 days (October, 2002). Initial and completed growth were observed. The result showed that, regeneration process of Planaria took 3-6 days to get full growth after transversal cutting (mid-pharynx). Whole summary revelead that Planaria is easy to maintain in laboratory. Therefore, Planaria may be used as an alternative bioindicator in evaluating water pollution.

Abstract

This study aims to develop e-modules based on the local Cirebon environment related to environmental changes that occur in the Cirebon region as a source of high school student learning to foster the eco-literacy of the student. The method in this research used to research and development (R&D) with the ADDIE model (analysis, design, development or production, implementation or delivery and evaluations). Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and documentation. The development of e-modules was validated aspects of eligibility by material experts, technology experts, and users as measured by the validation sheet as well as student responses regarding the emodules as measured by a questionnaire. Meanwhile, the readability test given to students is carried out to ensure the quality of the e-modules as measured by the cloze test. In addition, the eco-literacy of the student was measured by an attitude questionnaire to find out how students' awareness and concern for the surrounding environment. Data were analyzed by qualitative methods. The results showed: 1) the feasibility of the e-module based on the validation of the material experts obtained 95.68% with a very good category, the validation of technology experts with a percentage of 72% categorized as good, and the validation of the teacher, as a user, showed a percentage of 75% with a good category, 2) the results of the cloze test analysis show that e-module has a high level of readability with a percentage of 92.46%, 3) student responses regarding e-modules obtained a percentage of 78.8% with a good category, 4) eco-literacy of students are shown by the results of questionnaire obtained an index of 4.04 with a high category. Products have been revised based on suggestions and corrections from validators and limited trial results. E-module based on the Cirebon local environment in fostering eco-literacy of students can be implemented in classroom learning

Abstract

Lima jenis minuman yang terpilih yaitu panther, meico, teh zeggar, degan, dan teh bukit sudah dilakukan uji hayati. Salah satu untuk pengujian kualitas minuman tersebut, yaitu uji hayati dengan menggunakan neonate Daphnia magna  (berumur <24 jam) dan mencit jantan (Mus musculus). Pengujian menggunakan D. magna, dilakukan dalam dua tahap yaitu Range Finding test (RFT) dan Range Definitive Test (RDT), sementara uji hayati mencit jantan galur Deutschland Denken Yoken (DDY) dilakukan dengan Rancangan Acak Lengkap, dua faktorial dengan 18 kelompok perlakuan. Pengambilan sampel darah mencit jantan diambil pada bagian ekor hewan dan diperiksa dengan menggunakan metode strip dan glucometer autocheck. Hasil RFT menunjukan 50% kematian neonate D. magna terdapat pada pengenceran 10-100%. Hasil analisis menunjukkan nilai LC50-24h untuk minuman Panther (P), Meico (M), Teh Bukit (B), Teh Zegar (Z) dan Degan (D). berturut-turut adalah 39,99; 51,5; 40,9; 40,93; dan 49,74%. Hasil uji hayati menggunakan mencit jantan, terjadi kenaikan berat badan yang signifikan pada saat diberi Z, D dan B. Kenaikan kadar gula darah mencit jantan signifikan pada waktu perlakuan selama dua dan tiga minggu dengan P, M, B, Z dan D. Hal ini disebabkan kadar gula minuman dapat meningkatkan kadar gula darah. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa kelima sampel minuman tersebut bersifat toksik, karena nilai LC50 kurang dari 50% (hasil uji D. magna) dan dapat meningkatkan kadar gula darah pada mencit jantan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi tiga jenis tanaman air yaitu Zantedeschia aethiopica, Pontederia lanceolata, Echinodorus palaefolius sebagai fitoakumulator logam kromium. Sumber logam kromium yang digunakan berasal dari limbah cair tekstil yang telah diolah namun masih memiliki kadar krom total yang masih cukup tinggi. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah microcosm constructed wetlands dengan menggunakan pasir dan kerikil sebagai substrat tumbuh. Penelitian dilakukan selama 60 hari dan parameter yang di ukur meliputi akumulasi logam kromium pada tanaman, dan respon morfologis dari tanaman selama dipaparkan dengan limbah yang mengandung logam kromium meliputi nekrosis, klorosis, berat basah dan jumlah helaian daun. Dari hasil yang didapatkan terlihat bahwa penurunan kadar logam kromium dari limbah cair mencapai 99%. Peningkatan jumlah konsentrasi logam kromium tertinggi terdapat pada tanaman Echinodorus palaefolius, peningkatan konsentrasi sebesar 6,12 ppm, sedangkan tanaman Pontederia lanceolata sebesar 2,45, dan pada tanaman zanthedeschia aethiopica sebesar 1,38 ppm. Pada akhir masa penelitian didapatkan data bahwa tanaman echinodorus palaefolius memiliki daya regenerasi yang lebih besar dibanding kedua tanaman uji lainnya, hal ini ditunjukan dengan persentase nekrosis sebesar 1,33% dan klorosis sebesar 0% dan selisih jumlah daun sebesar 0,44, sedangkan tanaman zanthedeschia aethiopica memiliki persentase klorosis 3,6% dan nekrosis 18,55% dan selisih jumlah daun -1,0, dan tanaman pontederia lanceolata 18,22% dan 4,11% memiliki selisih jumlah daun -0,44. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa ketiga tanaman dapat digunakan sebagai akumulator logam kromium, namun tanaman Echinodorus palaefolius memiliki potensi paling tinggi dalam akumulasi logam kromium dari limbah cair tekstil.

Abstract

Acehnese local wisdom-based contextual approach has never been used in learning. Incorporating Acehnese local wisdom into the study of conservation biology will greatly assist the process of raising awareness among students and the community about the importance of nature conservation, being able to clarify customary rules and rules about human relations with the natural environment. Therefore, it is very necessary to the development of conservation biology lecture program through Acehnese local wisdom-based contextual approach to improve environmental literacy and conservation measures. This study aimed to collect information relating to the development of conservation biology lecture program through Acehnese local wisdom-based contextual approach through lectures that examine issues of forest conservation biology and terrestrial environments Aceh. This research applies qualitative research design (Qualitative Research), conducted the analysis of the development related to environmental issues and Acehnese local wisdom. From the analysis of the results showed that the development of conservation biology lecture program through Acehnese local wisdom-based contextual approach has the characteristics (lectures studying the problems of forest conservation biology and terrestrial environments Aceh; learning Acehnese local wisdom-based contextual approach effective, integrated in the lectures and field activities to clarify the learning in the classroom; emphasis on the ability of the knowledge and skills that students care about the forest and terrestrial environment, develop environmental literacy and conservation measures are real), component (using a variety of learning methods and media), structure (meetings, concepts and sub concepts, learning process, learning objectives, learning strategies, billing tasks, and extra activities), and evaluation (procedures and evaluation tools: evaluation process using lectures observation, evaluation of learning outcomes using test (environmental literacy), and conservation measures using guidelines observation conservation measures). Abstrak Pendekatan kontekstual berbasis kearifan lokal Aceh belum pernah digunakan dalam pembelajaran. Memasukkan kearifan lokal Aceh ke dalam pembelajaran biologi konservasi akan sangat membantu proses penyadartahuan mahasiswa dan masyarakat tentang arti penting pelestarian alam, dapat memperjelas aturan-aturan adat dan kaidah-kaidah tentang hubungan manusia dengan alam lingkungannya. Dengan demikian sangat diperlukan adanya pengembangan program perkuliahan biologi konservasi dengan pendekatan kontekstual berbasis kearifan lokal Aceh untuk meningkatkan literasi lingkungan dan tindakan konservasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengumpulkan informasi yang berkaitan dengan pengembangan program perkuliahan biologi konservasi dengan pendekatan kontekstual berbasis kearifan lokal Aceh melalui kegiatan perkuliahan yang mengkaji permasalahan biologi konservasi hutan dan lingkungan terestrial Aceh. Penelitian ini menerapkan desain penelitian kualitatif (Qualitative Research), dilakukan analisis pengembangan yang berhubungan dengan isu-isu lingkungan dan kearifan lokal Aceh. Dari analisis pengembangan ini diperoleh hasil bahwa program perkuliahan biologi konservasi dengan pendekatan kontekstual berbasis kearifan lokal Aceh mempunyai karakteristik (kegiatan perkuliahan mengkaji permasalahan biologi konservasi hutan dan lingkungan terestrial Aceh; pembelajaran dengan pendekatan kontekstual berbasis kearifan lokal Aceh yang efektif, terintegrasi dalam perkuliahan dan kegiatan lapangan yang dapat memperjelas pembelajaran di kelas; menekankan pada kemampuan pengetahuan dan keterampilan agar mahasiswa peduli terhadap hutan dan lingkungan terestrial; mengembangkan literasi lingkungan dan tindakan konservasi secara nyata), komponen (menggunakan metode dan media pembelajaran yang bervariasi), struktur (pertemuan, konsep dan sub konsep, proses pembelajaran, tujuan pembelajaran, strategi pembelajaran, tagihan tugas, dan kegiatan ekstra), dan evaluasi (prosedur dan alat evaluasi: evaluasi proses menggunakan pedoman observasi kegiatan perkuliahan, evaluasi hasil belajar menggunakan tes (literasi lingkungan), dan tindakan konservasi menggunakan pedoman observasi tindakan konservasi). Abstract

Planaria sp. in Bukit Tunggul (Lembang) is rare within 10 years. This animal is sensitive to polluted water. Beside that, the number of this animal is decreasing due to alteration of landuse and climate change. This animal plays an important role as a bioindicator for clean water and as a media in learning of biology in high school as well as in university. Due to these need, study on ecology and distribution of Planaria sp. is done in Panaruban water fall, Subang. The sampling location is limited only at Cimuja, Karembong, Sawer and Goa Badak, which have an environment characteristics variation. Observations are done including water quality chemically, land use, and climatic factors within 3 times monthly. Planaria sp. counting is done stratified random sampling using a 1x1 m quadran. The number and biomass of Planaria sp. related to climatic factors are discussed. In general, it can be concluded that, abiotic environmental factors contributes to the abundance and biomass of Planaria sp.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate students' sustainability awareness and engagement and to analyze students' perception of the ESD Project in Biology lessons at an Indonesian Senior High School. This study uses a Mixed Method research design combining quantitative and qualitative research methods. The participants were Year X students of a Senior High School in Jakarta in the 2022/2023 academic year. Survey, journal of reflection, semi-structured interview, observations, and documentation, were used to collect data. Finding: This research found that ESD Project in biology lessons develops Indonesian students' sustainability awareness and engagement. Students change their mindset from being unconscious to become more concerned with environmental issues. Several evidence of the consciousness in this research includes applying sustainability in the daily practice, doing real action by creating campaign videos. The awareness is also shown by their beliefs, values, and judgments in their reflective journal, including developing environmental literacy, changing into pro-environment, and positive attitude to protect the environment. Secondly, PjBL learning model in Biology lessons is meaningful for students by stimulating their cognitive and behavioral engagement. The most popular activity of the ESD Project is creating the design of clothes from waste. The implementation of ESD Projects has some challenges such as time consuming, and low self-regulation among Indonesian high school students. Implications for research, practice, and policy are discussed.

Abstract

Indonesia is the second largest contributor of plastic waste in the world. In Indonesia, plastic waste is the second most common type after food waste. The increase in plastic waste is likely due to people's increasingly practical lifestyles and consumption patterns. Plastic and most other inorganic waste cannot be completely broken down by nature or decomposing microorganisms. The most significant contributors to waste in Indonesia are households, business centers, and traditional markets. This shows that households are important in discussing waste, both as producers and as agents of change in the future. One effort to reduce existing plastic waste is by making eco-bricks. Ecobricks are Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) bottles filled with inorganic waste such as plastic, foam, packaging, and plastic. The benefits of eco-bricks are very diverse, such as reducing the amount of plastic waste, replacing bricks or building blocks, making various types of furniture, improving the community's economy, beautifying the environment, and using it in open spaces such as creating parks or buildings in the long term.
